I dont want to jump the gun on this kid but he is a rb prospect out of George Washington High in West Virginia but he is going to be a junior this year and already has offers from the likes of Penn State and Florida State among about 7 offers total. He looks painfully thin in his upper body but he won a couple of combine mvp awards this summer and he claims to run a 4.41 forty. Ive seen his highlights and hes got talent but Ive seen 8 or 9 of our guys that have similiar or better talent at rb including Georgie Salem, Hayden Jones and Brian Regan. Why would Florida State offer this kid who might turn out to be great when we have so many other quality rbs out there. Im thrilled he has these early offfers but its strange. This kid is way to skinny for Penn State to try to push him into his blocking fullback roll. Florida State also offered super fast rb Drew Phillips from Alabama a few years ago but they were going to move him to wr. Phillips is now 3rd string behind JJ DiLuigi at BYU. Time will tell about this kid.

mattgianone, Ryan Switzer was the 2011 NUC Combine MVP(Sophomore), Junior this year, Charlotte, N.C. region.
His numbers: 4.61, 40; 4.0, shuttle; BP 155lbs. 22 reps. Not sure where he ran a 4.41, I will research?

Height: 5'8.5 Weight: 166

I have seen him live. Has good quickness and to me more of a slot receiver type, based on size.

Hey Carolina. I found him on Rivals as a rb but Scout has him as a wr. He claimed in his own SPARQ video that he ran a 4.41 forty. I just find it strange that Florida State would offer him before his junior year no matter what postition they play. I read he came in 5th in the 100 meters in the WV state finals as a freshman. Hes going to get faster. Florida State has a huge track record of not recruitng any white guys other than Justin Bright the last 2 decades. I am also intrigued that we have so many guys that have Switzers skills or more and they dont get a look. Why now? Something is fishy.

mattgianone, yeah I'm not sure about where the Penn St., FSU interest is coming from on Switzer at this point with a forty in the 4.5-4.6 range, with as you said he's painfully thin frame going into his junior year, but I hope it works out for him. He's attending combines in my area, so I will keep following him.

Hey, did you see the post on B. Berrios? He seems a little quicker/stronger version of Switzer and is only a sophomore! I believe he ran a 4.45 forty/29 reps BP, at his local combine and ran a 4.54/29reps BP at the ultimate 100 in Atlanta!

With all that said, it seems if THEY run a 4.4, we have to run a 4.3, if THEY run a 4.3, we have to run a 4.2, so I hope we can get some of these guys of this size, legitimately breaking the 4.4 barrier.

I sometimes see our guys reporting 40's in the 4.3 range, but there's no legitimate source for most of these times. Generally, when you see a guy reporting a 4.3, he's usually in the 4.4-4.5 range at combines and camps and sometimes the times are worse.

Last year a player in my area, who signed with Wofford, Zac Cole, ran a 4.35 at his local combine, but then blew up to a 4.55 at the nuc ultimate 100 at 6'2 200lbs. Not bad for High School or anywhere for that matter.

That's probably the fastest LEGIT time I've seen or heard for one of ours. I'm always looking though, I want to see more of this, consistently in the 4.3 range.

Ryan Switzer has exploded, both in the state of West Virginia and on the recruiting trail.

a member of the class of 2013, he has been named the Mountain State Athletic Conference Player of the Year, Kanawha Valley Player of the Year, 2011 Don Nehlen Chapter of the National Football Foundation High School Player of the year, the ESPNHS East Region Player of the Week for Nov. 9 (when he ran 20 times for 333 yards and six touchdowns and scored a seventh time on a 51-yard punt return), a member of the ESPN Top 150 recruiting watch list for high school players scheduled to graduate in 2013, Kennedy Award West Virginia Player of the Year, and Gatorade West Virginia Player of the Year.

a year ago as a sophomore, he led his team in all receiving categories with 29 catches, 602 yards, and 9 touchdowns. this year as the featured back, Switzer ran for 2,785 yards (on nearly 10 yards-per-carry) and scored 40 touchdowns en route to leading his team to a 13-1 record and a state championship berth (where they eventually lost with Switzer posting a season-low 115 yards and 2 touchdowns).

pretty impressive stuff for a junior.

his numbers at the Under Armour Combine were also impressive while measuring in at nearly 5-9 and 170-pounds: 4.52 in the 40, 32.5-inch vertical, 4.20 shuttle, 6.73 L-drill, 9-foot-4-inch broad jump, and 14 bench press reps. also, notice how young he looks in the photo. he still has a lot of physical maturing to do, i suspect.

he also has numerous Division 1 offers. VERY impressive stuff for a White running back.

Switzer also gets it done off the football field, maintaining a 3.9 GPA in the classroom and volunteering locally on behalf of the Special Olympics and as a youth football camp counselor. he's also already won two track state championships and hit the game-clinching basket to lead his basketball team to a state championship last year (he's also starting again this year).

“Ryan Switzer is without a doubt the best player in the state of West Virginia,” said Corey Beck, head coach of rival Lincoln High. “He was the unanimous player of the year in our conference and we play in one of the toughest conferences in the state. He is the real deal.”

"Switzer is just a fantastic player. I don't know what he had, but he's going to get his yards," state championship-winning Martinsburg Coach Dave Walker said after facing Switzer. "He's the best player in the state."

in college Switzer could project as a tailback, cornerback, or the racially-appropriate slot receiver in addition to returning kicks.

Ryan Switzer is going to North Carolina. Yikes. Apparently he has never heard of Hunter Furr. I am assuming he is going to play the slot but I would rather have him at running back. This does not bode well.

This does seem like a dumb move. Other teams that offered that are generally more white friendly were Wake Forest, Vanderbilt, NC State, Purdue and Penn State. Its not rocket science to figure this stuff out, and Switzer and his people should have done a little basic research. It would be one thing if he was only offered by North Carolina, but he had so many other offers, this was a dumb move.

More than likely, Switzer looked at the educational opportunity at the school and the "feel" of the campus and community. He is obviously clueless in regards to the caste system and really has no idea. While the CS is obvious to us, the vast majority of student athletes are convinced that sports is a pristine meritocracy.

Football Dad, you are unfortunately correct about the naivete of so many white athletes. Still, you would think that white athletes would figure out that year in year out a team like Wisconsin or Boston College is always playing more whites on the football team than a Florida or Mississippi State, the difference is so big and so consistent.

I deal with youth athletes all of the time, and unfortunately, they don't "notice" the difference. White youths are so deracinated that they are oblivious to what is obvious. As for the examples you give, they chalk it up to area demographics (which is true, to a point), rather than agenda-oriented.

Excellent observation FootballDad! I was at UNC's Junior Day a few weeks ago and North Carolina's presentation is top flight in facilities and education! UNC is always in the the top 5 of public universities in the country and their facilities, are I would say top 10 in the country. It was very impressive to me; what do you think it is to impressionable young athletes?

I can see why a 5'8, 160lb. kid would commit so early, if they offered. Switzer is very impressive in person, although slight in build, he may see an opportunity to utilize his skills in a new spread type of offense, Fedora is bringing to Chapel Hill, which was on display at Junior Day.

However, with this said, it is very disappointing that a university such as North Carolina got into the trouble it did under Butch Davis! It is without a doubt one of the finest public universities in the country!

As a native North Carolinian it is disturbing to see some of the athletes that were brought in. Let's hope that Ryan Switzer represents a change in UNC's football program.
