Updated BYU's starters. Looks like 16 to start the season, but possibly 15, depending on the outcome of the battle between Terrance Hooks and Shawn Doman at BLB. Supposedly, the starter for that position will be decided today.

Watching BYU defeat #3 Oklahoma tonight was an anti-caste memory I may never forget. It was so dramatic and so just, like something that was truely meant to occur.

The always reliable collegiate caste stooge, Boob Stoops, must have been seething as he watched the 95% white BYU roster celebrating the defeat of his "inherently more athletic," nearly all-black team. Personally, I'm glad wanna-be feather-head hero, Sam Branford, was injured.

BYU's lineup looks the way every NFL lineup should look today, and should have looked for the past 30 years (2-3 black starters total). However, it's Boob Stoop's Oklahoma squad that more closely resembles a "professional" football team. Well, I saw that staduim packed with zombie drunken white fans....how do they feel about their fallen black heroes? Silly me, they probably didnt even realize that BYU was nearly all-white....they are all colorblind, media-contrived flesh machines.

I don't normally have this feeling when watching the NCAA or NFL....but tonight I was genuinely happy.Edited by: Thrashen

Awesome win tonight by BYU! Huge caste upset! I'm really glad they won this game, even though they wasted many opportunities to pull ahead earlier in the game. The biggest win for the program in 20 years will hopefully be followed by a win against Tulane and Florida State! McKay Jacobson looks awesome, as does TE Dennis Pitta. J.J. DiLuigi looked good too. Hopefully the running game will improve over the next couple of weeks, because it was a weak point tonight. Congrats Cougars!

Notice one of the token BYU black starters was called for a pass interference penalty that almost cost them the game?

Yep, I noticed that too Liverlips. He's at CB, of course. Still, the defense played very well against OU.

ENDING AN 18-YEAR DROUGHT

The last time BYU beat a nonconference team ranked in the Top 10
was its 28-21 win over No. 1 Miami on Sept. 8, 1990. The win on
Saturday gave the Cougars their first win over a ranked nonconference
opponent since it defeated No. 14 Arizona State, 26-6, on Sept. 12,
1998. Since that day, BYU had lost 12 consecutive games to ranked
nonconference opponents. The last time BYU beat a ranked nonconference
opponent on a neutral field was the Cotton Bowl game of Jan. 1, 1997,
when BYU beat No. 14 Kansas State, 19-15.

MENDENHLL TEAMS DEFEATING RANKED FOES

Under Bronco Mendenhall, BYU is now 2-6 vs. ranked foes, with its other win a 31-17 victory over No. 15 TCU on Sept. 28, 2006.

LEADING A RANKED TEAM

The Cougars took their first lead of the night with 3:03 remaining
in the game, giving them a 14-13 lead, their first over a ranked team
since Sept. 28, 2006 when BYU defeated No. 15 TCU, 31-17.

FLAG BEARER

BYU has a tradition of selecting a player before each game to run
the team flag onto the field, as well as a former Cougar to carry out
the alumni flag. Each member of the team has signed the team flag,
while former BYU players have signed the alumni flag. Their signatures
reflect their commitment to uphold the tradition, spirit and honor of
the BYU football program and to be a flag bearer of the University.

As part of the 25-year anniversary celebration of BYU's national
championship, each alumni chosen to carry out the flag this year will
be a member of the 1984 team. Carrying the team flag today was senior
defensive lineman Brett Denney,
with former BYU quarterback Robbie Bosco carrying the alumni flag.
Bosco played for the Cougars from 1981, 82-85, leading them to the
National Championship his junior season.

COIN TOSS

Today BYU won the toss and elected to defer. Last season the Cougars won the toss seven times, going 5-2 in those games.

AGAINST THE BIG 12

With tonight's win the Cougars now have a 15-22 overall record
against Big 12 opponents. BYU has faced every team in the conference
except Nebraska, and has a winning record against Missouri, Oklahoma,
Texas and Texas A&M.

