Redick is a better shooter than Hornacek  but isn't as good a defender.
True and true, My point is about Redick avg. 15-16 pts. for a long-time, which Hornacek did. Redick is a better shooter only in the slightest terms, because Horancek could falt-out shoot too, and was a very savvy player. This is the standard I want Redick to achieve, savvy and consistency.

From Rotoworld: These clowns are blaming Redick for the Magic loss to the Pistons in ridiculous fashion.

Nov 3 Redick finished with 14 points (4-of-12 FG, 3-of-6 3pt, 3-of-3 FT), one rebound, one assist, and one steal in 40 minutes as the Magic's starting shooting guard.

Recommendation: The Magic opted to start Redick for a second straight game and move the returning Vince Carter over to small forward. Redick had a hard time staying in front of Ben Gordon, and the Magic fell for the first time this season to a struggling Pistons team. This may have been his last game as a starter.

Here's where this is BS and it's BS in 5 ways:
1. Redick has become at least a solid defender with his savvy and solid athleticism and even Stan VG has stated this. This was evident by how solid he guarded Ray Allen in the playoffs.

2. Ben Gorden is one of the quickest shooting guards in the league that gives most "elite" defenders trouble with his ability to get to the paint. Gordon hurts himself most when his own accuracy is hurting.

3. When you count Redick's offensive prowess and knock down shooting ability on this team of penetrators like Jameer, Vince and Pietrus and post-up men like Dwight Howard, he aids this team more than his sometimes very average defense against SGs with the most elite foot speed hurts.

4. Dwight Howard fouled out in this game with just under 17 minutes of court action. I would say losing their team MVP hurt more than Redick's "supposed" suspect defense against a guy with one of the quickest first few steps in the league.

5. I didn't watch the game, but something doesn't add up here. Gordon had 23 points, which is good, but not ridiculously good. This was on 10 shots and with 11 FT attempts however. Redick only had 3 PFs which would have accounted for only 4 to 6 FT points at most. Gordon didn't miss a single FT, which made his night look better than it was- and it appears the officials were quick to call fouls on other defenders against Gordon as well. Where was the help defense by Howard?

Maybe Rotoworld has a partnership with Rivals?

This is also ridiculous in that Redick was downright dominant as a very important role player in the Magic's first two victories. Now after he couldn't "shut down" one of the fastest shooting guards in the league, (without Howard protecting the hoop btw) in the team's first loss, (it wasn't an eye popping day for Gordon either) it's MR. Whitey SG's fault. Two good games for Redick and little is mentioned, but one so-so game and a loss for the Magic and it's his fault? According to Stan Van Gundy, Redick is an above average perimeter defender against most guards. I think I'll trust his own coach more than a junk food eating Rotoworld analyst quoted on CaucasianRivals' Yahoo.

That was the original knock on JJ, Tough J.  Supposedly according to "expert" scouts he doesn't have the lateral speed to guard shooting guards.  That is not true at all.  He isn't a freak athlete but his athleticism is good for the shooting guard position.

Well, I'm excited J-Will is back in the NBA and will be a benefit to Redick's development into a NBA star. I have been disgusted with the NBA the past couple of years, but with Dirk's amazing 29 point 4th quarter last night and J-Will's re-entry into the league, there seems to be a little more to reason to stay tuned this season.

Yeah, Gordon would have had 12 points on 6-10 shooting from the field without his 11-11 FT shooting. The stats- that Maximus loves- point to his night against Redick not being "spectacular" by any means. Redick didn't account for more than 5 or 6 at most of Gordon's successful FT attempts- as he only had 3 PFs total in the game.

BTW Redick scored 14 points on 12 shots and that's about a 1.18 point per attempt ratio. That is a not all too shabby scoring night! efficiency wise.

Just checked: The other starters, Nelson, Carter and Anderson all had worse nights in the +/- category. Although Gordon was +15, Redick was only -3, so it looks like it was the other starters along with Howard playing less than 17 minutes that hurt the Magic most.

I caught roughly half that game at the bar. First of all, those three Piston guards (Bynum, Gordon, Stucky) are probably more explosive than 95% of NBA players, so when they're all feeling it they're hard to stop. And although Redick was getting scored on, Jameer Nelson was getting absolutely embarrassed.Compared to Nelson, JJ Redick looked like Gary Payton. Nelson sometimes looked like he had cinder-blocks on his feet, whereas Redick was at least staying with his man for the most part.

