Plano TX High School junior Rex Burkhead is the most heavily recruited white RB in Texas for the class of 2009. As a sophmore, he rushed for 1030 yds playing both RB and QB during the season. His athletic ability is incredible. As a 5'-8" 8th grader he was dunking during basketball games.

He already has offers from Cal and North Texas. Here is an article about him:

This video is good for a laugh. It is the highlights of yesterday's game between #7 ranked Plano, a white surburban school, and Dallas Carter, an all black inner city school. There are a couple of highlights of Rex Burkhead rushing for TDs.

Plano 42, Carter 7

I was at a public high school game here in Utah last Friday night and was talking to a local football dad about the myth of black athletic supremacy and used Carter as an example. I saw mostly white Evangel light them up in Shreveport in the mid 90s when Brock Berlin was the QB. After watching Friday Night Lights, most people would think they are one of the best teams around. Not so.

Can that video be uploaded to Youtube? It would be perfect to post the video under a heading that will get views and then post a comment saying that this guy should be a top Div. 1 RB prospect.

Rex was a one man show last night rushing 7 for 156 yds and a TD and receiving 6 passes for 120 yds and another TD. Unfortunately Plano lost to Allen, who is ranked 5th in the state, 35 to 26.

Plano is not a suburban white school anymore and Rex Burkhead (#20)is probably the white chocolate of running backs, look at the video. He also played safety against us, flipping a guy at the goaline and on the next play he had a pick. There is more video on UTUBE that a dad for us (Allen)loaded. There are two videos (Allen vs Plano) totaling 8 minutes. Check out the video for yourself. As good as Dan Buckner was for us Burkhead was all world and he could play slot, rb, fb, lb or ss/fs in college. I went down on the field and he was being interviewed after the game, the kid is about 6' and every bit of 195-200. He ruturned punts, kicks and punted for Plano. He breaks a kids ankles on one play. If you can find the video on UTUBE, it is awesome. Glad we play them only once this year, well maybe twice if they make it that far.

This kid sounds like an athletic freak and i hope he chooses to play football, or heck why not football and baseball at the college level?

Burkhead had a good game last night going 10 for 126 yds (12.6 ypc!) and 3 TDs in a 41-6 win. He was pulled in the 3rd quarter or he could have had more.

The Burkhead kid started as a freshman on Plano's basketball and football team. Plano is a Texas 5A school. Plano has three senior high schools (11-12) and two high schools (9-10) feeding into each senior high school. I believe Plano Senior High School is the 3rd or 4th largest school in the state of Texas (approximately 5000 kids), so for him to go up and play was a big deal, but to start some and be a contributor as a freshman was really unheard of at the time. It doesn't look like he is slowing down any. I saw him play basketballlast year in the playoffs and he is a hell of a basketball player, I would be surprised if he is not being recruited in basketball also.

Allen has a bunch of good athletes every year. We use to have a pipeline with UTAH, Tulsa, BYU and Rice when the former Allen head coach, Todd Graham(now the Head Coach at Tulsa) was here. Allen has a ninth grade school and then 10-12 high school, but our numbers are not close to Plano.

Through 8 games, Rex has 1233 yds of offense (845 rushing, 388 receiving) and 17 TDs. Plano is 7-1 and Rex seems to do it all on the team (RB, Punter, and Safety). He is among the leaders in the DFW area in almost every offensive category.

On the recruiting front, word is Texas Tech is making a full court press for Rex and is comparing him to their great freshman receiver Michael Crabtree. Stanford coaches have visiting the last three Plano games, so there are definitely a lot of schools looking at him.

Awesome picture of Burkhead diving over two defenders attempting to make it to the endzone. Burkhead is a junior this year at Plano. This pic shows you how athletic this kid is. He also returned punts against us.

Matt Brown is a sophomore QB for us at Allen and he is going to be a stud also. He isthe leading QB in 9-5A at this point. Enjoy the pic, it was posted on a local Texas website.

Burkhead goes 28 for 146 and 3 TDs in a win over Plano East.

Here's a link to a video of the highlights of the game. Rex shows his moves on the TD runs (#20 in burgandy). Unlike many high schoolers, Burkhead already has the body of a D1 RB. He is built.

Plano 28-Plano East 14

White WR Grant Davis (#4)also had a heck of game with 6 rec for 164 and a 73 yd TD.

I am hoping he ends up going to Texas Tech. He could be a force in the slot.

those were some pretty impressive highlights...

one guy on Rex's opponent stood out as well. #9 from Rockwall, a wide receiver/cornerback showed tremendous speed! he even outran Burkhead for a touchdown on an interception return.

any idea who that kid is? he can run!

I don't think he'll be allowed to play WR with his slow 40 time and below average size, it's slow enough that even a black might not get a shot at a top school. His short shuttle time is ridiculously good though, so it's possible he has that elite short burst and cutting ability ala Wes Welker. Maybe with training he could get it down to the 4.65-4.70 range. I hope so, he looks to have that intangible as a player. I think if he could get his 40 down a little he could be a good slot guy.

wow. man i thought he'd be a lot faster than that. i was scrolling down the list and theres some LB prospects faster than he is. he looks so fast in his highlight videos. do the scout.com people use electronic times or just a stop watch? man i really hope he gets a track/speed coach. his forty is going to keep him from getting offers from the "big" schools.

i just pulled up his profile on rivals.com. it says his forty is 4.6. that sounds a lot better but i wonder if its from an actual combine. any info on the protocol for the highschool forty times would be great Riggins.

cheers.

I am a little skeptical of those numbers. At 5'8" he was dunking a basketball in eighth grade. To accomplish that at that height would require a vertical in the mid to high 30s, yet his vertical is listed at 31.6". Also, he is up to around 200 lbs.

His numbers from the National Underclassman Combine were a little more impressive. This was as a sophmore I believe, so he can improve those with training.

My son plays for Allen and I took himto two college combines this summer and he pointed out the Burkhead kid. I watched him run two mid 4.5 forties and one sub 4 secondshuttle. I know he ran away from a kid on our teamthat has been tested in the 4.5 - 4.4 range. I find it hard to believe the kid runs anywhere close to what is recorded by scout.

I can tell you that I took my son to scout the year (2006)before and they were timing people on grass, but alot of kids did not have there grass cleats, because they told them they would be on turf, maybe that was part of the reason for those times.Scout also uses those vertical jump pads (the electronic jump pads) and those things are horribly inaccurate, plus some kids cheat and pull there knees up...not a good tool to get a true vertical

When I took my soon to the National Underclassmen camp they were using the vertical jump measurer where you had to jump up and touch the slats, two tries only. They also pressed his armpit against the wall when they were measuring his reach, so that was probably the most accurate and scutinized vertical heever had.Edited by: AllenEGL

I found the results from the camp my son and I saw him at and he is looking pretty consistant in the 4.6 - 4.5 area, and he had a 37 inch vertical at this combine:

If Rex is running in the 4.5-4.6 range he clearly should be a top prospect with what he is doing against the best competition in Texas. Scout.com also had Martin Ward a top
black RB prospect's combine time at 5.00 seconds, and he is still a 4 star prospect, so I gotta figure something is going wrong with their testing formula!Edited by: ToughJ.Riggins

Burkhead had a big game for Plano going 30 for 125 yds and 2 TDs. He also had 3 rec for 57 yds as Plano rolled over Mesquite 28 to 7.
