Cardinals profile TRAVIS LABOY

Position: Outside linebacker/defensive end.
Height, weight: 6-3, 260.
Age: 26.
College: Hawaii.
Hometown: San Rafael, Calif.

Background: A walk-on at Utah State, he didn't play there because of a torn ligament in his foot and a coaching change. He transferred to Hawaii, where he had 24 sacks in three seasons. He and his brother C.J. grew up playing football together, and C.J. is an agent for Octagon Sports. Travis is among his clients. Travis was drafted by Tennessee is the second round in 2004. He played in 54 games, starting 20, and has 19 1/2 career sacks.

How he got here: An unrestricted free agent this spring, he signed a five-year deal.

2008 projected role: He likely will start at the weak outside-linebacker or "predator" position. LaBoy has been a defensive end in a 4-3 scheme throughout his pro career, so playing linebacker at times will be a change. He will be challenged by Bertrand Berry for the job.Edited by: 89Glory

Travis made headlines this week, laying down over $10K of his own money for a WWE-style jewel-encrusted belt to be worn by the Card's LB sack leader.

Group gets incentive to 'belt' QBs

"And the prize is a gaudy, but grand gold-and-jewel-encrusted belt that might belong to a champion pro wrestler. It even has a spinning Cardinals' bird-head logo affixed to the middle of it.

The idea came from Travis LaBoy, a free-agent addition from the Tennessee Titans, who has trained with pro wrestlers and knew a person who sculpted and built the belts the champions get to wear.

According to Dansby, LaBoy paid for the campy hardware, plunking down "something between $10,000 and $20,000." With the blessing of the coaching staff, the linebackers will take turns wearing it during the regular season, based on who has the most sacks from game to game.

"He's a new guy, and that's a lot of class, man," Dansby said of LaBoy. "He's a great guy, and I'm glad we got him aboard, 'cause this thing is going to be fun. And that belt is sweet! That sucker shines, man."

Here's a similar belt LaBoy had made last year in Tennessee. His brother has autism.

Travis LaBoy, starting defensive end for the Tennessee Titans, created a 18 lbs. replica WWF Championship Belt for his fellow defensive teammates to vie for every game, to help fight autism. Each week during the 2007 NFL season, the Supporting Autistic Causes for Kids (S.A.C.K.) belt raised awareness for autism. Not only did this belt give the players bragging rights thoughout the year, but at the end of the season, the whole team autographs the belt.

That's pretty neat, I give him respect. I hope he starts for the Cards this year. Thanks for finding that Reb.Edited by: jared

No problem jared! Hopefully someone will put a picture of the new Arizona belt online before long. I'd like to see it too!
