Gehrig Dieter biggest receiving game EVER!

[Electric Slide]

Saw a link on ESPN showing Gehrig Dieter of Washington High School in South Bend, IN just set the national high school single game receiving record with 447 receiving yards. Yes, that's in one game. I don't care how bad the defense is, that is still an exceptional performance never attained by a high school athlete prior to last night. After 3 games, Dieter has 1166 yards and 11 TDs.

So far he has offers from Akron, Ball State, Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Northern Illinois, SMU, Toledo and Western Michigan. No offers from his hometown team Notre Dame or any other BCS conference schools.

Note: Gehrig is named after hall of fame Yankees first baseman Lou Gehrig.

Just found out Notre Dame has offered the RB from Washington HS, but not Dieter. What are the Irish thinking????

I wish I had the time, maybe I will this weekend, but this kid's story is perfect for a castefootball front page article. I've been reading blogs about this kid and DWFs pontificating on the mysterious reason this kid has no scholarship offerings (though I did read that SMU just offered). The mental gymnastics the DWFs do in explanation would sprain my medulla oblongata. Off the top of my head they have: he's arrogant and selfish, his father is an pushy arsehole, I heard he refuses to answer his phone, maybe his grades are bad, his competition is weak, etc it goes on and on. Of course there's not a grain of truth to any of these such rumors and guessed upon reasons. And, of course, we all know that scholarships never go affeletes with any of these attributes anyway. They dare not discuss the rather large white elephant in the room.

People always want to come up with a legitimate excuse for why numerous white athletes have been ingnored, but there really is no good excuse. Prospects slip through the cracks all the time, and highly touted athletes are often simply guys that are propped up and given every chance to succeed. To be far, black prospects get ignored as well, but not nearly to the same extent that white athletes do. Even if Gherig kid is a less than stellar student, Notre Dame has every resource available for their students to succeed, and especially so for athletes. Hopefully he will start getting BCS AQ conference offers soon.

They have this kid listed at 6'3 and 200lbs running a 4.6 40 so he's a big, physical receiver. I'm surprised at the number of schools that have offered him. Then again, offers mean nothing in long run. The schools have to actually give the kid an opportunity to play. As usual though he's only the 98th ranked receiver in the country.

SMU is the only big D1 school to offer and only recently after his last record breaking game. The kid plays for a High School in South Bend. He's not exactly hidden away in podunk USA. Black prospects who lead the nation in receiving and have similar measurables don't "slip through the cracks". Not ever. White kids do slip through "all the time." That's the one and only reason.
