Many US white athletes who would have played skill positions in Football before the abomination known as the Caste system appeared, probably gravitated to soccer and to a lesser extent Lacrosse because of the Caste system. The US national soccer team never has a shortage of very fast white players. Of course, Donovan's speed and especially his acceleration are well known.

Many white soccer players are from football crazy states like those in the Southeast, Texas,PA, Ohio and California. They definitely had or (those still active) have the "athleticism" to play defensive back, WR, and RBs. Two are now at the end of their pro soccer careers who specifically come to mind are Josh Wolff and Clint Mathis both from Georgia. Wolff in his prime , had what I would describe as "world class soccer" speed. There are many current White American soccer players who could have played football. I don't know much about lacrosse but I've heard the skills required in lacrosse are very similar to required skills in offensive skill positions and defensive back in football.

I once had a brief combination with former NBA player Rick Fox. He attributed Steve Nash's 2 NBA MVP awards to his extensive soccer playing. IMHO; correct, high level footwork is the basis for success in all sports. Soccer relies on footwork more than other sports. My point is all of these very speedy white American soccer players, would IMO, definitely would've been successful in football had they been encouraged instead of strongly discouraged from seeking a career in pro football.

The extent that white HS football players know how much the deck is stacked against them,is clear when the sports pages news report , cases of white HS althletes who have D1 football scholarship offers, but choose lacrosse scholarships instead.

I'm curious to hear other CF members' opinions on this topic.

I guess its good if you like lacrosse and soccer, but id rather the ones who can play football to play football.
My Fiance's younger brother is a 14 year old in high school in colorado. 6'2 around 225 and still growing (his voice is cracking, i know when mine was like that i wasnt finished growing yet for a few years), and is an athletic freak, ive tried to encourage him to tryout for the football team, but he just wants to play lacrosse. I guess I consider it wasted talent, but if you are good enough I think you can get a scholarship to a college much easier an get a free education. I know if they were to play football there is the chance of going pro which could have you set for life. I dont know how much American Soccer leagues pay, or if there is even a professional lacrosse league.

Someone from Abram Booty's (football player) family made a comment to me on youtube (i posted stuff from here about how good he was at LSU and didnt get a shot at the pros, got a shot at nfl europe and declined)that hes doing quite well making 300,000 a year. Thats good money and all, but there were people he was better than in college that made alot more than that in one year.

So kids have to way in the risks/awards. On one hand they might get a scholarship way easier and be able to get a nice job and be financially stable the rest of their lives, or they can try football, may not even get a scholarship, and if they do they probably have a mentality that they wouldn't make it pro anyway, so in the end result they would just have the education, the same as if they played another sport. I don't blame this thinking or the choices, in the end its the college's and the pro football leagues that are missing out. All of this talent going to waste playing other sports.

I think in the long run its going to hurt football alltogether. People are going to get tired with the NFL with its all black rosters. The economy is getting worse and nobody is going to give a crap about some black football player that makes millions and cant behave properly or follow the laws. It should already be happening.

This is good news in a way because it suggests that athletic talent will often find an alternative form of expression.

Of course, there are also a great many athletes, frustarated by the caste system in their preferred sport who simply dropped out of sports.

I think more white players should play soccer. Soccer takes a lot of skill. I have seen Europeans laugh at American football because they say there is no skill. If you think about it, a running back has very little skill. A soccer players has to run full speed and control the ball with his feet instead of just carrying it. You also can be a great athlete who isn't that big and be a great player. You don't have to rely on size like in basketball and football. Players like Michael Owen and Wayne Rooney are about 5'8 or 5'9. Messi is about 5'6. You can also be 6'2 or 6'3. You have to be an all around athlete unlike the Shaqs. Many baseball, football and basketball could not play soccer at a high level.Peyton Manning, a great quarterback, could not play soccer. I would never have my child waste their time with basketball. If you are not a certain size, you can't play. That's why it is a stupid sport. Even football has a bunch of 300 lb guys who have very little athleticism. These lineman couldn't play any other sport with a few exceptions. Look at that Alabama offensive lineman. Just a fatso.
