Great find floridaboy99. I wonder if they will try him at corner? UCONN has recruited Gavin McHenry for corner as well. This is strange becasue in all the years UCONN has been D1 they have never recruited or played a white DB. How can Hayden Jones not have any offers as I believe DB Taylor Barton and his 4.4 speed is also on this high school team.

I hope they give him a shot at corner, looks to me he could play it. To me Hayden Jones is puzzling, not taking anything away from Marder, but I've watched all the top recruits film and I've not seen anyone with the speed that Jones has. It just baffles me that he doesn't any offers and his teammate just commited to a BCS school.

What also puzzles me is I was just looking up Hayden Jone's 100 meter times and he only runs a 10.9. I can name a lot of D1 white football players that have run 100.5 and 10.6 like Mike Trumpy, Jarred Abbrederis and Johnathan Warzeka. Its amazing how somone can fly over 40 but fade over 100 meters. I used to watch Mike Hart ( I. Colts ) run the 100 in Syracuse NY in high school. He consistently ran a 10.8 or 10.9 yet his combine 40 was 4.6. Just weird. Jordan Shipley was the same way.

Mike Hart's original listed estimated time in the 40 yard dash at the NFL combine was 4.69, but I've seen him listed at 4.64 a lot.

Another puzzling one is Darren McFadden running a fast, but not blazing, 10.8 100 meters, but an absolutely blazing 4.33 40 yard dash!

McGuffie is the same way- with a 10.86 100 in H.S, but a 4.32 40, (although he just got his 100 meter down to a PB of 10.7 last year at Rice).

There were guys like Hunter Furr with his 10.4 100 meter speed and Ryan Swope with his 10.5 100 meter speed that "only" ran in the low 4.4s in the 40 according to the "recruiting" boards I looked at. That's fast, but you'd expect them to be in the low 4.3s with that kind of 100 meter speed.

McGuffie is like Taylor Martinez or Chris Johnson for how fast he hits his top speed.

Good point TJR. What scares me about McGuffie is that he only has one college highlight film out there and it scares me. Sure he tore up Notre Dame but he was very awkward and tight and looked like all of his runs were like Crazy Legs Elroy Hircsh. I havent found any of his Rice highlights but I ownder if he might be suited for the slot in the NFl. He is probably the best rb I have ever seen at running in open space but he dosent juke a lot and dosent make defenders miss when in close distance. Then again he has Chris Johnson acceleration so maybe juking all the time is overrated. What do you think?

I will say that I don't think McGuffie is as good an NFL RB prospect as Hillis, Woodhead, Gehart, Beaver, Burkhead or probably not even Nile Knapp, John Howell, or Eric Gerber (if they end up getting PT in college and add a little more muscle). McGuffie is built to be a scatback, but sometimes stuttersteps too much and doesn't show good instincts often enough. McGuffie might wind up like a Reggie Bush in the NFL, (but then again Bush isn't a bad player, he's just more of a third down back specialist). Of course Bush returns kicks too which Guff doesn't do yet.

Not comparing styles just how much of an impact Sam would have: I'd say McGuffie is about as good an NFL prospect as Wegher, Line or Sharp. I'd say. Two guys I watched a lot at Rutgers that Sam is a better runner than are Martinek and Leonard, Guff is also better than Nate Kmic, Stan Zwiggi, Blake Smolen or Michael Campanaro as a RB. McGuffie is a FAR BETTER propect than average college back Luke Lippincott lol.

Guff started to come along more towards the end of last year. Once he makes the first guys miss, he needs to use his burst, speed and balance to his advantage while hitting the seam and breaking arm tackles while heading "north-south". He also seems to try to juke too late in tight space at times- to where the defense can completely collapse on him. He needs to make his cut a little earlier and use his "crazy legs" to leave the defender(s) in the dust.

Wow , good call. I think McGuffie will rush for a thousand yards in the NFL but he needs the right team and truthfully you dont need to juke a lot to be a great rb and he obvously is the most athletic rb to come out in maybe 15 years. IMO.

Its been discussed before here but Companoro should be a cornerback. He was called by Athlon recruting one of the two fastest guys in the ACC. I guess they forgot about Hunter Furr. But I think Companaro will at least crack one kickoff for a td and average almost 28.0 yards in kickoffs this season. He is probably not a natural wide receiver so IM not expecting much from him this year but this kids got great hips and could easily be an all ACC corner if given the chance.

Does anyone think McGuffie's upside could be LeSean McCoy with more burst? McCoy has turned into quite the all-purpose back for the Eagles and makes his cuts kind of like McGuffie. The difference is that McCoy has superior RB instincts right now and breaks tackles a little better.
