This is more of a baseball post but this pitcher
could throw up to 110mph according to Bobby Cox in the 1960's. He
never pitched in the majors, but got called up and threw his arm
out. The pitcher in Bull Durham is based on him. I just
wonder how he could throw so hard. He attributes it to quick
wrist. I think it is also due to a really loose motion, which
would account for his speed and tremendous lack of accuracy.

One of my friends back in the early to mid 90's swore up and down that his grandfather could throw over 110. None of us ever believed him though.

I saw a program on this dude about a year ago....On the show they said he could actually throw closer to 120mph....He was a pretty small dude too...I forget his exact measurements but it was something like 5'9" 175lbs.....

It is sad that the guy was an alcoholic. He
became a drifter after the Orioles released him and became divorced
from his wife. Recently, he has sobered up and threw the first
pitch of an Orioles game in 2003.
