Ereck Plancher, a freshman wide receiver from Naples, Fla., was pronounced dead shortly before noon Tuesday at a hospital, says school spokesman Joe Hornstein.

Hornstein says Plancher apparently took a knee during conditioning at the school in Orlando, Fla. He became unresponsive and was taken by ambulance to the hospital, Hornstein said.

The school was scheduled to begin spring practice Wednesday.

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - Central Florida cornerback Johnell Neal was injured during a shooting in his hometown of Baton Rouge, La.

Photos His condition wasn't immediately clear, the university said. Coach George O'Leary said he spoke with Neal and the player's mother.

A phone message left with Baton Rouge police was not immediately returned Friday.

Neal graduated from UCF last week and was expected to start work on another bachelor's degree this summer.
