Sorry for the tease. This tease has its roots in my middle school days in the 1st half of the '70s, when I was more of a hockey fan than at any time before or since (and in which the Phila. Flyers won their Stanley Cups). One day during that era, I obtained a preview magazine (long since disposed of) for the upcoming hockey season (maybe 72-73) that had, among other things, rosters for every NHL and WHA team (the WHA was brand new). There, I found one Cam Newton among the Pittsburgh Penguins' netminders.

Fast forward to 2010 and the "hype" over LSU's Cam Newton, and the Pens' Cam Newton came fairly quickly to my mind.
