As a kid growing up in Georgia, I was always a huge Atlanta Falcons fan. They were usually pretty bad, but they had a few good years as well, led by quarterback Steve Bartkowski. Flash forward to 2001, the Falcons then draft who would become the most overrated player in NFL history in Michael Vick. After hearing all of the worship of media pundits ranting and raving about this guy. It sickened me to see my Falcons draft him. The San Diego Chargers (who were my second favorite team at the time) immediately became my favorite as I had gained a whole lot of respect for the franchise by passing on such an overrated player (not to mention, my favorite player of all time, Lance Alworth played for them) Why is it that so many white fans (especially southern white fans) worship these 'af-letes' when they are simply nothing more than running backs playing a position that they are not suited for. As a white Southerner, I dont feel that blacks represent me, therefore I choose to root for the teams with the most white players

But anyway, as for Matt Schaub. I thought he did an excellent job in filling in for "St. Michael" and deserves an oppurtunity to earn the starting job in Atlanta. 3 TD's, 0 INT's and I think somewhere around 300 yards passing. Compare that to Vick's pathetic QB stats. Yet, Arthur Blank, the team owner, just shelled out a sh*tload of money to keep St Michael on the team. This is downright pitiful. You have here, a guy in Matt Schaub who has the potential to be a franchise QB (and would cost A LOT LESS mind you) yet the stupid braintrust gave 10 mil to a player that not only does not deserve it, but is also a liability being that he is so injury prone. I wish there was something we as fans could do about these injustices. I will laugh when Schaub is a franchise QB (either in Atlanta or somewhere else) while Vick is sitting at home, watching the games on TV because his career was cut short due to injury

When the Falcons start to have a losing record, the cries for Vick to be benched in favor of Schaub will intensify. But as long as they're winning Vick is bulletproof, no matter that the Falcons running game and defense is more responsible for the wins than St. Michael.

The great thing about the NFL is that contracts aren't guaranteed, which is why players always try for as much upfront bonus money as possible. Even Vick is replaceable. Because of the absurd over-worshiping of him by the media, Vick will become hated in Atlanta much like Kordell Stewart was in Pittsburgh when the team's fortunes begin to sour.

Don, I wouldn't count on that. Just look at Duante Culpepper. All the fans will whisper to you that they think he should be benched, but nobody dares boo him in the stadium. The media in general dares not to even mention benching Duante. I don't think anybody in the prominent media has guts to say "bench vick". The head coach, offensive coordinator, offensive line, and recievers will be fired before he gets benched.

I mean from the fans first. The media will only reluctantly follow. I'm basing that from watching firsthand The Great Eight Year Kordell Stewart Experiment here in Pittsburgh. Stewart wasbuilt up by the Caste System media to be The One, and when it became obvious even to whiteSteelers fans that he was way out of his element, the dislike of Stewart became intense and almost universal. If the Falcons start to lose on a regular basis, I think the same thing will happen in Atlanta. Vick has already become like Tiger Woods -- constantly over-hyped to the point that most fans want to see him fail.

White fans need to boo more often when guys like Kordell and Duante take the field. I remember Rich Gannon having a couple of bad games in a row in Minnesota and fans booed him mercilessly while the media basically did the same. More people than ever in Minnesota want to see Duante go, but even fans that can't stand him are reluctant to voice there opinion at the stadium. I figure its some kind of weird white fear - that they are afraid of being seen as anti-black in any way. Might sound a little crazy but I know its true. Edited by: Kaptain Poop

i seriously think the falcons would be better and win more games by moving vick to tailback and starting schaub at quarterback.

in reality schaub will have to leave atlanta to play. that's all there is to that.

Steelers fans were vicious towards Tommy Maddox today. He hadn't played in over a year and Jacksonville has a very good defense, but they booed him right from the beginning of the game as soon as he threw an incompletion. He had no margin for error and was given none.Maddox admittedly played poorly, but you would have thought the Steelers were a bottom-feeding team rather than almost unbeatable the past season+.

maddox delivered perhaps the worst performance i have ever seen. he singlehandedly turned an almost certain victory into a defeat. i haven't seen a player give a game away like that maybe ever. he lost that game for the steelers. literally anybody would have been better at quarterback in that overtime. wow. he deserved every boo, every jeer, every harsh word he got. i hope they booed him out of the stadium.

Tommy Maddox ATT/COM 11/28; YDS 154; AVG 5.5; TD 1; INT3
Rushing 3 ATT;15 YDS; 5.0 AVG; 0 TD;16 LONGEST.

TOTAL YDS: 169, 1 TD, 3 INT

Mike Vick ATT/COM 11/23; YDS 112; AVG 4.9; TD 1; INT 1.
Rushing 8 ATT, 51 YDS 6.4 AVG, 0 TD, 12 Longest

TOTAL YDS: 163 YDS, 1 TD, 1 INT.

Vick played only marginally better than Maddox today. But then again, he plays that way everyday. What do you think, Jody, should Vick be booed out of the stadium, too? Maybe he and Maddox can open an insurance agency together, what do you think?

so wrong. vick played bad. maddox was absolutely terrible. the worst performance he has ever delivered in the NFL.

he lost the game SINGLEHANDEDLY. he fumbled inside the opponent's 30 in overtime and turned it over. do you understand? he lost the game just on that play. that's a 95% certain win by field goal.

then on the next possession in overtime he threw a pick for the game losing touchdown. that was the worst playing i have ever seen out of anybody. i'm not even joking. that was abysmal.

did you watch the game? he lost the game all by himself! the loss was 100% due to maddox playing as bad as possible at the exacty wrong time.Edited by: jody

Ok, Jody, I'll tell you honestly - I thought Maddox lost the game for the Steelers too. He played poorly.

But I just get tired of the same type of play by black quarterbacks being ignored, time and again. How many games has Daunte lost this season?

But yeah - Maddox blew it today. He did.

Lance Alworth, I'm a Georgia-boy myself, and I can remember the
good-ole-days, when the Falcons employed a great deal of blue-collar
white guys that you just HAD to root for: Fulton Kuykendoll, RC
Thielmann, Tom Pridemore, Russ Mikeska, Billy Ryckman (sp.?), Buddy
Curry, Jeff Van Note, Steve Bartkowski (of course), and
bartender-turned-kicker Tim Mazzetti. I know I'm missing a lot
more, too.

There are still a number of folks in Atlanta that have not forgotten
that the Falcons traded Tim Dwight in the package to get Vick. At
the time, Dwight was a spectacular performer, and was easily the most
popular player, especially among women (most of whom would not
otherwise be watching the games).

Owner Arthur Blank has a creepy fascination with St. Vick that borders
on a fetish. (Remember when Blank personally pushed Vick's
wheelchair along the sideline during one of Vick's numerous
injuries?).

I don't believe that Vick's honeymoon will last much longer -- he is
not developing as an NFL-caliber QB, and his propensity for injury will
make him a target of the fans. (Believe me, I live here and it's
already happening). Schaub is a solid backup and gives the 'Coons
the best chance to stay competitive --- if Vick had played against New
England, the Falcons would have lost by 17.

I would love to see Matt Schaub (or any young White QB) be given a
4-year "developmental" timeframe. He'd exceed all
expectations.