The last Big 12 vs. BYU matchup was on Jan. 1, 1997 when the Cougars defeated Kansas State, 19-15, at the Cotton Bowl.

The Cougars' first game against a current Big 12 opponent was the
University of Colorado, which handed BYU a 41-0 loss on Oct. 20, 1923.

SEASON OPENERS

Tonight's win marked the third consecutive season BYU has opened
with a win. The Cougars defeated Arizona, 20-7, at LaVell Edwards
Stadium in 2007 and Northern Iowa also at home, 41-17, in 2008. Since
1922, the Cougars have posted a 49-35-2 record in season-opening games.
The last time BYU opened the season with a road win was back in 1994
when it defeated Hawaii, 13-12, in Honolulu.

COMPETING AS A RANKED TEAM

With tonight's win, the Cougars are 149-44 when nationally ranked
in the Top 25. A ranked BYU team has won 18 of its last 21 games,
dating back to 2006.

CONSECUTIVE CATCHES

All-American tight end Dennis Pitta
caught his first pass of the game with 3:51 remaining in the first
half. Pitta has caught a pass in 31 consecutive games dating back to
Oct. 23, 2004 (at Air Force), prior to his mission. He finished with a
game-high 90 yards and seven catches.

Bryan Kariya was a workhorse for BYU last night with 17 carries for 52 yds. He got them tough yards when they needed him. He looks white/asian.

SteveB, you are correct. Bryan had a great game, even though I didn't expect him to see so much action. I was thinking J.J. was Unga's backup, and I hope J.J. gets more carries throughout the season.

Well, I posted about the BYU in about 4 different threads during and right after the game. It was a great game for the Cougars. Unfortunately, some people still aren't convinced. One of my relatives said "let's see them do that to an SEC team, then we'll talk." I'm still working on getting him out of a caste/SEC way of thinking. Its pretty easy to see that BYU could beat at least half of the SEC teams right now. They probably would lose to Florida, but the others top tier SEC teams would be pretty close, imho.

Finally the Cougars are ranked. Good luck to them.

BYU was ranked #20 in the preseason poll, but nice to see them jump into the top ten in the AP poll. They will have to work hard to stay in the top 10 to earn a spot in a BCS bowl.

They'd whoop the snot outta "my" (former) UGA Dawgs. I think they'd handle Auburn, LSU, UT & Ole Miss as well.

I will root for an Asian guy from time to time, they certainly don't get the preferential caste treatment that the Islanders, Dark Hispanics and God's chosen Affletes get.

Is he really half Asian? He looks pretty white to me.

Yeah, the Islanders (just like the Afroletes) definitely get special treatment, but I've noticed that Hawaiians get it less so because they aren't as dark as Samoans, Tongans, Fijians etc. I would root for Mestizo, Native American and Asian football players close to as much as whites myself, b/c they don't get special treatment at all like the aforementioned do.

I had the BYU-Tulane game on for less than 5 minutes when a shot of a group of BYU defenders, all white, was shown. The whitestep 'n fetchitdoingthe color for the broadcast immediately declared that the players on the Cougars defense were "interchangeable" and that "you won't find many athletes in this group," but that they had high motors, blah, blah, blah.

Does anyone have an idea which school has put the most white players into the NFL in the past 10 years or so? I am willing to bet any money it is BYU.

BYU is tearing Tulane up 53-3 with 8:15 left in the 4th. DiLuigi and Kariya have 2 TDs each. I hope/think they'll beat the dogsqueeze outta the FSU "Criminoles"!

BYU will be top 7 after this week at least with Oklahoma State losing and either Ohio State or USC losing. If BYU wins a national championship - or at least gets to the title game - it will be the biggest caste buster possible.

Don, I heard the same comment during the game....then those "unathletic" group of "nobodies" pounded another nearly all-black team by 50 points. They were saying the same thing about BYU's WR corps. I'm sure those annoucers thought today's win was merely another "BYU fluke."

