Croom is gone, but State has a long way to go to be respectable from a Caste perspective. They had 2 starting whites in 2006 and 2007 and 3 last year. Things can only go up.

Offense
C J.C. Brignone
RG Mark Melichar
RT Addison Lawrence

Defense
WLB Chris White
FS Zach Smith

<div>If Dixon is suspended for the season, this could give a couple of white RBs/FBs a chance at some playing time, but I won't hold my breath waiting for a suspension.

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Police say Mississippi State running back
Anthony Dixon was arrested over the weekend and charged with driving
under the influence.

Running back Anthony Dixon, Mississippi State's top returning
offensive player, was arrested over the weekend and his status for the
season is unclear.

An arrest report from the Starkville Police
Department says Dixon was charged with driving under the influence
after officers found him intoxicated late Saturday night with two empty
champagne bottles on the floorboard of his car.
</font>
</font>

"Obviously I'm
extremely disappointed in Anthony Dixon's selfish decisions on Saturday
night that led to his arrest," first-year coach Dan Mullen said. "This
is a topic that we've discussed with our team several times; and we
expect each of our student-athletes to not put themselves in this
position. We'll continue to work with law enforcement while educating
our players about these matters."
</font>
</font>

It is unclear how the new coach
will handle disciplinary action or whether Dixon will be suspended for
the start of the season, which begins Sept. 5 against Jackson State.
Mullen said Dixon's discipline "will be appropriate and handled inside
the football program."

</font>

The 6-foot-1, 236-pound senior from Terry
rushed for 869 yards and seven touchdowns last season as the lone
bright spot on a disappointing offense to bring his career totals to
2,603 rushing yards and a Mississippi State record 30 rushing
touchdowns.
</font>
</font>

The 21-year-old also was cited for careless driving and failure to carry proof of insurance.</font></font>

A
narrative report from the arresting officer says Dixon drove his silver
Chevrolet Impala through parking spaces along the right side of the
street before he was pulled over.
</font>
</font>

The officer said Dixon's speech
was slurred. He refused a field sobriety test and declined a breath
intoxication test at the department, according to the report.
</font>
</font>

Dixon
apologized to fans in the statement: "I sincerely apologize to not only
my coaches and teammates, but also to all of the Mississippi State fans
that I've let down by my poor decisions. I will accept whatever
punishment coach Mullen decides and hope I can move forward and prepare
to help this team."
</font>
</font>

In an interview with The Associated Press last week, Dixon said he was excited about his role in Mullen's new spread offense.</font></font>

He's slimmed down since topping out around 250 pounds late last year and expects to start the season around 230.</font></font>

Dixon was named preseason second-team All-Southeastern Conference last week.

Sources close to the program tell me that new Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen is high on Daniel's "dual threat capabilities." Check out the highlight video above!

Remember former Greenwood High quarterback Daniel Stegall?

Stegall is slated to join the Mississippi State football team. We learned that via Twitter from Kyle Veazey, Mississippi State beat reporter for the Jackson (Miss.) Clarion Ledger.

Stegall
was a two-sport star at Greenwood High where he earned state
championships in baseball and football. He threw for 2,546 yards and 26
touchdowns, while rushing for 1,475 yards and 24 touchdowns as a senior.

Originally,
Stegall committed to Arkansas State before switching his commitment to
Miami two weeks before national signing day in 2005. Stegall eventually
settled on minor league baseball after being selected in the seventh
round by the New York Mets. Stegall reportedly signed an offer with a
bonus worth approximately $107,000.

In his final year at Greenwood, Stegall was 8-2 as a pitcher. He struck out 92 batters in 64 1/3 innings of work.Stegall was released by the Mets earlier this summer, according to the Greenwood Democrat. Stegall told the paper he had visited with coaches at Ohio University, Mississippi State, Arkansas and Auburn. <blockquote>

"Baseball is what I'm in love with," Stegall said. "It's tough, but I gave it my best shot. It didn't work out." </blockquote>

Will
Stegall be in the mix at quarterback? Who knows, but he's run a Spread
system has a good football background and the maturity that comes from
toiling in the minor leagues for several years.

Mississippi State gets him for free, so it seems like a good move for all parties.

Word from my source in Starkville is that QB Daniel Stegall is being redshirted in order to give him more time to add bulk. At 6-1 180, its probably a good idea. I hope he ends up starting sometime during the next couple of seasons. There is still a chance he might end up playing this year, depending on how good or bad the current QBs play.

He won't do any more physical maturing. He spent three years in the minors. He's already 21. I suppose he could add more muscle with their football weight program. He's never been in college though, so he's got his full eligibility. Plenty of time for him to eventually see the field for the Bulldogs.

Yeah Riddlewire, I think they want him to add some weight and get stronger. Their current QB crop isn't very good, so he could end up starting for quite a while.

Look for QB Daniel Stegall to get some playing time tomorrow against Houston. Black QB Chris Relf got arrested for smoking marijuana this week. That leaves the mulatto Lee and the white Stegall to battle for playing time.
