Since 2005, Pitt has started 8, 8, 8, 9, 9, 11, 11, 10, 9, 7, 8, 6, 10, 4, 6, and 6 Whites. They are currently projected to start 5 in 2022.

Despite all the outstanding White football talent in Western Pennsylvania and Pennsylvania, Ohio and New Jersey in general, Pitt like Penn State never recruits or plays Whites at receiver and running back, and on defense there’s only the rare occasional linebacker or lineman. This year’s Pitt team looks like most of the others during head coach Pat Narduzzi’s reign, with the White starters clustered at QB, TE and OL.

Pitt’s 2021 season was its best since the early 1980s when Jackie Sherrill was head coach and the Panthers were right in the mix for the national title for several years. Last year Pitt went 11-2, winning the ACC championship before losing to Michigan State in the Peach Bowl (or whatever corporate name it goes by these days).

The big news for the 2022 season happened just today as Narduzzi announced that Kedon Slovis will be the team’s starting quarterback to begin the season, succeeding Kenny Pickett. Slovis transferred to Pitt from USC. His main competition was another White QB, Nick Patti.

Starters:

QB: Kedon Slovis
TE: Gavin Bartholomew
C: Owen Drexel
RG: Jake Kradel
RT: Gabe Houy

On defense, tackle Devin Danielson is the only paleface on the two-deep. He was listed as a starter for the ’21 season but has since been demoted.

No White receivers and of course no White RBs on the three deep.
