BUC-ING FOR A NEW QB

NFL personnel people say the Buccaneers have been sniffing around the league, seeing if they can find a veteran quarterback to add to their roster.

Makes sense, too. Right now, the Buccaneers have questions about their quarterback position for this season, and seasons to come.

Heading into the year, Tampa Bay was convinced that Chris Simms, who is headed into the last year of his contract, was its quarterback of the future. But two games into this season, the Buccaneers have more doubts than beliefs.

Tampa Bay has scored only three points in its two games this season. Now it is thought that they already have begun compiling a list of potential quarterbacks available. One who might be would be Jacksonville's David Garrard, who wouldn't have a far commute to Tampa. But the Buccaneers likely would have to give up plenty to get him, and no one knows whether they will.

Just keep in mind: The NFL's trading deadline is Oct. 17

Replace Chris Simms with DAVID GERRARD.....

Woah if this happens,The Caste System will have reached a new Lower Level...This is shocking, considering how awful and overatedthe Tampa Wide Receivers Clayton and Galloway and RunningBlack Carnel Superstar Williams are.Edited by: NotreDameIrish

Simms is being thrown under the bus, just like Volek albeit under different circumstances.

If they do trade for Gerrard, and Gerrard 'under performs,' I doubt we'll hear any criticism.

The general trend seems to be, if you have a white quarterback and the team stinks, its the quarterbacks fault. If you have a black quarterback and the team stinks, then the team just generally stinks over all. Cf. the Dolphins and Raiders with Tampa Bay and the Packers.

Simms showed plenty of potential down the stretch last season. He throws a beautiful deep ball, but rarely has the time to unleash one due to his pathetic offensive line. This is typicial Caste System stuff- blaming a young white QB completely for an underperforming offense. As Don has pointed out many times here, a young white QB must produce immediately. There are little growing pains allowed for young white QBs. What may give Simms a bit more of a chance than your average white QB is the fact he is the son of NFL star and t.v. commentator Phil Simms. That's probably why you see Mortensen and Theismann jumping to his defense.

Not only with quarterbacks. I've heard rumblings from Packer fans about AJ Hawk. Some say he is a disappointment and may never be more than average. I don't know what his future holds, but I would say it's a bit premature to throw him under the bus after only 2 games!

Gheez, it's getting rough. It's getting so that quarterbacking while white you have to be near perfect all the time, every game, every play, every practice, every press conference, every minute. That's an overstatement, of course. But judging how things are progressing that day will be here very soon. Already read an article today knocking Brohm of Lousiville for strictly operating out of the shotgun which will lead to comparisons with Tim Couch and Chris Redman.

A while back, when watching bucks' games, I noticed the defenses had Gruden's offense or play calling figured out. Maybe, the same thing is still going on.

Hey Garrard is a QB God. Just ask him he will tell you. He is one of the most egotistical, big mouthed jerks in football. I don't like Leftwich but he is a saint compared to Garrard

Garrard over Simms, you would have to be retarded to want that, even in the caste football world there is no GM or coach that stupid. Sims with his great arm, blond good looks and QB pedigree vs. a guy that can't throw, can't run very good, is ugly, obnoxious, and stupid. Wait it might just happen!

Idiots should have "sniffed" out Billy Volek a week ago.

Garrad is a career third stringer? Why not call out Steve Deberg? Is George Blanda still around?

that would never happen... Gruden would start rattay, Gradkowski, hell, he would bring Gannon out of retirement before starting Garrard...

but i've been wrong before...

it's funny how quickly pseudo fans turn their backs on a team... on bucs message boards people loved Simms last season, and now it's either start Grad, trade for (insert name here) etc. fair weather fans, but then again 82% of Bucs' fans are exactly that...

Bucs fans are notorious bandwagon jumpers. Before they started to win under Dungy, the place was a mosoleum.

Chris played a great game today, rallying Bucs and yet cominga little short because of Jake Delhomme heroics and John Kasay's kicking... what i didn't know at the time was that he played with the ruptured spleen... now how's that for toughness Steve Young (one of many Simms' doubters)

get well soon Chris!

I hate to see Simms go down and hopefully he can heal up. He is a tough sob though for playing that game and helping lead a comeback. I am interested to see if Gradkowski gets the start though, I really want to see him in action I just wish it was under different circumstances.
