I
think Kasper is one of the best atheletes in the NFL, and it is a shame
that the Cardinals and Broncos just ignored such an athletic
talent. Now he is in New England, where there is so much depth at
WR that he will not play much even without a Caste System in
place. At kick returner, he will see limited playing time because
Bethel Johnson is also an extrodinary athlete.

I just think people should take notice of Kevin Kasper. I hope he does not end up like Travis Jervey.

I'll be surprised if Kasper is on an NFL roster next season. He's been kicked around the league (the Seahawks also had him and quickly cut him) without ever getting a chance despite being a great athlete and a record setting receiver at Iowa, and also performing well in the NFL during his limited opportunities. Sadly, that's the way the NFL works.

I read where he set 3 all-time records at the combine in 2001, and ran a 4.44-40...He has good size good speed, I have always thought he should be at least a return man in the nfl, but no one wants to give him a chance.

KASPER got blacklisted because he's too flashy (jewellery, bleached hair, deep tan) appears in men's health magazines (this also didn't help JERVEY engraciate himself to HOLMGREN) and buddied up with ROMANOWSKI when he first came into the league with DEN...I think the ROMO thing is what really screwed him...it's no secret that ROMO was a real outspoken prick, and alot of players hated him (not just the black ones, but obviously they had a special hate on for him...) ROMO probably introduced him to the world of NFL politics and the other (black) players on the teamundoubtedly laid into him good for it, especially when ROMO went over to OAK. Plus, let's face it...what better name for promoting taunting than KASPER for a white player? He probably became disenchanted FAST, and has now decided to "DO THE JERVEY" and just ride out a few years using his gifts for picking up cheques on special teams...can't blame him. If he's careful, he'll emerge with a few veteran-minimum season cheques, and invest it in something other than crack and whores, as some players are wont to do.

You have made some very good points there. They do not
like flashy white guys.It could possibly upstage them.
Just look at Jeremy Bloom who after only playing 2 years
of college football was a superstar. He also skis in the
olympics/wins golds by the way,and has speed like Tim
Dwight. He has his own website, models, and won the Super
Stars Competition easily last year against the best
athletes in the world.By the way,he won the 100 meter
dash with ease in the fastest time ever recorded at
the competition. He has his own website at
JeremyBloom.com I hope after next years winter olympics
that he hangs up his skis and forces his way into the
nfl.Don't be suprised if they don't want him.He is too
cool/good looking/marketable,etc. for the black athletes
to handle.They don't want a white guy with a ego.The
closest thing we have now is Jeremy Shockey.I love how
he won't take crap from anyone ever!He walks the walk!

With his luck, Kasper's middle name is probably Keith, or Karl. All those K's in his name, to go along with blonde hair. Poor guy never had a chance to be a star in the NFL and probably still doesn't have the first inkling why.

That would be hilarious, but his middle name is Joseph; he's got his own website...kevinkasper.com...found it there...lots of other revealing details in here...not surprisingly, he was a walk-on at Iowa...if somehow KASPER should ever read this forum...

Grow out your natural hair color and stop with the tanning and jewellery and maybe your hillbilly coaches and coordinators will take you seriously...try hanging out with Drew BENNETT or Brandon STOKLEY a bit, and maybe it'll rub off...

Kasper signed with Houston three days ago. The Texans need help at WR, but then again so has every other team Kasper has been kicked around on. Maybe this will be the time he gets an opportunity. Hope springs eternal. . .

I was listening to the local (Houston) sports talk radio station and they said the Texans coaches are very impressed with Kevin. I don't put a lot of hope into what they say since Houston is one of the most white unfriendly teams in the league.

Steve,
I agree with you, but what team in the NFL ISN'T white unfriendly? Saying an NFL team isn't white friendly is kinda redundant.

Kasper had two catches for 7 yards. Not quite as bad as it sounds as Houston only had 140 passing yards. Eight receivers had one reception, Kasper and one other guy had two receptions, so he actually tied for the team lead in number of catches.

Hard to believe a guy like Kasper can't make it with the Broncos, yet they just moved Jerry "Geriatric" Rice to third WR on the team.

Nobody was better than Rice back in the day, but there are plenty of guys who are better than him now, and plenty of them are white - but they'll never see the field.

I was looking at the Depth Chart for the Texans.Kasper is listed as the 5th wide receiver. They don't even have him listed as a return man.I either see him being cut again or playing special teams.I feel so bad for this kid.

I watched the Texans/Cowboys game tonight and Kevin played the whole second half. I watched him on every play and got to analyze his performance. Overall he did a good job, his speed was very good, and routes were crisp. If he has a weakness it is in his blocking. His downfield blocking was pretty bad and on a team like the Texans that like to run the football, that could hurt his chances. Everything that I have heard locally is that the coaches like him and want him on the team. I think he will make it, but will not get a lot of playing time. Too bad because he is a great athlete.

he wasn't done any favors in that game either, having the no-talent tony banks hanging him out to dry so he took several big hits trying to make plays. speaking of backwards...tony banks is still in the league while a phenomenal athlete like Kasper is fighting for a roster spot? how messed up is that?

Kasper is on the Lions roster (thank god for Mike Martz). He had 4 catches for 46 yards (11.5 avg) and a TD against the Bangals last week. The pundits in Detroit are not giving him much credit, and saying he won't make the team

I don't think he will make the roster mostly because of salary concerns, he's been around a while, but I think Martz likes him, he's smart and a terrific athlete, if he doesn't make the practice roster I'd be surprised and I expect him to be on the regular roster eventually with injuries and all.

I don't think Kasper is eligible for the Practice Squad anymore b/c he has been in the league too long. Kasper the 3 cone record holder and star college receiver is scorned by the NFL. Kasper the friendly white ghost hasn't made too many friends...oh well. I think he could be another Kevin Curtis if given the chance.

from Browns camp:

"The most eye-catching player was receiver Kevin Kasper, a five-year veteran free agent who spent last season with the Detroit Lions. He showed some quickness and made impressive catches over the middle, even drawing mention from quarterback Derek Anderson"

My God - this guy just doesn't give up.
I admire his determination and persistence in putting himself through another camp and selection process. It is not just the physical strength needed, he must have great emotional/mental strength after the disappointments and let downs he has suffered from the NFL.
I wish him luck