You should have heard Lee Corso talking about BYU on ESPN this morning. Dear god, talk about a caste turd...he was laughing histerically at the possibility of an undefeated BYU playing for the nation title. Kirk Herbstreit vehemently suggested that if BYU runs the table, that they play for the title.

Cougars Receive Highest AP Ranking since 1996 Season

PROVO, Utah (Sept. 13, 2009) â€" Following a 54-3 victory at Tulane on
Saturday, BYU moved to No. 7 in The Associated Press Top 25 and No. 9
in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches' Poll released Sunday.

The Cougars advanced two places in AP and three spots in the
coaches' poll. BYU's No. 7 ranking in the AP Top 25 is the program's
highest AP ranking since finishing the 1996 season at No. 5. The
Cougars enter the top 10 in the coaches' poll again after earning a
ranking as high as No. 7 last season.

Three Mountain West Conference teams are ranked in the top 25 in
both polls with TCU (1-0) and Utah (2-0) joining BYU in each poll this
season. In the latest rankings, TCU is ranked No. 15 in both polls,
while AP ranks Utah at No. 16 and the coaches' give the Utes a No. 18
ranking.

With a 2-0 record, the Cougars are now 150-44 when ranked in the
Top 25 and have won 19 of their last 22 games as a ranked team, dating
back to 2006.

Last week BYU made one of the largest jumps in the polls in more
than 30 years, going from No. 20 to No. 9 in the AP Top 25 and from No.
24 to No. 12 in the coaches' poll after a 14-13 victory over No. 3
Oklahoma. Notre Dame and UCLA both leaped 12 spots in the AP poll in
1998 and 1976, respectively, one spot more than BYU's 11-position jump
last week.

Florida tops the AP Top 25 released Sunday, followed by Texas, USC,
Alabama and Mississippi. Penn State is ranked No. 6, with BYU,
California, LSU and Boise State rounding out the top 10. The top four
teams are identical in the coaches' poll, followed by Penn State,
Mississippi, LSU, California, BYU and Boise State. Oklahoma is ranked
No. 12 in both polls after bouncing back from its loss to BYU by
pounding Idaho State 64-0 on Saturday.

The Cougars will take on Florida State (1-1) on Saturday in LaVell
Edwards Stadium in Provo, Utah. Saturday's game will be broadcast live
on VERSUS beginning at 5 p.m. MT.

BYU finished the season 10-2 and will be headed to the Las Vegas Bowl for the 5th time in a row. Scout.com is projecting them to play against Stanford, which would be a cool game in my view.

Yesterday's game against Utah included a lot of fireworks, most of them coming after the last second TD catch by TE Andrew George. QB Max Hall went on record during the post-game press conference as saying that he hates Utah and everything about the football team and university. Well, the Utah press has been all over the story since then. Here's one story I just found, written by a local sports radio host.

Monson: There's too much hate in BYU-Utah rivalry

By Gordon Monson

The Salt Lake Tribune

Updated:11/29/2009 05:00:24 PM MST

Max Hall's postgame I-hate-Utah comments triggered strong and immediate
and emotional pushback from both Utah and BYU fans, many of whom tossed
more fuel -- and irony -- into the burning cauldron of rivalry
loathing.

But maybe there are positives that could come out of all the back and forth.

Some hated Hall for hating them, saying there was no place for hate in football.

Some called Hall classless for calling them classless, scolding anyone who would use such a designation.

And some defended Hall, claiming he was accurate and courageous,
even, in openly stating the truth about the raucous behavior of Utah
fans put on BYU innocents.

"I don't like Utah," Hall said. "In fact, I hate them. I hate
everything about them. I hate their program, I hate their fans, I hate
everything.... I think the whole university, their fans and their
organization, is classless. They threw beer on my family and stuff last
year, and they did a whole bunch of nasty things, and I don't respect
them, and they deserve to lose."