Another story of the game was that white rookie, Jonas Jerebko of the Pistons (who is a PF/SF) started and absolutely held Vince Carter in check. Jonas has no problem guarding the 2-4 positions and can even guard some 1s and 5s. He's a hyper athletic player who prefers to do the garbage work (like Dennis Rodman who some have compared him to). The Piston organization has been gushing about him since the Summer League.

Great info Fightingtowin!

It is disgusting the level of anti-white hate in the American media. The Canadian media isn't one to brag about, but it puts the American one to shame by comparison as far as the level of fawning over blacks and emasculating of whites. In my experience people brought up race much less in Canada (partly b/c of overboard hate crime laws), but at least the media would report stereotyping or racism against whites almost as much as blacks in the papers/blogs I read. Racism of any kind or color simply isn't tolerated in Canada. However, the problem is that "un-pc" comments about race/sexual orientation etc. sometimes get labeled inaccurately as "racism" more often north of the boarder. The thought police of any stereotypical comments are stronger in Canada.

What can be held to be "racism" is usually highly subjective, and is mainly used as a political (and criminal) weapon against certain people and groups while being ignored and/or encouraged among others. Racism is generally defined as the exalting of one race as superior to another. Criticizing the behavior of a group, or an individual of a group, does not make one a "racist." All that and a lot more falls under freedom of speech, freedom of association, and freedom and liberty generally. A country that "doesn't tolerate racism of any kind" is a flat-out dictatorship, whether it holds elections or not.

Yeah let me clarify what I mean. The biggest problem I have with Canada is that "racist" jokes or a simple comment of disapproval of black culture (which could include a comment on the all too common victimization mentality, believing they are entitled or their overplaying of the race card) or even disgust with rap music (I actually had someone call me racist for criticizing black gangster rap once) are more likely to get you deemed a "racist" than in the U.S. I agree with you for the most part on racism Don- and how the word is wrongly used.

Racism can be using "dehumanizing" words toward another race of people based on genetic propaganda, slandering a race with "untrue" statements/writings in order to create disdain, but of course the most common definition is claiming absolute superiority over them- (although to me, the worse racists add to that third definition the placing of no worth on their lives). The most extreme form of racism is when one group gains complete control over another racial groups' way of life and takes away all their rights and social worth or in even more extreme cases commits genocide.

We are seeing a social movement (culture war) to take away freedom and the voice of socially conservative Christians right now. We are also seeing a movement to displace white culture and values and deem anything pro-white culture as racist. The ultimate goal is to displace white culture with minority culture and bring more far left government control which will eventually make white Christian leadership and power obsolete. The final goal of the most extreme cultural Marxists is to wipe Christian culture off the map and put religious people in jail or even worse. The people in my life get this and that is why they support me in my fight. Glen Beck reported on how one of Obama's advisors is so fond of dictator and mass murder- communist Mao Zedong. This is scary!Edited by: ToughJ.Riggins

Don, one of the greatest things about your site is that most of us do not claim complete superiority over black athletes. We are willing to discuss some un-pc taboo issues of strengths and weakness tendencies of different races-especially in how it relates to sports and that's a good thing. Most of us just want white athletes to be given a fair shake. The amazing thing is that I can go on these DWF boards or explain how ridiculous and obvious Rivals push is to make the FBS 1% white at WR or coal black at CB. I can give them all kinds of statistics that they don't want to hear, so they attack me as a "racist". I'd rather be here with people who "get it" than these DWF idiots who are the true "racists" (some of them self loathing whites).

DW,

Many of today's US politicians were yesterday's 60's and early 70's radicals. It's sad and scary how any of these numskulls became elected politicians. I use to think Jews and Communists were different things, now I see why all this talk of Zionists and Socialism being one. Socialism after all, was founded by a bunch of German Jews, Karl Marx, and Friedrich Engels.

Looks like Mr. defensive "upside" rookie SG Demar DeRozan had more trouble with Ben Gordon than J.J Redick did, but there was no disparaging the Afrolete on Rotowire. DeRozan became a starter for the Raptors in his first game as a rookie unlike Redick.

The Raptors beat Detroit 110-99 and every single player had a positive +/- number except the supposed athletic freak defensive phenom Demar DeRozan. DeRozan was 1-5 from the field for 3 points and had a -10 +/- number in only 18:10 minutes of court time with 2 fouls. Gordon scored 30 points on 10-19 shooting, which appears to be an even better night than he had against Redick. DeRozan was a guy that analysts called the best athlete in the 2009 NBA draft and a probable future "All NBA" defender at SG.

As usual it was all whitey's fault that he couldn't completely "shut down" one of the fastest guys to the paint in the NBA with Howard fouling out in under 17 minutes of court time...wow, Rotowire- just wow!

