De La Salle's 151 game record won't be broken by the South Panola Tigers (Batesville, Mississippi), who lost to the Meridian High School Wildcats in the MHSAA 5A State Championship game last night in overtime 26-20. South Panola's last loss came against Wayne County (24-14)in the 2002 5A Championship game. They have won 5 state titles during their streak.

From a Caste perspective, Meridian ismostly black as is SP, so I really don't care too much. I'm just glad the streak is over.

Another huge Caste game goes in our favor! This is definitely the biggest Caste game in the country so far this season. South Panola, an almost all black team, was beaten last night at home 21-19 by Memphis Unversity School, an almost all white team. That was SP's first home loss since November 2001. MUS is a private school in Memphis and is considered the top Tennessee program. SP, a public school in Batesville, is considered the top Mississippi program. MUS has now won 16 games in a row.

In related news, Mississippi private schools (almost all white) are 6-5 versus public schools (mostly black) this year!

BATESVILLE, Miss. -- When Memphis University School scored its
second touchdown of the second quarter to take a 21-0 lead against
Mississippi powerhouse South Panola on Friday, it seemed as if all of
Batesville stood still.

A stunned home crowd simply watched in awe as visiting MUS managed
to hold off South Panola, 21-19, and hand the Tigers their first home
loss since November of 2001.

The Owls (3-0), ranked No. 1 in The Commercial Appeal's Dandy Dozen,
scored two second-quarter touchdowns, then withstood a furious rally by
a South Panola team ranked No. 1 in Mississippi by The Associated Press.

It wasn't until South Panola quarterback Lee Self's pass attempt on
fourth-and-10 from the Tigers' 18-yard-line sailed incomplete that MUS
could celebrate its 16th straight victory.

South Panola (2-1) had scored 19 unanswered points to pull within
two points of tying the game with 6:35 left in the third quarter, but
MUS' defense held on a potential game-tying two-point conversion
attempt.

"It was a situation where they could have taken the game. But we
just somehow managed to fight back and make the plays we had to make,"
MUS coach Bobby Alston said. "This doesn't happen very often, and it's
a credit to their program.

"I'm proud of our guys. They worked hard."

MUS had built a 21-0 lead by midway through the second quarter after
senior quarterback Barry Brunetti found senior teammate Stephond
Allmond on back-to-back touchdown tosses.

Allmond's first, a 41-yard reception, helped make it 14-0. A
possession later, the senior scatback took a screen pass from Brunetti
21 yards for another score.

"It was a great win. We had our ups and downs, but we came out with
the victory," said Allmond, who caught six passes for a game-high 152
receiving yards.

MUS senior kicker Christian Kauffman got the Owls on the board with
10:23 left in the first, after MUS had scooped up a Dominique
Carothers' fumble on South Panola's second play from scrimmage.

A quarter later, Kauffman tacked on a 29-yard field goal to give MUS a 6-0 lead, but the Owls were just getting started.

Trailing, 21-0, with less than six minutes left in the first half,
South Panola went to a Wildcat-type offense, featuring Nicholas Parker
and Carothers running from the quarterback position. The adjustment
paid off, as Parker got South Panola on the board with a 3-yard
touchdown run, capping a 7-play, 44-yard drive.

In the third quarter, with MUS leading, 21-7, Parker burst loose for
a 50-yard touchdown run out of the Wildcat. A missed South Panola extra
point left the score at 21-13 before the Tigers tightened it to a
two-point game on their next possession on Parker's 8-yard scoring run.

Needing two points to tie, South Panola went for the two-point
conversion, but junior linebacker Henry Dickinson and senior linebacker
Eli Wilder stopped Parker short of the goal line, preserving MUS' 21-19
lead.http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2009/sep/05/1-mus-21-south-panola-19-owls-hang-on/
