Martz intends to run a wide open offense, utilizing 3 or 4 WRs often. Furrey should get a lot of looks in this type of offense. I've already seen a couple mentions to the Lions as possessing the most explosive WR group in the league. When you have a guy who caught 98 balls as your third receiver I would hope it would be!

Furrey lobbied for getting Calvin Johnson. He said that Martz' playbook was limited last season, as only he and Roy Williams were the only decent WRs on the team. I posted the link in the draft thread, I think.

I agree. You are the number two receiver on the team and you lobby for them to use their top draft pick on a receiver. I'ts crazy.

Or he feels this is the best way for the team to win. He has already proven his ability as a first tier receiver, perhaps he is looking more at the big picture.

I think Furrey will have 30 less catches but his avg will go up a few yards. With his 'smarts' he's much better suited to the slot then the other 2 guys.

Calvin Johnson is a freak. If detroit uses three widouts Furry will have single coverage on a nickle back or safty and should be able to run wild.

A agree with you. I just returned from a local hardware store that I have been hanging out in since spring arrived. I don't know why, but nothing spells fun like discussing the most advantageous chemical ratios found in weed andfeed lawn treatments. Then I mosey over to the wood crafting section and wind up talking to some old-timers with beer bellies, pencils behind their ears and bib overalls. I love it. It's like an urban oasis. I never see blacks in these areas. Oh, they do pop in and out of the big box stores like Home Depot to get barbecue tongs and lawn chairs.

So, I'm feeling right with the worlduntil I hear some hip-hop blaring away. I turn to my right andnotice a car wash - fund raiser in the parking lot of a bank. This is the new trend in our suburbs. The local church groups encourage business owners to sponsor these activities for inner-city teens. Good hearted, stupid white people wait in line to get a lousy wash andfork over even more of their hard earned cash to minorities. Gus and Betty drive off basking in the glow of the experience, not realizing that Tyrone has slipped daughter Beth his phone number. Nine months later they become the proud grandparents of a crack baby named Dumarcus.

There are so many older white people paying the price for their racial unloyalty and cowardice in defense of their own culture. I see it all the time, and I'm sure you all do too. Just yesterday there was an older white guy herding a gaggle of half-black kids around at the McDonald's playland, he looked miserable. I knew the deal too, he was taking care of his daughters illigetimate offspring. Mommy was off collecting a welfare check or breeding another one and grampa was left as the daycare provider.

I know of a couple of white sluts whose whole life revolves around finding another black man to bang her while she tries to raise a few half-breeds on her own with our (the tax-payers) money.

This snippet about Furrey is from a team by team report on a fantasy football site. It may not be as bad for Furrey as it first appeared when the Lionsdrafted Calvin Johnson:

WR Mike Furrey campaigned for the team to draft WR Calvin Johnson despite the fact Furrey would lose his starting job. With Johnson and Roy Williams starting, Furrey will move to the slot and have more room to operate underneath and could catch more than 100 passes this season. Furrey has more quickness than speed, but he makes an impact through the precision of his routes and his knack for setting up defenders.

i think it sucks that he wont be listed as a starter but he will really start because you know martz is gonna use mostly 3 wr sets with those guys...i expect he'll still get like 80 catches+...could be similar to stokely of a couple years past...its not ideal that he's in the slot but ill still take a white guy getting that number of grabs.

Furrey may still catch a lot of balls next season, but the important point is that HE lobbied for the team to draft his replacement. That's completely ridiculous, and no black in the history of any sport would even think of doing such a thing. It really says a lot about the lack of ego, competitive drive and simple self-respect that we see in every white player.

Didn't Keyshawn Johnson successfully lobby for his team todraft his replacement? What color is he? Mauve?

