The old saying goes that crisis is the health of the state, i.e. the state takes advantage of any crisis to increase its power at the expense of the people.
The current debt problem reverses the situation and puts the state in crisis. Look at the statists running to the media to declaim any limitations placed on their ability to spend without limits. They speak with the desperation of jangled junkies cut-off from a once reliable supply because that is exactly what they are, junkies who theive to get what the so desperately need.
Now that the state is in crisis I say press; put its testicles in a vise and twist. However, considering that the only real difference between the Democrats and the Republicans are their spending priorities, I have no doubt the GOP will blink and give in somewhere along the line. Still, I enjoy hearing the rats squeal for as long as it lasts.
