With Favre's retirement, the NFL can focus even more attention on mentally/physically superior black quarterbacks.

Man, I was hoping he'd stay in for another year or two. He's still got plenty left. Thanks for being a hard-nosed, tough player.

I think he was just saying the Rodgers is at at this time an unknown quantity, too inexperienced to make a call on right now.

Aaron Rodgers comported himself extremely well in a high pressure playoff game against the Dallas Cowboys. In my opinion he even showed more composure than Favre and helped the Packers with his performance instead of hindered them. I think he'll be just fine - if given the chance.

I think Rodgers will do well, too.The drunk white fans seem to often have low expectations for white QBs, evenones picked in the first round as Rodgers was.

Favre had a great career and I'm sad to see it end. He went out near the top which is to his credit.

You guys know how I feel about Favre. While I agree with Don that the jock-sniffers have been obsessed for the past few years with the "when is he gonna retire" mantra, much of this has been Favre's fault. Never has any player in any sport left his team up in the air over and over again, as he contemplates whether or not to retire. Last year was particularly ridiculous, with Favre not even being considerate enough to let the Packers know before the draft, so that they could plan accordingly.

Now, we have the game's best-known and most (perhaps only) beloved white player basing his decision to retire primarily on the failure of his team to pursue Randy Moss. What a lovable player- a guy who is so enamored with one of the game's most odious black thugs that he is willing to retire when his team doesn't go after him. Yes, I know Favre is claiming that wasn't the reason, but he was lusting after Moss last season and I don't think it's a coincidence that he made this decision right after the Patriots resigned Moss. Now maybe if Favre was demanding the Packers sign Wes Welker... but we all know that would never happen.

I respect every one here, and know I may be in the minority on Favre. However, I just don't think he is the kind of player I can support. The fact that the same racist jock-sniffers who hate every other white player seem to worship Favre is not exactly an impressive testimonial, in my view. Given his anti-white track record, if he ever became a coach I'm 100% certain that he'd be a Jack Del Rio-type of Caste clown.

Perectly stated. I respect Favre, I don't like him as a person in the least. He seems to be arrogance personified.

Ditto, I will miss seeing him on the field this year. But don't be suprised if he justs sits out a year and decides to come back. Physically he can still play the game at a elite level which he more than proved last year.If he does come back, since he's retired, does he have to come back to the same team?

I don't know, Favre would turn 40 during the '09 season. That's pretty old to come back after sitting out a year. 39 seems to be the age at which a lot of good quarterbacks noticeably decline, another reason Favre looks smart to be going out now while he's still on top of his game.

Kinda the way Roger Staubach went out. He was on the top of his game as well but 11 concussions over the course of his career made his decision for him.Edited by: guest301

Favre's Iron Man record is one of the greatest accomplishments in sports history, right up there with Lou Gehrig and Cal Ripken when it comes to toughness and perseverance. Peyton Manning has a shot at breaking it but he still has a long way to go.

You can forget those rumors about Favre un-retiring as the Packers are going to retire his number in their Monday Night season opener. Seems to me at least part of the front office's motivation in announcing this already is to make sure Favre doesn't think of playing again. They had been considering jettisoning him before the past couple of seasons and moving ahead with Aaron Rodgers, so maybe for whatever reasons there was a certain amount of relief when Brett made his retirement announcement.

GB has some top-notch personnel calling the shots right now, ie; Mike McCarthy , Ted Thompson (GM) &amp; Mark Murphy (new prez &amp; CEO), and I liked what I saw when Rodgers came in to mop up another Favre f*ck up @ Dallas. I'm pretty</span> confident that McCarthy can get Rodgers to the next level.

BUT......I just saw some disturbing news that might free up a lot of Sundays:

Every NFL franchise now has to have at least the occasional black backup at QB, otherwise the eyebrows of the system's thought police get raised. I see it as an affirmation of the obvious -- that Culpepper is no longer seen by any team in the leagueas a potential starter.

Well, when he was good those years Culpepper had Moss (probably the best WR in the league) and more mobility before tearing two knee ligaments more than 2 years ago.
Culpepper was probably somewhere in the average range back then when you count his inconstancy and having the aid of Randy Moss. But now he seems washed up since his knee injury.

The league must around 20% black at QB now. Blacks are only 13% of the U.S population demographics, so why such a high percentage of black QBs? Apparently the caste system thinks blacks are better than whites at QB too.

70%:13% should be should be about a 5.4:1 ratio. The NFL is about 80% white at QB tops and about 20% black; that's 4:1. Where oh where are all the Mestizo Hispanic QBs? I guess they aren't wanted like the blacks; they're only wanted for baseball!

They're putting Favre on the cover of Madden. The linked article discusses the so-called Madden curse and Favre's placement on the cover now that he is retired.

Brett Favre gets the Madden curse
