Elispeedster,
My coach, who was an olympic finalist, always preached that it was about getting a lane. If you get a lane then you are in the race. And on the day of the race anything can happen. A coach doesnt need to be blowing smoke up his athletes assess, but a coach should never tell his athletes to settle for third place when they have earned the right to be in the same race from which the winner will come and where anything can happen. I remember when Carraz said that and part of me wanted to throw up while the other part wanted to cry and then go kick Carraz's ass.

I'm guessing none of us really know what happens inside of Carraz's camp and what exactly Lemaitre's strength training regime is or is not, but we do know the statements he makes to the media. And that statement to me clearly signifies that he has taken Lemaitre as far as he can. A championship level coach who's goal is to take his athletes to the top of the podium would never make those statements. Having made those statements it is impossible for them not to have an effect on the mindset during training.

I been saying this for years, but we have Mr. RCSMAN to contradict us every chance he gets even after 5 years of 'It will come, you shall see'.

This year from the few photos I have seen of him he looks even bigger across the shoulders and traps. That still doesn't mean he lifting to his max ability but he is putting in some work. I have seen many sprinters in the past get stronger and not get faster and even marginally regress.

I always felt that Carraz was training Lemaitre for the 200 meters but because of sponsorship and the media he just never has stated as much. His training ideas seem like something Pietro Mennea would have used.
Lemaitre should just focus on the 200 as he has better chances. When he doesnt live up to his potential in the 100 meters (which is rather consistent) it just demoralizes him and carries over to the 200...Although, the last few years, he has a hard time making the top 5 in the 200, that is if he even makes the final...thanks Pierre.

Why leave 100m ? Do 100 has no influence to good perf in 200m. Do you think Bolt Could run under 19 secondes if he just focus on 200 ? Michael Johnson ran close to 19.00 if he left 400 ? I dont think so.
Even if Lemaitre run just 10.05 this year he must do 100m in Olympic Games. Do 100m in OG is the best for a sprinter, if he loose in semi, no problem he has had a good confrontation and prepare him for his semi of 200.
Maybe you will say: "And Injury ?" A sprinter can't think : "it's possible i will hurt me if i run", its a no sense of sport.

So at the risk of being verbally assaulted I read the article and learned that running the curve in lane 2 is literally a "pain-in-the-ass"for Christophe. He is burdened with a painful lane 2 memory from last year, where due to his inability to fully deploy his stride in that lane, he injured his butt. Sharp curves = soreassus gluteus maximus. Ok fair enough, he wants to avoid injury. I hope he learns how to run those inside curves though, because in the championships he won't be able to negotiate his lane draw.

Lemaitre and his Master Coach always have an excuse...I dont buy it...Its fear that Vicaut can beat him in his strongest race. Caraz has destroyed Lemaitres confidence.

I have to agree with elispeedster. Lemaitre tends to not want to face world class competition until he is forced to. This is an olympic year yet he is racing against guys he knows he can beat. He needs better competition but neither him or the coach seem to have the desire to ever change. Love the kid but such a waste of very rare elite talent.

Or conversely he's preserving this delicate flowers confidence. Without insiders knowledge we can only speculate as to what "seems" to be overly protective. I can have two children and discipline one with rigor and the other delicately (due to a certain "knowledge") which the casual observer can take as sparing the rod and spoiling that child, but which I the parent (coach) knows is what's best for my, say - autistic child. Just an example.
So, perhaps each Carraz/Lemaitre campaign starts in the warm confines of his local surroundings, against easy competition, to once again build up his confidence, and bring him out of his psychological wabbit hole, to get ready for the harsh cruel world of nasty brutish negro competition.
I've previously commented on his countenance at the start line, and the gasping hyperventilation after the finish line, as tell-tale signs that indicate to me - a weak mental disposition (among some other observations).
Gasp! Could it possibly be that Carraz is actually a benevolent father figure who, ironically to the "outside observer," actually got the most one can expect from the fragile minded Christophe?!
I suspect that both Elispeedster & RCSMAN will not be happy with this "wildly speculative" opinion.

Some of us have previously speculated on Christophe's mental 'toughness' or lack thereof.
He does seem to be quite weak psychologically.
I have commented many times about his exhaustion and hyperventilation at the end of his races. I always wondered about his fitness, but I think you may be right, he might suffer from some sort of social/performance anxiety.
Perhaps Carraz had been wise to treat him with kid gloves, but it's been many years now. He needs to push Lemaitre to progress on these issues too, assuming they exist, and I think they do.

it's so stupid !

for your information, vicaut ran this day 20.83 !
You are always calling people stupid, very ignorant of you....Viacut will surpass Lemaitre in the 200 this year beacuse Vicaut has a better trainer and coach and is more confident! Vicaut and his coach do not strive for third place!

Lemaitre ran 10.18 (0.4w) at the French Club Championships.
I found the vid to the race
He looks bigger and his start seems to be better, but that could an illusion considering he is running against guys who cant break 10.5
The time could of been better, but the track looked wet and not sure of the temp during the race. Hopefully, it t should be more promising in the 200 meters
