Shamrock/Baroni

Who do you guys think is going to win Shamrock/Baroni?

I Will root for Shamrock but think Barroni cleans his clock.

Ken's stronger and I'd give him the edge on the ground. However, Baroni's a much better striker and has the quickness edge. It's tough to call, but I'm pulling for Shamrock. If this was the Ken Shamrock from the mid-90's, he'd wipe the mat with Baroni. However, I'd give Phil a slight edge.

This match is FRANK Shamrock versus Phil Baroni. Not Ken Shamrock against Phil Baroni. Frank is Ken's mestizo step brother. He's also a major assh_le. So basically guest301 and DixieDestroyer are rooting for the white guy in this fight to lose to a mestizo assh_loe.

This Strikeforce show is going to be way better than UFC 72 which was total crap. But you guys probably won't like it. There are what, 4 white guys total on the entire Strikeforce card?

I still laugh about Colonel Callahan talking about how he was going to start watching PRIDE. As if international MMA had more white guys and less corruption. He had it exactly backwards. Less white guys, more corruption, the whole show was run by the Yakuza before the Fertitta brothers bought it. Regular worked matches, regular shows with only 4 or 5 white guys out of 20 fighters total.

Maybe if you guys were long time fans of MMA and did not just discover it 2 years ago because of a reality show, you'd realize how ridiculous you sound. Frank Shamrock was even the UFC 200 pound champion at one point, but it's obvious I'm the only person here who even knows that.

Yeah, I have to agree with you. I bartend in a local NJ nightclub and I see guys like Phil Baroni all the time where I work. He's the typical loud-mouthed, guido, wanna-be mafioso type. This is the same kind of idiot that slams their keys on the bar really loudly upon first arriving, so all the girls see the emblem on the keychain, displaying what kind of car he drives. In my opinion, people like this should be exterminated at birth. He makes me ashamed to be half-Italian.

I'll be going for Baroni simply because he is of European descent. I have to admit though I've seen a few of his interviews and agree that he appears to be an A-1 A**HOLE.

IMO, it's hard to find a reason to root for either of these guys, outside of race. Frank is an a**hole, and is a dirty fighter. In his last fight he deliberately hit Renzo Gracie in the back of the head on the neck, obvious enough that Frank lost by DQ. (Yes, I watched the fight and thought it was deliberate on Frank's part. It was obvious. I don't know if Renzo could have continued, but having been hit in the back of the neck before during training, I know it will f*** you up, too.)

As far as predictions go, Frank hasn't been very active at all in the last few years, but I think if he is anything like he was in the old days, he wins going away.

I thought UFC 72 was decent, btw. The Guida v Tyson fight was awesome. The main event, however, definitely left something to be desired.

Nevada, thanks for the clarification. I'm not a fan of Frank or Baroni (both seem arrogant), so I don't have a dog in the fight. Fyi, I've been watching MMA since the first UFC. However, I now (currently) only watch UFC, IFL and Bodog. I love MMA in general.

Thanks for the correction. Rooting for Barroni now although I don't like him personally all that much. He might as well be black with all his trash talking and dancing toward the ring.

It was an interesting fight. They came out and went after each other, Baroni landing the early barrage but it didn't phase Shamrock. After that, Shamrock dominated the standup. He rocked Baroni several times, sent him to the canvas and jumped on him. But Shamrock hit Baroni in the back of the head a couple times while trying to secure a choke and the ref stopped the action to deduct one point from Shamrock. Baroni was given very little time to recover, and was very lucky to escape the round.

At the beginning of the second they exchanged a few more, and Baroni appeared to hurt Shamrock with some body shots. But Shamrock continued to land hard shots and eventually Baroni went down. Shamrock jumped on him and after a bit of grappling secured an ugly rear naked choke that had Baroni out with his eyes open. The ref stopped the fight and Baroni's body shuddered and heaved trying to breathe. It was ugly.

They were some other good fights on the show. The much-heralded match up between Le Cung and Tony Fryklund was a tad disappointing. Cung owned Fryklund throughout and won by TKO.

Ninja Rua won by TKO over Joey Villasenor in a hard fought match that had both guys hurt and throwing bombs.

Paul Buentello won by TKO over black fighter Carter Williams. Buentello had this to say after the fight: "Yeah, they're always trying to keep us down, but I was here to represent! Viva la raza!!" I'm just wondering who 'they' is, the white man, the black man, or both...

Duane 'Bang' Ludwig was out-Muay Thai'd by Paul Daley, losing by TKO. Daley is a black fighter who is the Cage Rage champion in England.

Pretty good event, I'd say worth the PPV price.

Surprisingly, Shamrock dominated on the ground and especially the stand up. Even more amazing because Shamrock supposedly had a serious knee injury a week ago. I couldn't tell about the knee because he was very mobile and threw alot of knees from the clinch. Overall,good fight, IMO.

What do you think, Triad, was Frank's claim of injury B.S. gamesmanship? Setting up an excuse if he lost?

I used to be a huge Frank Shamrock fan, but as I have seen more interviews he comes across as a Georgous George clone.Anway while I respect his skills and knowledge, San Jose can have him. Also his biggest test could be the pee pee test on Friday night. He looked real buff........
