Erdei punishes Blades; Arslan dethrones Brudov!

17.06.07 - Unbeaten WBO light heavyweight champion Zsolt Erdei (27-0, 17 KOs) scored a dominating eleventh round stoppage of George "Honey Boy" Blades (21-3, 15 KOs) on Saturday at the SYMA Arena in Budapest, Hungary. Erdei was very accurate with his full arsenal of punches as he methodically broke down his challenger.

Blades was staggered after a hard right in round six, but Erdei patiently stuck to his game plan, which was working flawlessly.Things heated up in the tenth when Blades tried to launch an aggressive attack, but Erdei continued to win the exchanges. In round eleven, referee Joe Cortez decided to step in and end the one-sided affair even though Blades didn't appear to be particularly hurt. Time was 2:27.

"The Firebird" successfully made his second defense in front of his native Hungarian fans and eighth defense overall. After the bout, Erdei was presented with a WBO ring by WBO President Paco Valcarcel.

Earlier, cruiserweight Firat Arslan (26-3-1, 18 KOs) dethroned WBA interim champion Valery Brudov (33-2, 25 KOs) via twelve round split decision to earn a shot at WBA titleholder Virgil Hill. Arslan pressed the action and seemingly was a clear winner although scores were 117-111, 116-112 for Arslan, 116-112 for Brudov.

Brudov collapsed during a break just before the final bell and was later stretchered to the hospital in an ambulance. Hill must face Arslan by October 15, 2007.

Unbeaten Olympian cruiserweight Alexander Alekseev (11-0, 10 KOs) demolished respectable Hector Alfredo Avila (16-8-1, 12 KOs) after just 2:32 of the first round. Alekseev wins the WBO Intercontinental championship and looks like a force to be reckoned with in the cruiserweight division.

Unbeaten super middleweight Karoly Balzsay (16-0, 12 KOs) knocked out Jose Hilton Dos Santos (24-8-1, 14 KOs) at 2:59 of round five.

Unbeaten heavyweight Dieter Roth (13-0, 8 KOs) won in round five when Vlado Szabo (1-23) was disqualified. Time was 1:41

Unbeaten super middleweight Dimitri Sartison (19-0, 13 KOs) scored a one-sided eight round nod over Mike Algoet (27-27-1, 11 KOs). Scores were 80-72, 80-73, 78-74.

As expected, junior featherweight prospect Zsolt Bedak (6-0) was victorious. The former amateur star TKO'd Kemal Plavci (3-19) at 1:49 of round two.

Local cruiser Gyorgy Hidvegi (14-1-1, 10 KOs) stopped Merick Roberge (18-6) at 2:39 of round two to claim the WBF belt.

Zsoldt is looking to line up a fight with Roy Jones yet. That might finally get him on U.S. TV.

Erdei victorious today

Dominated Abron. I had it 120-108 but then again I'm a bit biased

Zsolt could've stopped him late. He'd have more knockouts and be more exciting if he just let his hands go.

We went 2-0 in cast matches today.

Sergie Dzindziruk successfully defended his WBO junior middleweight belt and heavyweight Dennis Boytsov also won over black American Robert Hawkins.

Last night Andrey Tsurkan beat a white Hispanic to get in line for a shot at a belt at 154.

Barashian is Russian is he not?
Armenian-Ukranian. He's a good fighter, but I expect him to lose a decision to Erdei.

From Dan Rafael of ESPN

In January, FSN will likely air at least one of the bouts from a Jan. 10 card in Germany featuring light heavyweight titleholder Zsolt Erdei's defense against Yuri Barashian and super middleweight titleholder Denis Inkin's mandatory defense against Karoly Balzsay.

They showed Froch-Pascal on the Best Damn Sports Show Period a few weeks ago.Edited by: Blue Devils

Erdei will likely face WBA Champ Hugo Garay in a unification match or German Jurgen Brahmer.

This surprised me. Erdei is not a big guy and as far as I know, has no problem making weight.

But it will be an interesting fight!

So Erdei didn't [/i]need[/i] to move up, he just wanted a meaningful fight.

The racists and wiggers say Erdei's fought meaningless opposition, but the truth is he's wanted to face the "name" opponents, but people like Jones, Hopkins, Dawson, and Tarver have refused to fight him.

From fightnews.com

Unbeaten longtime WBO light heavyweight champion Zsolt Erdei (31-0, 17 KOs) dethroned WBC cruiserweight champion Giacobbe Fragomeni (26-2-1, 10 KOs) by twelve round majority decision on Saturday night at the Sparkassen Arena in Kiel, Germany. Erdei's speed was evident early on as he landed many sharp combinations. Fragomeni, however, applied intense pressure and connected more and more as the bout progressed. It became a battle attrition as both fighters landed good shots. Fragomeni closed stronger, however in the end scores were 114-114, 115-113, 115-113 for Erdei, who becomes the first Hungarian to win a world title in two weight divisions.

Fragomeni is a very tough fighter. He could give anyone in the cruiserweight division a run for their money. Good fight for Zsolt. I hope he goes after Jones at cruiser.

According to a Hungarian website there's talk of a Erdei-Tarver match in May. Zsolt's contract with Universum Box Promotions expires in June so they might try and cash out with this match. It's a shame Universum couldn't provide Erdei with a big fight during his reign

If this match happens it would finally be a nice payday for Erdei. He should be able to beat Tarver on hand speed alone.
