Q & A: Evansville Memorial's Kyle Kuric
August 13, 2007

Evansville Memorial's Kyle Kuric is a 6-foot-5 shooting guard who had an
impressive summer traveling with the Evansville Basketball Club. Kuric
took a few moments to answer a handful of questions from Matt Denison
earlier today.

Hoosier Hills Hoops: What scholarship offers do you currently have on the
table?
Kyle Kuric: Michigan, Saint Louis, Southern Illinois, Ole Miss, Charlotte,
Evansville, Butler, Indiana State, Central Michigan, Bradley, Youngstown
State.

Hoosier Hills Hoops: There's been some talk of you receiving "preferred
walk on" offers from a few additional high-major programs. If true, which
schools have extended those to you?
Kyle Kuric: Louisville -- red shirt, walk on one year, then scholarship after
that. Duke -- a year of prep (school) then possible scholarship.

Hoosier Hills Hoops: A handful of high-major programs entered the mix
recently. How big of an impact do you feel the July evaluation period had
on your recruitment?
Kyle Kuric: I played well in Las Vegas with several new coaches watching.
There has been new interest and offers based on that so July worked out
well for me.

Hoosier Hills Hoops: The NCAA allows five official campus visits. When
and where do you plan to take these?
Kyle Kuric: I haven't decided yet. I will probably take a mix of unofficial
and official visits. Michigan, Duke, Louisville, Ole Miss, Indiana, Saint
Louis and Southern Illinois are still in the mix.

Hoosier Hills Hoops: Do you have a specific time frame that you would
like to make your college decision by?
Kyle Kuric: No. I will commit when I find the right place.

Hoosier Hills Hoops: Evansville native Walter McCarty is the University of
Louisville's newest assistant coach. I understand that you have some
background with him. Talk about those experiences and if you feel those
will help increase the Cardinals' interest?
Kyle Kuric: Walter played for my current AAU coach Mike Thomas. He has
seen me play several times and I have talked to him a lot before he went
to Louisville and since. I know Walter told (Rick) Pitino about me and both
caught one of my games in Las Vegas. It would be great to play for Coach
Pitino and McCarty.

Hoosier Hills Hoops: You traveled to Duke for their summer camp and
had a chance to play against some of their famed assistant coaches. What
was that experience like and how serious is their interest?
Kyle Kuric: It was a great experience for me. I got to play with them and
learn from them daily. It was a good change for me to get to know them
and for them to get to know me. As far as their interest goes, coach
(Chris) Collins said they have good interest in me because I'm a good kid,
have a lot of potential and Duke was 'my team' growing up.

Hoosier Hills Hoops: Your name has been mentioned with Indiana
University on-and-off. How serious is their interest and has it intensified
since the evaluation period in July?
Kyle Kuric: I went to Indiana (University) Elite Camp the end of June and
Coach (Kelvin) Sampson watched a couple of my games in July. He has
been in contact with me regularly. They are looking at a couple of
shooting guards so I'll see how things go over the next couple of weeks.

Hoosier Hills Hoops: How good can your Evansville Memorial high school
team be this upcoming season.
Kyle Kuric: We will be good. We return our entire starting five players.
This should be our year.

Kuric's offer list growing

Talk about it in The Fort
When Cardinalsports.com last spoke with Evansville (Reitz) shooting
guard Kyle Kuric close to a month ago, he was just starting to get looks
from schools. Now, the 6-foot-4 prospect is up to close to a dozen
scholarship offers.

Kuric said he will visit Louisville in September.
"It's nice," Kuric said of the attention he's been receiving. "It's good to
have coaches calling."

The latest to call with an offer was a Big Ten program that offered him on
Tuesday. "The newest offer would be Penn State," Kuric revealed to
Cardinalsports.com Tuesday night. "I got that one today. Coach (Ed)
DeChellis called me. He just said they would try to get me up there for a
visit, and they want to offer me a scholarship."

The offer from the Nittany Lions brings his total up over ten at this point.
Southern Illinois, Bradley, Butler, Evansville, Indiana State, Michigan, Ole
Miss, Penn State, Louisville, St. Louis, and Charlotte are among those that
have offered.

The Cardinals' offer is a conditional one. "They told me the first year I
would walk-on, redshirt a year, and then after that it would be a
scholarship," Kuric explained. "It's still a good opportunity, even though
I'd have to pay my way for one year. After that I'd have a scholarship
for four years."

Kuric's main contact with UofL is assistant coach Walter McCarty, an
Evansville native. Kuric also has another contact at Louisville - his sister
goes there. In fact, he and his family went to the UofL campus Saturday to
help her move in. Is she trying to convince him to join her? "I thought she
would but not really," he said with a laugh.

"I'm going to try and go up there again in September and meet with
Coach (Rick) Pitino," he added.

Despite all of the attention, Kuric said he doesn't have any favorites right
now and he is "trying to look at all of the options."

Another major school that may eventually offer is Duke, where he
attended camp earlier this year. "They want me to come on an official visit
sometime during the season and get there for a game," he said of the
Blue Devils. "Then after that, we'll talk about it and see what's going to
happen."

While out of state schools are showing him love, his instate schools
haven't been paying as much attention. "I don't hear much at all from
Purdue anymore. (I hear) a little bit from Indiana, but they're waiting to
see on the new shooting guard they offered," Kuric remarked.

Kuric said the schools recruiting him the hardest are Michigan, Ole Miss,
Southern Illinois, Louisville, and St. Louis.

What's next in store for the athletic guard? "I'm just going to set up visits
to some of the schools, check them out,
and make a decision from there," he answered, adding that he isn't sure if
he will make a decision prior to his senior basketball season or not.

Kuric is known as not only a shooter, but also a fairly athletic slasher who
isn't afraid to take the ball into the paint. He has a 37-inch vertical jump.
As a junior at Reitz Memorial, Kuric averaged 23.2 points per game and
was named to the South team for the Junior All-Stars. He was an efficient
shooter, knocking down 61.6% from the field including 46.8% shooting
from beyond the arc. He also hit 84.0% from the line. Kuric's 32 points
against Bosse in the sectionals was not enough as Memorial fell 56-54 to
the eventual 3A state finalist
