FSU Recruiting White RB?

Please take a seat because this is extremely shockingconsidering Booby Bowden's opinion regarding white rbs. Believe it or not, the site also suggests that Miami is also recruiting the lad from Florida's panhandle. Growing up in North Florida, I have seen the first hand treatment of the white athlete and it sickins me. I have almost given up rooting for my alma mater (UF) because of the darkening trend that has occurred over the years. Hopefully, Urban Myer will reverse the trend because of his experiences at Utah with many exceptional white players such as defensive back Waddle. (who Myer told Kirk Herbstreit would start on the mighty Gators' blacked out defense) Anyway, please excuse the rambling, as I have many thoughts about this issue and have had very few willing listeners to talk to.

Rednose, welcome to Caste Football. This would indeed be a huge surprise, but as we all know, recruiting a guy and playing or starting him are two totally different things. It is odd that Chance Attaway is listed as a FB but projected to be a RB. We'll have to keep an eye on him.

On the link it says that no schools have offered him a scholarship yet, and their interest level in him is "medium." And like Reb noted, going from FB to RB is unusual to say the least. It may be a typo. Don't mean to be negative, but until it a white kid actually gets a chance. . . anyway welcome to Caste Football, REDNOSE.

I noticed that he was projected to make the transition to rb and thought that weird as well. Most white runners are either told to switch positions or bulk up to fullback. On a side note, I was searching for more information on this particular player and on another site had his projected position as safety. Now that sounds more like it! Anyway, both of you make good points about no scholorship being offered. I understand how the white athlete has been relagated to begging for a scholorship at these prestigious universities and I seriously doubt that Saint Bobby will have a caucasion running aroundin the backfield. Anyway, thanks for the welcome and I look forward to being able to post on a regular basis.

None of the schools purportedly showing interest in him will give him a shot at rb. Stand-out white rbs need to promote themselves to schools where they might at least have a fighting chance. What happens is that players like Attaway are scooped up by the FSU's and such and then put through the conversion process and become born-again safetys, tightends and fullbacks.

Not that there are any places hospitable to white RBs but the white, wannabe a Div. 1 RB, high schoolers need to get themselves to Colorado State not Florida State. You'd think that they would be able to see what they are up against but the euphoria of being recruited by a big program and the hubris of youth blind them to reality.

Very well said. These guys are so young and, most likely, very naive. It's too bad they don't have people in their lives who can steer them in the right direction. People who are worldly and cynical and who know how the system works. It must feel great (at first anyway) to go to some big, "hallowed" program, especially one close to home that they grew up idolizing, but I'm sure that fades once they find themselves camped out on the sidelines for most of their careers.

In a perfect world these white players would flat out reject teams that want to convert them to fullback, no matter how much they love that school, and simply swamp the more hospitable DI schools. They need to study all these teams, find the ones that play white players at their positions, and reject the ones that don't. The teams that don't play white players at certain positions should be punished. What better way to punish them? I can't think of any.

But how many 18 year old young men have that kind of foresight, cynicism, and, of course, awareness of the racial dynamics swirling all around them? Or someone in their lives with that insight?

The Caste System in football won't end until the most prominent programs start giving out scholarships to white players at the "taboo positions," but you gotta start somewhere. It's not going to happen for them in those programs... yet. Edited by: JD074
