Yeah, the "Red Tails" might not need the label "never had a plane shot down" but I bet the media keeps using it. The idea that "no one could have done it better" will always be trumpeted. I'm glad its finally out though, because I always figured they had to have lost some planes.

How about Morgan Freeman in Bruce Almighty? This magic negro sprecialist got to play God in the flick. Doesn't get any more magical than that!

Yes indeed. Morgan Freeman is like the H.N.I.C. (Head N*gger In Charge) of the "Magic Negro" species. lol.

Yes, no question, Morgan Freeman is the Grand Poo Bah of Magical Negrohood. He started out as a chaffeur magic negro in "Driving Miss Daisy" eventually made it to Presidential Magic Negro in the comet hits earth/tidal wave movie, and then to Magic Negro God in Bruce Almighty as mentioned above. What's left? Magic Negro from another dimension???

You know, since I shook the guy's hand once, the magic should have rubbed off on me. Of course, with me being a white man, I guess it doesn't work.

Maybe they'll redo Peter Pan with Freeman starring and Tinker Bell. Then he'll sprinkle magic negro dust and make everyone be able to fly. Hell, maybe he'll be kind and sprinkle some white folks with it so they can run faster and jump higher!

Morgan Freeman also played the scientific genius at Wayne Industries in the
recent Batman movie. If you think about it, blacks are often placed in the
roles of heroic scientific geniuses by Hollywood. This of course, is almost
non-existent in the real world.

Your cause? Or OUR cause?

If our cause isn't your cause, what are you doing on this board?

Morgan was also magical in the Clint Eastwood movie - Unforgiven. Remember that one? Just about every white guy in that film was a creep, loser, coward or sadistic bully. In one scene Clint and Morgan are hiding in the hills taking aim on some white horsemen. Morgan had some pangs of conscience and just couldn't pull the trigger. Old Clint was left to do the deed alone. Then, after evil white men beat up and killed Freeman, Clint's wrath was unleashed in a furious assault on the wretches. So damn predictable.

Would Morgan Freeman's role as the Muslim wise man in Kevin Costner's "Robin Hood" qualify as another role for the Magical Negro?

That may be the single funniest phrase I've heard all week, Jax.

Bart, good points. Eastwood also turned me off with his pro-Jap movie "Letters from Iwo Jima" where he portrayed our enemy in a sympathetic light (as they killed American soldiers). I'm no fan of Eastwood's recent films. Overall, Clint doesn't hold a candle to the Duke (in my book).

One of the most ridiculous casting decisions in the history of movies. I remember seeing the movie in the theater and thinking "what the heck is a black guy doing in mideaval England?" They would have killed someone like that the minute they saw him.

Freeman's character in that movie was very wise, too, and used technology unavailable to the Englishmen, like the telescope. In one scene, a young white boy asks Morgan about his black skin. Freeman replies, "Allah loves wondrous variety."

Yeah, that in the time of the crusades. Worshipping Allah would have been a ticket straight to the gallows. Hollywood really has contempt for commonsense.

Dude lighten up, even black people can see the humor in goofing on the silly Morgan Freeman worship that goes on in Hollywood. The whole Magic Negro thing is competely deserving of our scorn and we have a DUTY here to make fun of such stuff. It's a tough job we take on for ourselves but we're up to it.
