Lemaitre, Gemeli and Guliyev all in the final, Hortelano consistent again and not far away from this class at all. This is already the best result we've had for as long as I can remember. I'm so pleased for Lemaitre that his speed/ speed endurance seems to be back - it's been a while
Gemili and Guliyev into the finals along with Lemaitre. All 3 are about at the same level; maybe Lemaitre a little better than G & G. Hortelano looked pretty good, but his time wasn't quite as fast. Herrera disappointed, after looking so good in the heats. Anyway, 3 white guys in an Olympic Sprint final is awesome! Actually, really awesome!
Thompson ran relaxed, great bend, Schippers came back beautifully but just started to tie up a little - but 21.88 is still a smashing time. Great for her after that groin strain. Proves again she's one of the all time greats already. Huge gap after first and second
Lane ATHLETE COUNTRY SB 2016 PB 1 Ramil Guliyev TUR 20.09 19.88 2 Adam Gemili GBR 20.07 19.98 3 Alonso Edward PAN 20.04 19.81 4 Andre De Grasse CAN 19.80 19.80 5 LaShawn Merritt USA 19.74 19.74 6 Usain Bolt JAM 19.78 19.19 7 Christophe Lemaitre FRA 20.01 19.80 8 Churandy Martina NED 20.10 19.85 great lane for Christophe, COME ON !!!
interesting to note each lane is a different national represenative. No trio of U'S' or Jamaicans this time
Lanes 1 and 2 for Guyliyev and Gemili. They have no chance from there, but at least they're in the finals. Lemaitre has a GREAT lane for him. He has an outside chance for the bronze medal if he really puts it together. His turn running is terrible, but luckily Lane 7 doesn't have much of a curve. Fingers crossed.
I agree. This is a fight for the bronze. I think Bolt and Merritt will battle for 1st and 2nd. Degrasse has spent himself and will get in the 20.0x range. I'm betting on Guyliev and Lemaitre for 3rd in 19.9x. A dream come true none the less. There has been a one white person rule in the world championship/olympics ever since the '84 olympics. To have 3 white guys in the finals, stupendous!
Christophe ran 10.46 - 9.55 = 20.01, 3rd faster time of his carrer his first part is too slow, he can run 10.35 - 10.40, his second part is fantastic between 100M and 110M Christophe is bad, he lost time, He said that he have made an error Meritt ran 10.37 - 9.57. Christophe can run 10.35 - 9.53 = 19.88 BASIC TIME it will depend of his first part
I dont agree that Degrasse has spent himself, I think it will be Bolt, Degrasse and either Merrit or Lemaitre (if he can build on this race)....I am happy to see him looking more like his oldself. Hortelano proved he can hang with the big boys and I am elated he left Blake in his rear view mirror. This kid is gonna be a good one! Schippers is as tough as nails...who really know how bad the groin strain was and how much it hampered her, especially her start tonight, better start she wins....period. I will give Thompson credit she ran a very good race to win. Lalova definetly a hurting lady tonight....but give her credit for going after it.
I'm so pumped to see 3 of our guys we root for make the 200 meter finals in the olympics. What a difference from the 100 meters where none of them made it. Congrats to Lemaitre, Guliyev and Gemeli for qualifying. Very sad to see Dafne Schippers fall a little short. She still made up proud with the silver medal. To show how dominant she was this year over 200 meters, she ran 5 or the 7 fastest times in 2016. Just fell a little short tonight but she is an inspiration to the Dutch and to all of Europe. I should also add to americans.
The last time 3 white men were in the Olympic 200m final was 1984! So this already a very good result!
I don't think Degrasse is done either. A medal for sure. Slim as a whippet, cool and confident. I think it a slim chance Merrit might be a possibility of not medalling
The high jump is a good caste buster. I've told people who repeat the "white man can't jump" lie about how well we do in the high jump and often get a dumb ass does not compute look. So many people are just really ignorant about most things and simply repeat what they've heard somewhere. Some DWF's aren't "drunk" white fans, they're just "dumb" white fans.
Point taken--I guess it is the title of the movie that gets under my skin and the media rode with it.. Thanks for the clarification and apologies to the director.
can someone explain what actually happened with Felix in the relay? Did the Brazilian girl actually clip Felix or was she actually in Felix's lane? I have not seen any video that has been slowed down enough to show anything/incident. Thanks....
yes. The Brazilian was starting to run and moving raggedly side to side. Her arm impeded Felix' body enough to twist her torso and pull her baton hand well off line - no good at all when exercising a tricky move at full speed. If justice was done the U.S. would certainly be in the final but there are only 8 lanes on this Rio track. (added later) - just heard an update. The U.S will amazingly run a time trial and will (definitely) knock China, at 42.70 the slowest qualifier, out of the final. Can't believe Felix had the presence of mind to tell Gardiner to pick up the baton and finish the race. She remembered from previously that appeals are more likely to succeed if an effort is made to finish. Smart lady
I kind of feel bad for the Chinese women who had "earned" their way to the final only to be bumped out by the USA in their rerun. On the other hand if Felix isn't impeded China woul;d not have made it anyways. would rather the Chinese had hung on to beat Canada and moved forward and I am Canadian..lol Does anyone here think if it was another country they would have the same opportunity as the US? I doubt it...
In the WTF category, I just watched a man win a women's 800m semi-final heat. Kenya's Margaret Wambui is clearly a man, but a Google search revealed "she" is "intersexual". Also said he's 20, but he looks about 35.
If the same thing happened to someone else, the same video evidence confirmed it and they made an effort to finish, I don't doubt it
Congrats to Christophe and Coach Carraz, Bronze medal, nice and motivating. He can go faster. I think he will, believe it or not. My apologies to RCSMAN.
