Marc Mauro
Locust Valley, NY
6'1", 190lbs, 4.32
Scout profile

He has a Youtube highlight video, but it's worthless. It's recorded with a handcam off a tv screen. There's also a video of him running a 4.37 at an official Rivals Combine. Rivals, however, won't give him credit for it on his profile page. They rounded him up to 4.4, so I won't be giving them any free hits by linking their website.
Maxpreps didn't have his stats for last year, so I can't tell much about his production. But a multi-position player with those measurables would be a four star prospect if he were black.
He also runs track.
100 - 10.94 (fast, but it seems like he front-loads his speed, which is ideal for a runningback)
200 - 22.13

Marc has one offer. From Hofstra.

Very true that front-loaded speed is better for a RB than backloaded. Even a good 10-20 yard clip is also more important than a 40 yard clip, but Rivals will never tell you that b/c it works against their agenda since whites do so well with 10-20 yard clips.

It's tough to know though, without seeing highlights and seeing his production, how good this guy could be. But if the Rivals potato chip eating scouts were evaluating a black multi-position player with his measurables, you can bet they'd at least hype him as a Chris Henry type "raw" prospect.

Hofstra which was the only school to offer him has dropped football. So will any school want a white RB, athlete who runs a combine timed 4.37 who has good size 6'1" 190lbs?? Why is this player ,who had a great senior season, with the size, quickness, and speed to definitely play RB at a 1A school, without even a 1AA offer? Mauro was fifth in the NY state division II 100 meters and 3rd in the 200 meters as a junior. Edited by: jwhite96

Maybe someday with a little better spelling you can work at rivals.com.

there are many black track guys that have little football "instincts" that coaches recruit and use them as football players, like Jeff Demps and Trindon Holliday. So if what you say is true, it doesnt matter, that is why position coaches exist in college, to maximize a player's potentialEdited by: dwid

Wow, after watching this highlight it's hard for me (or anybody with unbiased eyes) to believe that a guy with that kind of raw talent and speed can't get a scholarship. It's just impossible for me to believe that his race wasn't the main factor. There's NO way that Marc is not getting numerous scholarships and opportunities to succeed at a major college if he were only black...

Good line.

After watching his highlight video, anyone who says hecan't play major college ballis either jealous of him or incredibly ignorant.

THAT is the most unique video that I think I've seen. That dude is going to run around people, wait, he's gonna run through tacklers left and right. No wait, he's gonna bounce off a would-be tackler and check out the landscape somewhere else only to shed people. Hold on, he's going to go over defenders and score. That touchdown at the 4 minute mark is straight out of hell.

Not only does he have elite speed but his agility and balance are off the charts. Should be an elite recruit.

Outstanding balance, field vision & speed. I can't believe this kid is only rated two (lousy) stars!
smiley21.gif
Just because he plays at a "smaller" school in NY. He runs a little too upright, but has the size & speed to play RB or CB at the D-1 level. According to his (White)Rivals page, he only has 1 offer from Hofstra...despite showing "medium interest" in Buffalo, UCONN, Maryland, Stony Brook, Syracuse & Temple. You think LI's Stony Brook & CW Post would be making offers to a local star.

Wow, what a talent! I'm sure something will develop on this kid because he looks too good to pass up for any reason whatsoever.

I can see him being utilized how other afflete "track stars" are used in spread offenses. Depending on how well he can catch the ball he could be a Percy Harvin clone.

If you think Mauro can't play because he is a track guy, then you must think guys like Robert Griffen and Kevin Newsome (Former track captain in HS competing for Penn State QB job with white QB Matt McGloin this year) can't play either.

Man, it would only take one FBS school to offer Mauro and Knapp- and they'd have possibly the best RB in this class (Knapp) and another guy who could go on to become a top 10 RB (Mauro)! But there isn't one damn coach in the entire FBS who has the courage to offer two white RBs. Meanwhile basically all the top schools from BCS conferences are offering 2, 3 and even 4 black RBs without a single white one.
smiley7.gif

The only knock on this kid- is that he runs a bit high and the competition appears to be from a less densely populated area. He can start and stop on a dime, has freakish burst, doesn't have to gear down "much at all" to make his cuts (Knapp doesn't gear down at all), has good top end speed and- although he runs high- displays a nice stiff arm and ability to lower the shoulder when he has to to fight for yards.

It took me a while to realize that there are Toby Gerharts, Sam McGuffies, Rex Burkheads and Brandon Weghers every year. It is never unique to one year, but these kids will never get any help from whiterivals.com or browniescout.com. They are going to have to market themselves because Rivals, ESPN and Scout want nothing, but the worst for them- and probably seethe when these kids get enough notoriety to get an offer and go on to prove their United Negro College Fund rankings bogus.Edited by: ToughJ.Riggins

I don't know how to embed videos, but I think we should do a highlight thread "Highschoolers Looking for Offers". If we put Mauro's and Knapp's highlights (no offers) and also posted scrub black "tailbacks" like Brad Rogers' and Jatashun Beachumed Whale's highlights in the thread (multiple offers) it is clear as night and day who the VASTLY better talents are!

It's mind boggling that Mauro cannot get an offer.. WTF is Buffalo waiting for? They are on his list of possible schools. It's not like they have a plethora of highly ranked recruits coming in that play the same position as Marc. With his speed and game changing ability I THOUGHT you had to find a place on the field for a guy like that. Guess it depends, maybe if his name was Demarco things would've turned out different.

Marc also plays CB and LB but he's not as skilled at either of those positions as he is at HB. Marc has highlights of him playing LB and CB on Youtube. Marc has tremendous power, 4.3 speed and can play multiple positions yet he can't get a scholarship. Hopefully Marc will get a FAIR chance to play HB when he walks on somewhere because apparently only affletes can get full rides and endless opportunities to succeed...

To embed a YouTube video just copy and paste the link and then surround it with [] the link [/] but write tube in the blocks.

Listen Everybody, Everyone talking about Marc's skills and speed and all of his talent, are 100 percent correct. I am an offensive lineman on his high school team, I have been on the varsity with marc for 2 seasons now and he is without a doubt the best running back i have ever played with, the only possible exception is anthony brunetti of holy trinity high school. Marc however had many issues in the classroom as well as a few run ins with the law which caused his scholarship to hofstra to be withdrawn before hofstra had folded its program. There is no doubt marc is a top level recruit, I know better then anyone because i have been on the receiving end of many of his devasting cuts and accelerations at practices which caused me to look like an idiot on multiple occations
smiley19.gif
however there were other issues that he will be trying to correct at a prep school for a post grad year.

Thanks for the update.

The number one "issue" for Mauro is the amount of skin pigment. It is laughable Mauro wasn't offered due to "classroom issues" and run ins with the law. When you consider some Florida State affletes read at a second grade level , classroom "issues" are only an issue if the prospect is white. As for "run ins with the law" I also think that's laughable. Affletes are not exactly model citizens. Allen Iverson was in prison serving time for attempted murder when he was pardoned by the racist black VA governor Doug Wilder. Kevin Garnett had to move for SC to Chicago because he was wanted by the police for attempted murder.

At the NY HS track and field meet Mauro was one of the top finishers in both the 100 and 200. In Division II ,Mauro was second in 100 meters (10.77) and 200 meters (21.83). His 100 time would have been better if Mauro did not also run the 200. Edited by: jwhite96

WP just got a little trigger-happy. There seems to be a 50% troll rate for first posts these days.
This guy seems all good, though.
