Last year, Jake Standeford wasn't projected to be a primary receiver, only coming in when they spread 4 wide, but by the end of the year, many would argue that he was their best receiver. even more-so than dorien bryant. hopefully someone like that can make a surge to a starting spot this year as well. this is probably the weakest receiving core a purdue team has had since.... well probably before tiller came in. orton, who is really the only one with real experience has never performed up to his potential and im sure the coaching staff will be looking for as many options as possible.

jaycen taylor, a part of the duo along with korey sheets that primarily split carries in the backfield, suffered a major leg injury today at practice. he is potentially out for the season, and this will likely transfer into more runs for dierking. i always hate to see bad things happen like this, especially since taylor has never been a trouble-maker and has been a great team leader. however, it seems as though dierking will benefit and hopefully gain more much needed experience for when he will be the feature back next year.

Purdue running back Jaycen Taylor will miss the 2008 season because of a torn knee ligament.

Taylor had an MRI on Tuesday to determine the extent of damage to his injured right knee, Purdue spokesman Tom Schott said. He will have surgery and miss the season but will return for his fifth year of eligibility in 2009.

Taylor, who missed four games last season due to a broken arm, injured his knee during practice on Sunday.

Boilermakers coach Joe Tiller said redshirt freshman Justin Siller switched from quarterback to running back. Taylor, a senior from Hawthorne, Calif., rushed 107 times for 560 yards and four touchdowns last season, sharing time at running back with Kory Sheets.

This is great news for Dan Dierking!

Dierking will be the #2 ball carrier for the Boilermakers this year. He might outshine Kory Sheets if given the same number of carries. I am very happy about this news.

Black QB Siller dismissed from Purdue team for academic reasons.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) - Purdue quarterback Justin Siller has been dismissed from school through 2009-10 for an academic violation.
<DIV ="in_info__btm">

The redshirt sophomore from Detroit was expected to compete with fifth-year senior Joey Elliott for the starting job next season.

Siller started three games last year, including his first start against Michigan when he led the Boilermakers to a 48-42 win and was the Big Ten's offensive co-player of the week. He completed 21 of 34 passes for 266 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 77 yards and another score in that game.

Purdue coach Danny Hope said in a statement Friday that Siller made a bad academic decision and deserved to be punished. He would not elaborate on the violation.Edited by: Colonel_Reb
