Well. Looks like Volk got old overnight, he did us proud while his reign lasted, taking a fight so soon after a brutal knockout can't be good for his chin.

Garry won.

Surprised Volk got slept like that. His battles at 155 with Islam seem to have come back to haunt him. Credit to Topuria with his crisp and powerful boxing.

Volkanovski has been knocked out twice in the last 4 months. Horrible. Was way too soon to fight again after the knockout loss to Islam. Volkanovski took the second fight with Islam Makhachev on 12 days notice. That was irresponsible on the part of his representatives to allow that fight to happen. Volk needed a full camp to prepare for a top figher like Makhachev.

To fight anyone 4 months after a knockout is a horrible decision, but to fight a guy with heavy hands like Topuria, who was knocking guys out, is just inexcusable. That is a path to CTE. Two awful choices by Volk and his management might have just ended his career, and worse yet, might lead to permanent damage to his brain.

Overall I’d agree. Not looking good, after a historic run to the top. Not worried about CTE as much. Flash KOs in UFC look worse than repeated beatings taken in boxing.
