Since 2005, the Lobos have started 9, 11, 9, 7, 7, 6, 7, 5, 9, 9 , 7, 5, 5, 6, 4 and 9 whites. They drop down to 5 this year, although with two talented white WRs.

BIG name here is sophomore WR Luke Wysong. He was the New Mexico Gatorade Player of the Year in BOTH football and track and field, in which he was the 100m and 200m state champ. A big time playmaker who made a big impact as a starter his true freshman year. This guy has serious potential.

Speaking of Gatorade Players of the Year, freshman RB Zach Vigil was the 2021 Gatorade Player of the Year for football in New Mexico, and he could factor into the rotation. Vigil is from the same HS as former RB Josh Foley, another Player of the Year winner, who was a starter at NMSU before transferring to New Mexico and disappearing.

Austin Erickson is the other starting WR. His brother Andrew is a back-up. All three are in-state products.

Unfortunately, it's a quota carousel at QB. OL is similarly bare, white Hispanic starter Isaak Gutierrez is the lone paleface on the two-deep. There is one Asian backup.

Second year HC Danny Gonzales seems to have done a pretty good job picking up in-state white talent at skill positions. Even moreso considering New Mexico is one of the least white states in the country (although the number is likely considerably higher when you factor in Spaniards/white Hispanics - like Danny Gonzales - as well as people with one white, one mestizo parent). It will be interesting to see how he continues.

Offense -
WR - Luke Wysong
WR - Austin Erickson
TE - Will Dennis or Trace Bruckler
LG - Isaak Gutierrez

Defense -
NT - Jake Saltonstall

Notable back ups include RB Zach Vigil, WRs Andrew Erickson and Kade Zimmerman, TE Connor Whitthoft, DE Ian Shewell, LBs Cody Moon and Alex Marenco.
