Alexeev returns this Saturday in Germany. His opponent will be Kendrick Releford 20-12-2(10). The durable Releford has been the distance with many top fighters including some heavyweights and has only been stopped once in his twelve losses.

Russian cruiserweight contender Alexander Alekseev (18-1, 16 KOs) came back to his punching best with a third-round stoppage of American Kendrick Releford (20-13-2, 10 KOs). WBO #5 and WBA/WBC #8 Alekseev didn't look extra spectacular but did his portion of work, connecting to his opponent's hand and body at will and rocking him numerous times in first three rounds. Releford retired on his stool after the third stanza on what didn't seem to be a dangerous cut. Alekseev is only the second boxer to stop Releford inside the distance; the first one being DaVarryl Williamson in 2004.

That's an impressive result.

Releford has an excellent defense. He's difficult to hurt and has gone the distance with some big heavyweights like Tye Fields.

Grigory Drozd should be fighting Cunningham for the title.  Is this an eliminator bout?

I agree, Drozd is better than Godfrey and should be fighting Cunningham for the vacant IBF title. Hopefully it will be a final eliminator - Drozd and Alexeev are both highly ranked by the WBA and the WBO.

I looked it up and they are fighting for some European title.  I would hope they get title shots soon.

Alexeev won today by brutal KO in round 2 today, against a decent opponent, rated BoxRec #29.

He looks to be back to 100% now, as good as he was before the Ramirez fight.

Wladimir started a new trend. Dimitrenko, Sprott and now Alexeev have all released call out videos.

Alexeev looked very sharp today, easily outboxing Enad Licina to win the European (EBU) Cruiserweight title.

A fight with Firat Arslan 32-5-1 (21) is in the works for May.

Yes, that should be quite an interesting fight! I have to admit I am a big fan of both Alexeev and Arslan. In fact, I actually have Alexeev as a FaceBook friend and very often he makes comments on his training, personal life etc.

Firat Arslan is Turkish so maybe he can be considered "borderline" white. In any case, Alexeev is rightfully favoured to win this match.

Arslan of a few years ago would have given a 50-50 fight, but now Arslan is past his best. I'd favour an Alexeev decision or late stoppage in this fight.

Either way, I enjor fights like these and they add value to the German boxing scene! Arslan is quite popular and has authored several books in Germany. Alexeev winning will elevate his status and popularity in Germany.

Good fight! Majority draw, so Alexeev retains his European title. I scored it 115-113 for Alexeev.

From fightnews:

http://www.fightnews.com/Boxing/results-from-germany-13-115161

European cruiserweight titleholder Alexander Alekseev (23-2-1, 20 KOs) retained his title by getting a twelve round draw against former world champion Firat Arslan (32-5-2, 21 KOs) on Friday night at the EWS Arena in Goeppingen, Germany.

At the age of 41, Arslan seemed to be in tough against the 31-year-old former amateur world champion. But, for the first ten rounds both fighters met in the center and traded punches on even terms with the gritty Arslan getting the upper hand as the fight progressed.

Alekseev changed his tactics and dominated by boxing from long range in round eleven, but it was back to toe-to-toe in the twelfth with Alekseev shading it. In the end, scores were 114-114, 114-114, 116-113 Alekseev.