Didn't Jake Reed successfullylobby for hisVikings to draft his replacement in Randy Moss? After 4seasons of 1175, 1167, 1320, and 1138 yards as Chris Carter's sidekick? Remember his excitement over "3-Deep"? What color is he? Magenta?Edited by: Detroit Lions

Is this the same Keyshawn Johnson who was so upset that the Jets dared to do what no other NFL team would dowhen they gavean unknown white receiver from a small program a chance to play thatin his self-promoting book he went out of his way to denigrateWayne Chrebet and call the Jets"racist" for playing him?

Is this the same Keyshawn Johnson who has continually verbally assaulted coaches and teammates, been for all intents and purposes kicked off a team because of his disruptive behavior, and who is one of the NFL's poster boys for selfishness? Troll, you really need to work on writing at least semi-credible posts.

Detroit Lions,

There is a huge difference between Keyshawn Johnson being supportive of his team drafting a younger version of himself, so that he could "mentor" him, and Furrey asking his team to draft someone to start over him. He certainly wouldn't have been happy if Carolina instantly annointed the rookie a starter and consigned him to a 3rd WR role. That's what Furrey had to know will happen, without question, in Detroit (Johnson will start and he will become the 3rd WR). As for Jake Reed, I'd love to see some evidence that he "lobbied" for the team to draft Randy Moss BEFORE they did. Moss slipped in the draft, and thus it is unlikely that Reed was "lobbying" the team to take him prior to the draft. Most players, black and white, will express support fot the players their team drafts, even when it may adversely effect their playing time. I suspect that Reed's fondness for the 3 WR set the Vikings employed with great success came well after Moss was drafted, and he realized he'd still see a lot of balls coming his way. Find an example of a black player in his prime, coming off the kind of season Furrey had last year, who pushed for his team to draft a rookie would who instantly take away his starting job, BEFORE the NFL draft. I watched the week37 video about Mike Furry on the NFL website. I can't believe Furrey failed to get a college scholorship, if he were black he'd get one straight away. The way the presenter made a big deal out of how suprising his brilliant statistics were last season was annoying and the way he gets called a 'white boy' by his teamate Roy Williams just sums it up. Also getting cut by the Colts in 2000 and not getting a fair chance at the Rams just shows what a rough time Mike has been through despite clearly being one of the most talented WR in the NFL today. I might be stating the obvious here to all of you as you are all used to this kind of treatment to talented white players, but for me as a new fan to the NFL and not living in America it really just sums up the caste system for me! Best of luck to Mike he's a qaulity guy who deserves a lot more.

He doesn't get called a "white boy" by Roy Williams, who is actually quite complementary about Mike Furrey. He says that there is no one he would rather play with. He was quoting an opposing defensive back who asked him where did you find the "white boy". I don't know if the term is derrogatory in the U.S. or not - just that it wasn't said by Williams.

Roy Williams may have issued some token compliments about Furrey, but he has spent a lot of effort in getting him replaced in the starting lineup. For much of last season, he lobbied publicly for the team to be playing slow, atrocious bust Mike Williams opposite him. Then, he lobbied as hard or harder than Furrey himself for the Lions to draft Calvin Johnson. Must keep that "white boy" in his 3rd receiver place.

Yeah Keyshawn Johnson, that poster boy for unselfish team players!

If what DL says is true about Jake Reed then it's just a big fat example of why it's a really DUMB idea! How did that 'draft Randy Moss' work out for your career Jake? Guess it wasn't such a good idea for your long term investment strategy was it???

Check the stats, when Moss arrived Jake's stats went into the pooper and Reed soon followed.

Don't be too hard on Detroit Lion though, it might be Mike Furrey's internet alias!

from rotoworld:

Mlive.com believes Mike Furrey will start for the Lions following Roy Williams' injury.

Make sure he's owned in your league. Calvin Johnson appeared to be back in the Detroit doghouse Sunday, so Furrey could start opposite Shaun McDonald. Either way, all three wideouts will see increased snaps and targets, helping their fantasy value against a challenging schedule. Furrey caught seven passes in Week 13.
