Preferred walk on at Wisconsin. Somehow they can't find room to offer Ben after his monster year. He also has a youtube video Ben Ericksen's senior highlight film.

For the second time in less than a week Greendale. e wide receiver Ben Ericksen (6-1, 180) has received a Division I-FCS scholarship offer.

In a message sent to WisFootball.net on Sunday evening Ericksen simply said, "Illinois State called me and offered me a scholarship over the phone."

The No. 35 overall prospect and No. 2 wide receiver in the WisFootball.net player rankings, Ericksen had previously garnered scholarship offers from North Dakota State and South Dakota and a preferred walk-on invite from the University of Wisconsin.

Ericksen is the sixth known state prospect to earn a scholarship offer from the Redbirds this recruiting cycle joining Arrowhead kicker Jeff Budzien, Hartford Union linebacker Tyler Dippel, Arrowhead offensive lineman Jared Volk, Milwaukee Riverside running back Ryan Givens and Medford defensive lineman Ethan Hemer.

Ericksen was named the Wisconsin Gatorade Player of the Year, WFCA first-team all-state, Associated Press unanimous first-team all-state, WFCA all-region, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel first-team all-area, CNI Newspapers all-suburban, CNI Newspapers all-suburban Player of the Year, first-team all-conference and Woodland Conference Offensive Player of the Year.

He finished his senior season with 69 receptions for 1,335 yards and 19 touchdowns.

Also an exceptional track and field athlete, Ericksen finished in third place in the long jump at last year's state track and field championships with a jump of 22-07.00. He was also a sectional qualifier in the 100 meter dash (11.54) and 200 meter dash (22.85).

He has offers from NDSU, Southern Illinois, and a preferred walk on from UW. Last year Bradie Ewing (now 4th string rb on the Badgers) was in the same position as Wisconsin Gatorade POY. It will be interesting whether or not he will tak e the same path and walk-on like Ewing, or take the same route Justin Juckem did and take the D1aa offer.

*Note- i am not sure how accurate his 40 time is.

The guy would have to have a major 20 yard burst to run the 40 in a legit 4.49 with only 11.54 100 meter track speed, but from the looks of it it could be the truth.

He looks pretty dominant!

Ben has this to say about Wisconsin.

"I can't afford it so I don't know what I am going to do, most likely I'll go to a D1AA (FCS) school," Ericksen said about the Badgers' walk-on offer. "I was pretty disappointed because I know I am good enough to play D1 ball at a lot of colleges. It just sucks they didn't offer me."

Couldn't say it any better myself. just sucks. but thats how it works i guess.

Best of luck to Ben wherever he goes though, the highlights were spectacular. Thanks celticdb.

Nice quote of Ben(Blue Mentos)on not beinggood enough oops i mean black enough for the Badgers to be calling. I mean what do they expect just becuase he is white his parents have money for him to walk on at their college? Wisconsin is as caste as it gets white linemen,qb of course, some white lb's everything else is a black out.

i know. its quite dissapointing. wisconsin had a standout white WR (luke something?) a couple years ago (who of course, i believe, was a walk-on), so you'd think they would get the hint and start opening their eyes, but i guess not. its equally a big wonder why schools like central, eastern and western michigan didn't look at Ben.

Sorry Blue Mentos i just saw this. The Badgers had Luke Swan two or three years ago. He got the complete caste treatment. The announcers constantly said he "wasnt fast but knew how to get open". He got injured unfortunately and his very real shot at the NFL wne tdown the tubes

I stumbled across his highlight video again and still cant believe Wisconsin didn't offer him. The sad but true case of white skill position kids all over the country.Ben ran a 4.6 at a Northern Illinois camp and a 4.49 at the UW camp. Mhmh interesting.I'm going to try and track his career at Illinois State and hopefully he can continue to develop and hone those skills.

BTW* Blue Mentos where have you been buddy?? Edited by: celticdb15

Finished his career out at Free Safety 6'1 195. He had a team high 7 interceptions this season for Illinois State!

Good call from way back in 08' celticdb15!

Looking at his past...You would think Ben Ericksen have to grind it out & earn 53 man roster spot as a undrafted rookie free-agent? However with his Blazing 4.34 at Pro Day... At least one Draft Board has his stock rising projecting him as a possible late round pick?? This former WR turned DB could have a bright future in the NFL! One has to wonder if he were not so melanin deficient if he would not be drafted higher?? Didn't JJ Watt ask to "Walk-on" at Wisconsin as a former TE at Central Michigan?? Let the flood gates open!

Ericksen may have the best shot at being a late-round draft choice among the former Redbirds. The safety has size at 6-foot-1 and sub 4.4 second speed in the 40-yard dash. One stopwatch had Ericksen at 4.34 Friday
