Jaw Dropping Highlights

Petrino was visiting the high school to recruit this player. He had no interest in any no-name white receiver. Kane's high school coach wouldn't let him leave until he looked at film of Kane. Without those strong-arm tactics, Kane would've ended up returning punts in the Sun Belt. The lesson here is that nation-leading measurables and Matrix-like highlight reels are of no value to white football players. D1A coaches have to be bullied or pressured into evaluating white kids, preferably while still on school grounds where they can't pretend they watched the video and send an email saying "He's not the type of athlete we're after."
Kane might still end up on special teams. Rumors from connected sources have suggested this. But it will be more difficult for them to discriminate against him if enough people have seen what he can do. He's clearly as skilled as the best receivers Arkansas has on their roster. If he doesn't get a chance to play that position, Petrino will owe everyone an explanation (no matter how ridiculously false it ends up being).

Damn I get nervous seeing him go to Arkansas. I would have much rather Northwestern grow a pair and recruit a stud white receiver like they used to. Coach Fitzgerald has been pretty fair at his time at Northwestern but it seems like their last two draft classes have been full of afflete WRs..

And wow his opening catch he shows what type of ability he has! Clearly a D1 athlete yet he only has 1 scholarship offer and the kids high school coach had to beg Petrino to check out his tape. This is why I'm on castefootball. Wake up people!

One of the best highlights I've seen. Not trying to be down on the kid, but the 2.85 GPA. We know how it is with whitey, we've got to cover all our bases. I'm thrilled he's going to Arkansas, but our boys have got to be strong everywhere. I want to win in every aspect, athletics and intelligence.

Go Pig Suey!!!!!!!! Did I say that right? I am in carolina!

Congrats, Kane, make us proud!

Yes Marc Mauro, but particularly Nile Knapp were outrageous hate crime snubbings. I still have plans to flood message boards and do articles about those two as it may not be too late with enough knowledge about them and pressure. It's still a long shot though. Also don't forget to fight for Cory McCaffrey's shot in the NFL if he continues to statistically dominate for Portland State with his measureables and resume. I'd like to see a dwid highlight of Cory to know for sure though.

This Whitehurst kid looks to be playing in the higher high school competition levels in Tennessee 4A? I'll trust you guys on his film as I don't have time to watch it now.

Mr. Whitehurst has walked-on at The University of South Carolina, but is ineligible for the 2012 season. I hope he gets his act together!

don't be surprised if Kane Whitehurst makes a big splash in the SEC over the next year or two ... his legend at South Carolina is already growing.

after being kicked off the team at Arkansas (allegedly for smoking marijuana) in a "show of discipline" by former head coach Bobby Petrino, Whitehurst transferred to South Carolina. a walk-on because of SEC rules about intra-conference transfers (apparently), Whitehurst spent last year as a redshirt and used it to recover from a shoulder injury.

the "shocking" news about Whitehurst, though, is that he is the second-fastest player on the team. a snippet from a recent write-up:
South Carolina has had their fare share of talented walk-on's and each fall is it a treat to see if an unknown name can ascend the depth chart and achieve greatness. This is the (possible) prologue to one of those stories.

The (possible) Legend of Kane Whitehurst

A few days ago at the end of fall conditioning a ripple of a rumor took shape and erupted out of the depths of the Game**** Twitterverse and message-boards that two Game****s ran a 4.3 second 40 yard dash during Fall conditioning. The first was world-caliber sprinter Damiere Byrd, obviously the fastest man on the team, but who would be this intrepid unknown? Surely it couldn't be Clowney (he was 0.4 seconds slower...*lolwut?*), perhaps it was David Williams, the new running back on campus?

Enter Kane Whitehurst. A RS Sophomore with a B.A. name and enough speed to go with it.

Let that soak in...say his name several times and let the syllables melt into your cranium because he may be another walk-on legend in the making (it just took you around 4.4 seconds to read that last sentence, by the way). Now a 4.4 40 is not extremely rare on the college football field, but a 4.3 is definitely a head turner, and most of the time players who have the physical ability to run a 4.3 are highly touted, not "under the radar" as Kane is, and certainly not a walk on. Naturally then, you're probably scratching your head about why you haven't heard more about him.

you can read the entire article (including the requisite Rudy nonsense) here: http://www.garnetandblackattack.com/2013/8/2/4575976/the-possible-legend-of-kane-whitehurst

and here are a couple of snippets from another article, including some comments from the coaching staff:

Little by little, South Carolina fans are getting to know about walk-on wide receiver Kane Whitehurst.

Many, by now, have heard he’s fast. Very fast. At the conclusion of the Game****s’ summer conditioning drills, Whitehurst was the second-fastest player on the team with a sub-4.4-second 40-yard dash. Only wide receiver and USC sprinter Damiere Byrd was faster.

...

“He does a lot of good things,†Spurrier Jr. said. “I’m looking forward to getting into scrimmages and letting him go. He’s a smart kid, and he’s fast. He can really, really run. He’s the type of guy you like to have on the field.â€

...

Whitehurst has been “a model student-athlete†since arriving at South Carolina, coach Steve Spurrier said.

“Like a lot of college kids, sometimes something happens, and it was time to move on,†Spurrier said. “There’s a chance he could help us.â€

hopefully, this will be a breakout year for him. he is a redshirt sophomore.