Didn't we all see Michael Young, Chris Hill and Spence Eccles out
there manning the bucket brigade at Rice-Eccles last season, dumping
contraband Budweiser on Hall's family after the BYU quarterback threw
five interceptions in that Ute victory?

I swear I did.

No I didn't, but I was told by a credible source that Kyle
Whittingham's wife, Jamie, was hit by somebody down on the field after
Saturday's game at Edwards Stadium.

Look, Hall's comments were too all-fired comprehensive. He hates
Utah, he thinks the whole university is classless because some fans are
idiots?

There was a lot of anger and frustration built into those words,
not just because of the way his family was treated, but because
thereafter, for a full year, Hall had been the punchline to jokes about
his six turnovers and their part in a BYU loss. He had been ripped and
ridiculed, and now he was firing back.

He may yet apologize. He may not.

But Hall, a senior who has been interviewed thousands of times at
BYU, meant what he said when he said it. He said it and he fully
intended to say it.

He hates Utah.

E-mail and other feedback responding to my column on Hall's remarks in Sunday's Tribune ,
an editorial that did not castigate him, but that said he was wrong in
his comprehensive spraying of hate, was as sweeping as Hall's original
comments.

A small sampling of an extremely large volume:

"Max Hall is a jerk. He says he hates Utah. I hate him. I hate BYU. That school is filled with hypocrites." - Steve

"No, he probably shouldn't have said those things, but I don't
blame him at all. There are very few true U fans. Most of them are
actually just BYU haters." - Amy

"Hall is a whiny b----, just like all Cougars and their fans." - no name

"We also know that your [sic] classless and your column could go
today and everyone would be happy. You are the lousiest sports writer
in Utah's history." - Rod.

"What a baby Max is. Why is it that BYU players are always the ones
saying stupid things. I hate that place. Talk about classless." - Tom.

"MORGAN SCALLEY MADE SIMILAR COMMENTS IN 2004 WITHOUT CRITICISM. YOU NEED TO CALL IT BOTH WAYS." - Mark.

"You're wrong Monson. ...Go into a BYU-Utah game at Utah wearing
blue next year and see how you enjoy it. You will agree with Hall after
they pour beer on you. Oh yea [sic], I forgot, the language you have to
tolerate all around you. Gutter talk does not quite describe what a BYU
fan has to endure. Actually, it is categorized by the law as assault."
- Don.

"Maybe someone should remind the self-righteous, egotistical
quarterback at the school down south of the alumni presentation at the
classless university a couple of weeks ago. Oh that was just for
President Thomas S. Monson. Maybe Max knows him and could get a lesson
in humility from him. Lots of luck in the NFL, Maxi." - Ron.

"Add another 'classless' butthead to Hall's list - you." - Clark.

Yeah, there's plenty of hate to go around.

Maybe, just maybe, everyone can learn from this whole thing. Maybe
everyone can learn that there really is too much animosity and
antipathy, too much bitterness and nastiness, too much malice and
rancor in this rivalry.

Too much hatred. Too much hatred mixed with religion.

There's guilt on both sides in this state, the red and the blue.

Nobody has to join hands and sing Kumbaya, but real hating, even in
limited doses, on the other guys is ridiculous. Perhaps everybody can
pull back and get this thing under control.

It's more likely, sadly, that it will go the other way, and Hall's
words about hate will generate more hate. When I sat directly in front
of him and heard them come out of his mouth, it reminded me of the
quote spoken by that great philosopher Yoda.

"Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering."

When it comes to this sometimes-glorious, sometimes-pathetic
rivalry, haven't both Cougars and Utes and everyone around them
suffered enough?

Eh I would hate to see them in the Las Vegas bowl against Stanford. Both teams should get a chance to play some darker competition to prove that a mostly White team can compete and win. I know both teams have proved that but it wouldn't hurt to see it again heh.

If it did happen it would be an interesting matchup and fun to watch, but I don't think many would tune in to see it.

I thought Stanford had a good enough record to make it to a bigger bowl though?Edited by: dwid
