I know Tough is in love with this guy and Tulsa may not be a bad school for this young man, best of luck to him!

Yes, I started a thread on him not long ago, but it doesn't hurt to start a new one for his commitment decision.

With him picking Tulsa, I'd say he should be the best tailback on campus from day one. Langer and McDaniel are cream of the crop for 2011!

Tough I searched for a thread and did not find one on him so I started one because Langer is a special player that will be a star at the college level.

I agree that Langer (along with McDaniel) are special backs for 2011! The search engine doesn't always seem to work well when I use it- and my thread wasn't on the first page of this forum (it was page 2), so no worries.

If you're reading this in time, Fox Sports Southwest is showing the replay of this season's Oklahoma 6A state championship game between Jenks and Tulsa Union. The first half just ended. But Langer rushed for 130 yards in the second half. Jenks got beat badly by Union, which has their own great white RB in Colton Dost. Worth watching to see the talents of the player "soon to be screwed over by Tulsa".

I am new here but have been following the plight of white skill position players for about 22 years. Please dont be mad but I am being objective when I say Zach Langer is slightly overated. He seems very slow and looks like he has two take 3 or 4 steps to make a cut. I fear he is not going to get any playing time at Tulsa. I have seen Georgia High School standout Nile Knapp and this kid looks better than McGuffie on tape. He got royally screwed. My favorite high school rb was Glyndon Bolaski who although was Gatorade player of the year in Arizona and went To Arizona U. on scholarship did not get one carry in 4 years. We as fans of screwed over white skill players need to start calling out these mostly white recruiters and let them know the facts. We will not put up with this.

I would also like to say Cam McDaniel is a very good rb. I dont trust NC State and their recent recruitment of Anthony Knight. I suspect they want him to play safety. North Carolina State and North Carolina are notorious for their harsh treatment of white skill players. Look at Matt Merletti, a solid rb prospect moved to safety by North Carolina. The good news as I saw on North Carolinas official web site had Butch Davis talking about Hunter Furr and his incredible speed and their need to utilize it. He was listed as their 3rd string rb buy the interveiw sounded like they may even try to get him on the field as a wide out. North Carolina had a blazing fast receiver named Ian Firestone about 7 years ago and they screwed him over playing time wise and he wound up transferring to Penn State where he vanished. These two schools dont have a good track record for helping ouor guys out!

You just described 95% of all black high school runningbacks.
This site advocates equal treatment, not the irrational promotion of whites over blacks.
We've been the only watchdog group for high school football for years. I've seen too many 5'7" 165lb 4.65 black RBs get D1A scholarships, while record-setting white RBs with superior measurables remain completely invisible.
Go pick a few D1A schools at random. Chances are you'll find at least one of them with an offer to a black RB without Zack's performance pedigree. We want someone in the world of college football to answer for this. They never do, though. They fall back on caste-speak: High ceiling, loose hips, room brightening smile...

Riddlewire. I agree with you 100 percent. Langer is a good rb but is that going to be enough? Whites get such a short leash when it comes to performance. You almost have to be a Sam McGuffie to get a little leeway. Tre Smith finally got a chance to start at Auburn and his mostly black offensive line couldint block crap and in their first game Smith had no running room whatsoever. You could hear the DWFs booing every time Smith ran with the ball after the first quarter!

I disagree that it takes Langer 3 steps to make a cut. A cut is made in one step for any football player, but some are not good at cutting sharply (and most also take a step or in some cases even two to gear down a bit first). Langer looks like he gears down just a little with a "lazy step" and then can make a very nice sharp cut. Langer's style is more of an X-Y powerback anyway (more of a north/south- one cut and burst ahead style), but he has fabulous X-Y agility and still has solid X-Z swivel compared to FBS RBs his height. He has a tendency to quickly recognize a small seam and then makes a nice cut and explodes to the hole and then uses angles to make the most yards out of his run.

McGuffie and Knapp and probably Jake Sharp (hard to tell with Sharp b/c he has a strange style) are scatbacks, Langer and Gaffney and also former Cardinal Toby Gerhart trend toward the powerback category. With Wegher, Burkhead and Martinek it is hard to tell because they are true blends of both.

I would have to agree that Wegher wasn't making cuts as beautifully as he did playing for Bishop Helen H.S in Iowa. Wegher seemed to make great cuts in his first game against Iowa State, but then seemed to be a bit timid for some games and soon injured his ribs (he must have realized it isn't easy to move up to the FBS level). Wegher had an awesome game in the Orange Bowl though and will be in the top 3 RBs this year for Iowa. Worst case scenario he may wind up in a Kevin Faulk like role this year, but I expect him to be the featured guy sometime before his career at Iowa is up!Edited by: ToughJ.Riggins
