BOULDER, Colo. (AP) -- Police arrested a University of Colorado football player early Saturday in connection with two assaults in the second arrest of a CU football player in two days.

<TD></TD></TR></T></T></TABLE>Tight end Riar Geer, 21, was being held on suspicion of second-degree assault and harassment after a fight outside a party late Friday, police said. Bond was expected to be set Sunday.

Hunter Wright and Alexander Williams, 19, told police they were confronted by a suspect who knocked a hat from their friend's head. A verbal dispute turned violent, police said. Officers called to the scene around 11:52 p.m. Friday found both teens bleeding from their mouths.

Police said Wright and Williams both identified Geer as their attacker. Police said they found Geer about 15 minutes later with cuts above his eyebrow and on his hand.

On Friday, 18-year-old Lynn Katoa, a freshman linebacker, turned himself in for investigation of second-degree assault stemming from a party on Feb. 16.

Katoa was suspended from competition but can still practice. Geer, a third-year sophomore from Grand Junction, was suspended from football, including practice.

"It's unfortunate we've had these instances back-to-back, and once again, I do not condone our players engaging in this kind of conduct," coach Dan Hawkins said in a written statement. "We will continue to engage them through several orientations and presentations on how to be first class in every phase of their lives."

Bud Peterson, chancellor for CU-Boulder, said the school would not tolerate violent behavior.

In 2004, CU athletic programs were placed under the oversight of academic leaders as part of far-reaching reforms enacted after a sex-and-booze recruiting scandal in the football program.

"These reforms have been enacted with enthusiasm and passion by the leadership and the staff of intercollegiate athletics. We can ill afford to see our hard work and shared values undone by poor choices on the part of even a small number of our student-athletes," Peterson said.

Athletic director Mike Bohn said he was extremely disappointed by the arrests while also noting violence as a greater societal issue.

Existing programs for CU student-athletes include violence experts and psychologists to help them understand their responsibility for proper behavior, Bohn said.

"It has not been successful, so obviously we've got to enhance our education efforts but also discipline, rehabilitative efforts and also our dismissals," he said.

Bohn said Hawkins has been in contact with players since Katoa's arrest, but a meeting Monday will be the first with the whole team.

When asked what he hoped players would hear, Bohn said: "I think there's no doubt, they understand the investment made in them as young people, and they're viewed as leaders at this university. They can at times be targets, but they must clearly understand the high expectations we have of them and our demand for activities and actions like this to stop, for them to understand the severe consequences associated with it.

"It's counterproductive to our efforts to build this program and this university to an even higher world-class status." Edited by: Colonel_Reb
