While I did not expand on the idea in my column I find it very interesting that baseball and hockey are the two major north American sports that white athletes excel in. This led me to make some comparisons on the two.

Baseball, uses a wooden bat to hit a baseball at very high speed

Hockey, uses a wooden stick to hit a hockey puck at very high speed

Notice that neither football or basketball use anything other then the ball in the playing of the gameand that neither sport has anything moving at nearly the high rate of speed as a puck or baseball. Also tennis is similar, a wooden racket (at least at one time) driving the ball at a high speed. And of course golf.

I would be tempted from this to make an argument that these sports would favor a people thatare more adept at using tools thenthose that are not. Also as an advantage would be the ability to handle objects moving faster then any object in the natural environment, say over 100 mph. Does this argument stand up to futher scrutiny?

I would say a lot of it comes back to one of the areas where whites have a big advantage in athletics, though it is rarely recognized as such, that of hand-eye coordination. In the very few sports that have a black presence, their ability seems to revolve mostly around speed, elusiveness, jumping, and quick bursts. Once it starts to involve different skills than those, their ability to compete declines dramatically.

I agree with your analysis right winger. I also think whites have superior hand eye coordination. However I have searched and searched the web and have been unable to find any research to back this up. I have been told that the government tests for this on a regular basis but am unable to find the data. Can anyone help? It would be an invaluable tool for us to make our case on the high quality of white athletic ability.

Dr. Cash -- Greetings from Crazed Hockey fandom!

Thanks for writing your most excellent article "On Ice." A brilliant piece. Would that you were the lead writer at The Sporting News. If I owned TSN I would hire you and pay you handsomely

We can hope that eighteen months from now we'll be celebrating the vibrant, new, high-scoring NHL filled with cherubic new White faces and raucous, full crowds in the standsEdited by: Realgeorge

Good idea to have a post section related to Cash articles. This site is on the stick--no hockey pun intended.
