Kennedy Award winner Jordan Roberts will attend West Virginia University and play football for the Mountaineers as an invited walk-on, according to Scott High coach Shane Griffith.
"I talked to Coach [Doc] Holliday [Friday] morning,'' Griffith said. "Jordan was waiting to see all his opportunities. He had some Division II offers, but also a Promise scholarship. So he's going to WVU.
"I think West Virginia is excited. It's kind of a win-win for everybody.''
Roberts set the all-time high school single-season rushing record in West Virginia with 3,826 rushing yards on 336 carries in 13 games. He broke the 2005 mark set by Nitro's Josh Culbertson, who Thursday announced he'd transfer from the University of Charleston to WVU.
My Take: So, Jordan Roberts who is West Virginia's all time single season H.S rushing leader and ran for 3,800 Yds, 11.4 YPC and 48 TDs Senior year will have to "walk-on" for his home state Mountaineers. This makes me want to puke! I hope he gets a shot at RB. Roberts backing up Noel Divine as a change of pace bigger RB would be best case scenario with maybe him getting a shot to start after Noel enters the NFL draft. This kids measurables are simply unbelievable. It is pure racism that WVU did not sign him to a scholarship.

A black RB with that size and measurables along with being the best single season runner in WV history would have been flooded with scholarship offers from major programs. Yet another talented football player screwed over for theoffense of being white.

It shocks me that Jordan Roberts has to walk-on at WVU. I`m originally from West Virginia and I know that WVU generally gets only 1 or 2 in-state scholarship players each year because the talent is not there for the most part. This yearI believetheir only WV scholarship athlete is Josh Jenkins. But this time they have an incredibly talented in-state RB and he has towalk on?

They are uttered in awe by officials or screamed in frustration by opponents. They are as honest as it gets because they aren't intended for others' ears. Like this one, from a linebacker after Roberts' 89-yard touchdown run against Shady Spring: "This is crazy. You can't tackle that kid." Or this one, from a referee after Roberts' 64-yard touchdown run against third-ranked James Monroe: "That is the best running back I have seen in a long, long time."
A Roane County assistant took that statement one step further after he watched Roberts carry the football 17 times for 267 yards and four scores in the teams' season opener. Walking off the Raiders' field and talking to one of their fans, the coach called Roberts "the best running back I have seen since Robert Alexander," who played at West Virginia University after an All-America career at South Charleston High. Nine games into his senior season, Roberts hasn't done anything to prove the praise is unwarranted. "I have never seen a kid dominate a game like he does on offense, defense and special teams," Roane County Coach Tom Hardman said.

Roberts has rushed 200 times for 2,571 yards and 32 touchdowns. He has completed 18-of-53 passes for 443 yards with five scores and two interceptions.
He has recorded 69 tackles (41 solos and 28 assists) and three sacks. He also has collected a fumble recovery and an interception, which he returned for a touchdown.
He's also returned three punts for 144 yards and four kickoffs for 291 yards and a score.
Numbers like those explain why Roberts is one of the leading candidates for the Kennedy Award, presented annually to the Mountain State's best player as selected by the West Virginia Sports Writers Association. Kanawha Valley football fans will have an opportunity to watch Roberts tonight, when the fourth-ranked Skyhawks (7-2) take on the top-ranked Bluefield Beavers (8-0) in a neutral-field game between Class AA contenders. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at University of Charleston Stadium. As an added bonus, the crowd could see Roberts make history. He has a chance to put his name in the state record books.
Roberts needs only 174 yards to break West Virginia's regular-season record for rushing yards. That mark is held by former Nitro star Josh Culbertson, who ran for 2,744 yards in 10 games in 2005. Culbertson, who now plays for UC, added to that total in the Wildcats' postseason surge. He ran for a playoffs-included, state-record 3,587 yards in 14 games.
Scott Coach Shane Griffith acknowledges that Roberts could have broken the regular-season record by now if the coach weren't so cautious.

Nevertheless, Roberts' statistics suggest Culbertson's record will fall.
Roberts, who has drawn interest from Appalachian State, Marshall, Penn State, Purdue and West Virginia, has topped the 200-yard mark in every game this season. His season low is 231 against Liberty Raleigh in Week 9.
None of Scott's previous opponents can match the defensive speed of Bluefield, which has allowed only 61 points this year. That is why this game is so important to Roberts' Kennedy hopes. "This is one of those big-stage opportunities that, unfortunately, is required for some of the media to recognize his abilities and his commitment," said Griffith. "For that purpose, this is a very significant game in his career.
"To go to Charleston on a Friday night and play in such a big atmosphere and against such a storied program, that provides him with a center-stage opportunity. Our program looks at it in a healthy way.
"But I would be the first to say that it is unfortunate that so much pressure gets placed upon one game. When you look at what he has accomplished over the past two years and what he has meant to this program and how he has played this game, there is nothing to justify the fact that one game will define his career, but it will."
Griffith and the rest of the Skyhawks want Roberts to break the record and win the award for a simple reason: They think he deserves it.
The 5-foot-11 Roberts is an offseason workhorse whose weight has increased from 128 pounds to 210 pounds and whose 40-yard dash time has decreased from 5.3 seconds to 4.4 seconds since his freshman year.
"Obviously, Jordan was blessed with a lot of gifts from God," Griffith said. "But he doesn't rely solely on talent. Over the last four years, Jordan has worked harder than anyone I have ever been around to enhance his talent."
Roberts, who isn't entirely comfortable speaking about himself or his accomplishments, shrugs off such praise. The way he looks at it, all he did was what he was supposed to do.
"I just wanted to push myself," said Roberts, who combined old-school workouts with new-school techniques (plyometrics and gymnastics) to become bigger, stronger and faster. "I want to be the best I can be. I want to play at the highest level I can."
Unfortunately for Roberts, all of his hard work on and off the field could be all for naught.
Fair or unfair, the Kennedy Award usually goes to a Class AAA player. In fact, Roberts would be the first Class AA player to win it since 1998, when Weir tailback Quincy Wilson shared the honor with Nitro quarterback J.R. House.