The end of last year and this year is the first serous action for J.J in the NBA and he is doing quite well. Vince Carter will be returning next game to reclaim his starting job and now Pietrus is fully recovered from the flu like symptoms he had. Then in a few games, Rashard Lewis will return to his SF spot from his suspension. Still, if Redick isn't at least a 6th or 7th man once the team's roster is fully functional- than he is getting screwed. He should get some time filling in for Carter and the Magic can slide Carter or Pietrus over to SF and play them alongside Redick-when they take Rashard out.

JJ Redick and Ryan Anderson have been putting up solid numbers 5 games into the new season, as starters. If Carter, Pietrus & Lewis return to give the Magic it's full roster strength, then it's a darn shame to see these two rotting on the bench. Anderson, Redick, Gortat & J-Will should form the secondary team, as in:

6th man - Redick
7th man - Anderson
8th man - J-Will
9th man - Gortat
10th man - Anyone

Each of these guys should get 20-25 minutes per outing, CONSISTENTLY!!! Edited by: j41181

I think the Magic are sitting on a good situation. With such an "underrated" second team they now havechampionship caliber depth!

With the way Anderson is playing and with his ability to play pick and pop and let it rain on a team of good penetrators, I think he will stay in the starting lineup if Van Gundy is smart.

This should be the Magic's rotation:
Starting team:
PG Jamer Nelson
SG Vince Carter
SF Rashard Lewis
PF Ryan Anderson
C Dwight Howard

Bench
6th man- SG Redick (18-30 minutes)
7th man- PF Bass (17-28 min.- the better defensive PF- worse offensively)
8th man- PG J-Williams (15-25 min.)
9th man- SF Pietrus (14-24 min.)
10th man- C Gortat (10-25 min.- can depend on Howard's foul count)

This is a deep team and should use a 10 man rotation. Redick is good enough to continue to see a consistent range of 18-30 minutes a game during the season. If Gortat can learn to extend his range, he could play more alongside Howard at PF- as he is certainly athletic enough to play PF. Right now however, he is more comfortable at Center. He won't play much there unless Howard is in foul trouble (which is quite common actually). Redick can play alongside Carter, Pietrus or Lewis at SG- and Pietrus can play alongside everyone as well at both SG and SF.Edited by: ToughJ.Riggins

Attention Rotowire: J.J winning the +/- battle against Ben Gordon tonight by quite a bit! Gordon is a very poor 5-17 from the floor being guarded by Redick and Pietrus tonight. Redick's played Gordon tough and has 5 fouls. Gordon's 9-11 from the line and being saved by the whistle a lot, but he only has 19 points on 17 shots and is -8 +/-

Redick's stats 3-7 FG, 3-6 3-Pt, 7-7 FT, 2 Ast, 0 TO- 16 points tonight on just 7 shots. Redick has outplayed Ben Gordon. A good night for J.J as a role player as he's +9 in the +/- category while 6th man Pietrus is -5 and has 3 points on 8 shots. Redick had been rebounding solid also, but unfortunately has nil rebounds tonight while Pietrus has 3 boards, 1 Stl, 1 Blk, but 1 TO- overall Redick is the man at SG for the Magic right now!

JJ Redick has been every dude's guy these day...hmmm. Well fortunately for you guys he just had another solid game. I love how he's going up against some of the better guards of the NBA, like Ben Gordon, Rodney Stuckey, and Will Bynum. Unlike their last meeting, the Magic this time defeated the Pistons, 110-101.

16 points (3-7 FG's, 3-6 3pt's, 7-7 FT's)
2 assists

The bad new about today is Ryan Anderson, dude just sprained his ankle. Despite chipping in 11 points. I pray this doesn't ruin his impressive start.

Yeah, I just posted about J.J above your post. For once I beat somebody by 2 minutes instead of vice versa, lol. He outplayed Ben Gordon tonight to the chagrin of Rotowire. The difference was the Magic had Howard 38.5 minutes this time.

Btw, I must correct my two earlier posts on Redick from the first Pistons' game. I think it was Rotowire, not Rotoworld that made the disparaging comments about Redick.

J.J is struggling in today's game.  So far he has missed all 4 3 pointers he has attempted and is 1 of 5 shooting overall.  I hope he can turn it around with a little more than 2 quarters yet to play.

Redick is +4 in the +/- category though, which indicates he's playing lock down D. He also has 3 rebounds, 1 assist and only 1 TO. Redick and J. Williams are actually the only players that have a positive +/- on the whole Magic team currently.
