NFL marches forward in the quest to make sure 100% of the players, coaches, and officials are black.

"Black officials have been increasing in number over the years. This season there were 26 on the 17 crews, a single-season high."Edited by: nevada

One of the Redskins secondary (can't remember who it was) spit on him last year during a game.

It will be interesting to see him call the game then. So much for "loose hipped" refs, cause he sure ain't one.

This is a good place to post an article about the disparity of the numbers, andtypes of penalties called among crews. Very interesting to realize some crews are tough in certain areas, and verylenient in others when it comes to infractions. It would behoove coaches to study the predilections of each crew, to determine what they can or cannot get away with on the field, and alter their game plans accordingly.

(snip)
Ron Winter led the crew that called the most penalties. Controversial Walt Colemanled the crew that called the fewest. The difference was huge:Winter's crew tossed 83 more flagsthan Coleman's crew over the course of a 15-game officiating season, resulting in nearly 600 more penalty yards.

Winter's crew called228penalties; 205 were acceptedfor 1,666 yards

Coleman'screw called 145 penalties; 132 wereacceptedfor 1,074 yards
That's a truly remarkable gap between two officiating crews basically watching the same football games.

Winter's crew called an average of15.2 penalties; an average of13.7 were accepted for 111.1 yards.

Coleman's crew called an average of9.7 penalties; an average of 8.8 were acceptedfor 71.6 yards.
Even assuming that the calls go both ways, that disparity is hard to explain.

Like the other posters, I have no problem with this guy. He can do the job. Unfortunately, he will be the first in a long line of black referees. Is there really any doubt that in 10 years there won't be plenty of crap black referees?

The response, of course, will be that since there are plenty of crap white referees, what is the big deal if black refs "ghetto up" the game? A good point perhaps, but I will have trouble watching NFL football in 2018 when the coaches, refs, and analysts are as black as the players.

Then the caste disciples will tell us that see, blacks are better at absolutely everything involved in a football game, and it was only white racists that held them back from dominating every facet of the sport.

by 2018 Vince Young will probably be a referee. The only thing that guy can throw is a yellow flag aimed in the general vicinity of the astro-turf.

The bigger issue is how black players treat the refs (whether the refs are white or black)? How many times have you seen a black player touch a ref? I mean, some of these guys pat the refs on the butt. It's the typical lack of respect that blacks have for those in authority positions.

NFL officials need to stand up for their refs more. Could you imagine if Major League Baseball umpires were treated in this fashion? Laying your hands on an umpire is grounds for an instant, lengthy suspension.