If you recall Jordan Roberts is walking on at West Virginia where he will be battling Mark Rodgers and Mike portier and Zach Hulse ( might be white ) to back up Noel Devine. He had a scholarship offer from Boston College but to play linebacker. Go figure.

It's just sickening how these schools will try to force the white kids to play their 2nd best position rather than allow a white RB. I think Roberts knows how talented he is as a RB and is why he said F**k you to Boston College! He has all the measurables and brilliant production. Also according to some Scout.com posts he cuts superbly without losing much speed in transition. This is a kid who if it were fair would be a star RB for a division IA team. I don't know, maybe he will impress enough to become Devine's primary backup and then take over as a starter if Devine goes pro. Good luck to him to overcome his significant obstacles he will face for the "black power" Mountaineers!

Don i totally agree with your comment. however, i think i'm just reaching a point where some of my frustration is starting to be directed towards these athletes and their parents. i mean, in Jordan's case, i can't understand why he would ever settle for an "invited walk on" designation. yeah, i know he's getting screwed but i just wonder if he or his parents really did their homework when it came to putting his name out there and getting film to white friendly schools. i mean, this kid is an exceptional football player, and let's face it, WVU isn't going to ever use him as their feature back. if i were his father i would have been emailing and sending tapes to BYU and CSU everyday. i wonder if Jordan ever even fathomed the real reason why he didn't get a flood of offers...his skin color. do you think ANY of these kids or their parents realize whats going on? and if so, do you think they even consider trying to get the attention of schools that "less" castish. i wish there was a way to get thru to some of these kids and just let them know about this site or have them read some of the articles and have them see that most schools in Div. 1 are going to screw them. then they could atleast focus their efforts on going somewhere where they won't be completely barred from even trying to play the "skill" positions.
does anyone know if there is a way to get a player's film highlights to a college head coach, without actually representing the player? for example, would it be feasible and perhaps more important, appropriate for someone to assemble a highlight reel of players like Jordan Roberts and just bombard headcoaches' offices with them?? am i just fooling myself here or does this sound like an idea that might be worth developing/talking about?
i mean if i'm some struggling head coach at let's say North Texas or Idaho or any small D1 and i can't get any "blue chips" to even consider looking at my program, and i have a miniscule recruiting budget that prevents me from ever competing with the big boys, wouldn't i welcome a bunch of well put together info, stats, combine numbers, video footage, and articles of highschool prospects. and the best part is, if i'm the coach, i got very little competition for these guys. think about how many Jordan Roberts we've talked about on this web site, and especially think of how little interest they get from most programs. any coach that paid attention would instantly get access to a vast "market" of untapped and better yet (for the coach anyway) UNRECRUITED talent. don't you think if we sent recruiting info about the athletes we talk about, to let's say the top 20 worst programs in the nation or better yet, the top 10 non caste (or atleast "less" caste) programs, that we would get some interest for our athletes?
i welcome any and all thougths on this, guys. it's something that has been bugging me since last weekend. i was playing madden 08 and getting frustrated that i couldn't recruit any blue chips with my CSU program.

johnnyboy that sounds like a very interesting idea. The only flaw I can see is the difficulty in getting high quality video footage.
I guess you'd have to get in contact with the high school coaching staff to get the discs, then forward them with the relevant information to schools you think would welcome it. I like the idea, but obviously a lot of work.
But you're right, to chip away at the caste system, little by little, you have to make some bold moves and I respect that.

I think that what separates Caste Football's discussion board fromall theother ones is the quality of the posts, not the quantity. I see so many sports boards where posters ring up thousands of posts per month. But on those boards the posts are rat-tat-tat instant and constant one and twosentence responsesrather than anything thought out.

Good news (I guess) about Jordan Roberts. He transferred from the University of West Virginia Black Mountaineers to Division 2 University of Charleston where he is slated, correctly, as a running back. I hope that he gets/earns a shot.

Starting his senior year, he opened with a school-record 238 yards on 23 carries.
