Katelynas a 6-9, 225 player out of Chattanooga won the college dunk contest last night. OK not the most known event known to man but I was impressed by his fluid athleticism. Want to bet announcers did not say squat about his leaping abilitythe few times UTC was on TV. And I understand he pulled down 21 boards in the conference tournament. He is from Lithuania and has bounced around a bit. Have not heard his name in NBA draft talk but he sure has the raw physical talent.

He has to get a chance at the nba.He is 6'9 and can
jump out of the gym.Good luck to him in the draft.
Here is a link about the contest with pictures of him
dunking. He did a baseline dunk,a dunk from the free
throw line, and a lob pass to himself where he went
between the legs and dunked. He had 2 perfect scores!

That was a wonderful surprise. Now we can put this year's
NBA Slam Dunk Contest behind us. He didn't miss a dunk. He
basically out-smarted and out-worked everybody else. The
other finalist blew it by taking 30 seconds to do one dunk. Duh.
It was a fine performance.

I couldn't help but notice that Brad Nessler was very "low key"
in his compliments. "Steady" and "consistent" are the two I
remember. He was right, of course, but his enthusiasm was far
from overwhelming.

Also, I was channel-surfing the ESPN channels this morning to
see if I could get a little more coverage of it. Nothing. One
brief highlight in the Top Ten Plays. Nothing on ESPNews or
Cold Pizza.

Sounds he was greeted with the same deafening silence that Jeremy Wariner's gold in the 400 evoked. . .

If anyone locates a clip of the contestplease post here.

So I watched Around the Horn and PTI yesterday- I know,
really annoying shows, but I wanted to see if they would
mention this- and still nothing. (And Wilbon and Kornheiser
love basketball. I believe their second topic was the Pacers.
Who cares about the friggin' Pacers?) Other than the
aforementioned brief clip, it was a complete ESPN "blackout."
They made a big fuss about the college slam dunk competition
last year, even saying that it was better than the NBA contest.
(That is true. It was a good one.) But none of these shows
even briefly mentioned this year's contest. Too busy talking
about Lance Armstrong's bike mechanic, I guess.

Earlier today they replayed this year's high school three
point and dunk contests, and after that they replayed last
year's
college three point and dunk contests. I don't get it.

What is not to get.It disproves the myth so they don't
want to keep showing it.We can't have an athletic white
guy doing Kobe Bryant Dunks now can we?It will ruffle
some feathers and make some people uneasy.Damn am I
pissed off.I didn't even get to wee it live or on tape!
I remember about 7 or 8 years ago,there was a white guy
who won the college dunk contest, and I think his name
was like Herb the elevator/can't recall his name.He won
it by dunking over a ball rack.He never made the nba.Go
figure. There are alot more whites that can jump out of
the gym that seem to disapear.Where was David Lee in
this years contest? It is for seniors in college and he
is a senior.Lee won the nat'l high school slam dunk and
didn't even get invited to compete here!What a joke.The
thing I like best is that Pugh who got beat is considered
to be the best dunker in the nation for college kids.I
guess not!He got showed up by a white guy who we can't
even pronounce his name.lol.This kid better get a chance
to get drafted!

I was being sarcastic, WL. They are showing it again though.
I'm actually watching it right now. So at least they've done that.
But it's still odd that it was not mentioned at all on any of those
shows. PTI has a "wrap up" section at the end of the show
where they make a brief comment about a topic, literally a few
seconds, and they didn't even stick it in there. College
basketball is supposed to be a huge deal and yet an ESPN
show can't devote five seconds to it's slam dunk contest.

I just got done watching it myself today. He was very
impressive even dunking from the free throw line. That
one guy from Mercer really got on my nerves. He brought
the bad behavior to it's worst in a contest like this.
Pugh had some good dunks but clearly,Mindaugus deserved
to win. What a classy guy.He took a bow to every corner
of the crowd. Some people might think that was nerdy but
it was a show of class in my opinion. This kid can play
by the 21 rebounds he had in one game. They should call
him the Lithuania Leaper!lol.Great contest.

I agree, WL. And he wasn't even original. He just copied
Terrell Owens. It was just plain pathetic.Too bad for him that
it was a dunk contest, and not an "act like the biggest idiot" or
bodybuilding contest. Then he would've won hands down.
