While the National Championships were going on this weekend in Eugene, the Junior National Championships (under 20yrs old) were also happening.
Mia Brahe-Pedersen competed in the 100m and 200m, and took 2nd in each event, missing the gold medal each time by a very slim margin.

In the 100m she ran 11.09 (2.4w) vs. 11.07 for first place. She ran a wind legal 11.25 in the heats.
In the 200m she ran 22.98 (-0.6) vs. 22.93 for first place.

Let's remember that she just finished her sophomore year of high school (age 15-16), and was competing against college athletes (or college aged athletes) at these Jr. Championships. I really think she will be the next Abby Steiner.

Meanwhile, Brandon Miller ran 20.47 for 2nd in the Men's 200m. (also 5th in the 100m - 10.42)
Ashton Schwarztman ran 45.16 for 2nd in the Men's 400m.

Great times from all the young guys and girls. Yes I agree Mia Brahe-Pederson has that Steiner Swagger and talent. Hope she isn't a sprinter that peaks early and disapears. That happens more with black sprinters than white sprinters on
the average as blacks physcially mature quicker than any other ethinicty. Once whites catch up it's game on. She is already incredible and an amazing talent. If she has the normal upside too then wow she will compete for olympic medals someday.

The winner in the 200m just completed her freshman year in college so at least a 2-3 year gap in age. Well done Mia as a wind legal 22.98 at her age is blazing blazing fast!

16 yr old Marek Zakrzewski of Poland, set a Championship Record in the semi-finals of the European Under 18 Championships.
His time was 10.33 with almost no wind (0.6).
Hoping he comes through with the gold in the finals!

Marek Zakrzewski followed up his Championship Record from the semi-finals, with another CR in the finals, winning the gold in a time 10.32 (0.6w).
Congratulations to the 16 year old!
He's the fastest high schooler in Europe.

Sensational times and under the highest pressure. It shows not only talent but the maturity of someone alot older than 16. This reminds me of Kristofer Hari. To run those times at that young of an age could be the
start of something special. Or he could be an early maturer but we will have to wait and see. I remember Samson Purola of Finland ran great times as a teenager and then went downhill afterwards.

Let's hope that Marek Zakrewski is the real deal. So far he has the looks, talent and swagger of an elite sprinter. This is exciting. Can't wait to see the videos!

This is so great! I'm pumped as 2 of the 3 medalists were our guys. I was expecting Roko Farkas of Croatia to medal as he had the fastest under 18 100 meters time coming into the championships. He finished in 5th
place which is still very good. In addition to Zakrzewski, the German Sprinter Thomas Benedikt Weinstein also looks like the real deal.

What it best about Zakrzewki is that he is only 16 years old while the other medalists are 17 and even Farkas is 17. So Zakrzewski is the best at a younger age. It makes the gold medal even sweeter.

Let's hope some of these guys have their own threads here on this great track message board. Then we will know they are truely world class. I have a good feeling about 2 or 3 of these young guys!

don’t forget about Alejandro Rueda of Spain, either. he came in 4th place with the same time (10.44) as the third-place finisher ... and he’s actually a couple weeks younger than Zakrzewski!

our guys actually took 4 of the top 5 spots in the 100m.

not to be outdone, in the girls 100m hurdles Mia McIntosh of Great Britain set a championship record, running 13.05, with 15-year-old Sofia Pizzato of Italy taking third (13.33) and setting a national u18 record in the process. wow! she is certainly a youngster to watch out for in future.

I'm just glad the Swede didn't win.
He was cocky and full of himself in the heats.
Today he was served some humble pie!

in the boys 200m opening heats, the three fastest performers were all our guys, including 16-year-old Italian Eduardo Longobardi whose 21.18 was well clear of the rest of the field. there’s still a lot of running left to go, but our guys have made a nice start.

Zakrzewki is the Polish All Time Under 18 200 Meters Record Holder. He could have easily won the double if the events weren't so close together. He is gonna be a stud in the 100 & 200 meters for the future. That's where he is far superior
to some of the other guys who were young but never got better. So many sprinters only focus on the 100 meters. When a guy can do both events it really shows class and incredible speed endurance!

Eduardo Longobardi set a championship record in the semifinals of the boys 200m, running 21.04. he went a little too hard, however, as he was nipped in the final and took second place overall, running 21.22. M Gorzkowicz took third with a personal-best of 21.34.

David Garcia of Spain set a new championship record in the boys 400m, running a blistering 46.67, more than a full second ahead of second place, Arpad Kovacs of Hungary (47.87). third went to Adrian Wojciak, who posted a personal-best 48.13. second and third are both just 16 years old.

15-year-old Charlotte Henrich (Great Britain) won the girls 400m, running a personal-best 53.54.

interestingly, only one out of all the participants in the two 400m finals was of the “electrifying fast” type of athlete ...

Mia McIntosh could just be the next Sally Pearson in the 100 Hurdles someday. What an epic performance. Thanks for posting that Jimmy Chitwood.

I was looking at the European Under 20 Top Lists in the Mens 100 Meters. Marek Zakrzewki is ranked 3rd even on that list and he is only 16 years of age. Another thing to consider is that he ran times
in the low 10.30's three times and with little wind. That obviously means it's not a one off and he can replicate this again in the future. I also like his speed endurance as he has proved he can run rounds.
This kid could really become the male face of Polish Sprinting in the next 8 to 10 years. We might just be looking at the male version of Ewa Swoboda! :)

I watched this race 'live' online, and Henrich came storming through from way back to win the race in the last 100m.
But what's even more impressive is this 15 yr old had never even run an official 400m until 1 month ago!
So in one month's time she went from having never raced at 400m, to being the fastest high schooler in Europe!!
Incredible story.

When the race is available, I will post it.

I have to say he is an impressive 16 y old, glad the negro did not win. He is too full of himself lol When Zakrzewski learns how to exe4cute his drive phase properly he will be much quicker. Here's hoping he continues to develop. The German kid has a terrible haircut lol but has alot of potential being so tall at his age.

Great to see ....still think there’s untapped sprinting talent in central Eastern Europe ....at 16yrs running 10.3s ....what interests me is how euro athletes beat plenty of black American and Caribbean athletes up to u20s ....
And then something happens ...ie drugs ...so until the iaaf put in a bio passport it will continue ....
Athletes should have to prove they are clean before competing ....
I am sure the usatf et al would have a few issues with that ....
Anyhow ..great win for Poland .....will be interesting to see how he comes along the next 1/2yrs ....
