The Vikings had three very capable white receivers on their roster last preseason and of course cut each of them. This year Kansas City has Marc Boerigter, Chris Horn, and John Booth. Each of them is very talented. In fact, for a team with a great need for wide receivers, they should be right in the mix to be starters. But of course that isn't how it works.

Booth had a 47 yard catch last night (no one else on the team had more than 16 yards in receiving), which included a nice little run after the reception. With the team on the 5, he then made a really nice TD grab.

Booth was a star QB at a small football program who converted to WR. He did very well in NFL Europe this past season. He's from the Kansas City area, which of course means nothing.

Every black, no matter how pedestrian, who is in the Chiefs camp as a receiver is being hyped as a "sleeper" for a starting position, while the three talented white guys are studiously ignored, even Boerigter. Chris Horn's a nice receiver, but Booth looks to have more potential. Booth and Boerigter starting in '05? Ha, ha, ha.

Don,

As you probably know, I'm a big fan of Boerigter's. This guy came out
of nowhere in the last 6 or 7 games of his rookie season to score 8 TDs
(including a 99 yarder) on only 20 receptions. His ypc was through the
roof. He has great size and speed, and as those games down the stretch
proved, he has a knack for the big play. I watched in amazement (why, I
now wonder) as he was virtually ignored by the media following the
blistering finish to his rookie season. He was not considered for a
starting job the next year, even though KC had two aging, pedestrian
starters and an obvious need to upgrade their receiving corps.
Boerigter barely saw the ball that season. Then, of course, he was
injured before last season began, and now he will apparently be cut.
How obvious does this stuff have to be, before the mass of sports fans
comprehend it? I tried to talk about this subject to friends and family
members at a fantasy football draft yesterday, but most of them just
don't get it. Seems pretty clear to me; bigger, faster players are
supposed to be more attractive options and coaches should want to play
them. But, I guess that's what decades of brainwashing does to people.

Dick Vermeil is right there with Joe Gibbs, George Seifert, Jim Haslett, Parcells and other big name coaches who are fully in synch with theban on white talent players. Plus he weeps on camera too much
