A call out in Detroit

This is from Mick McCabe, the Detroit Free Press' main prep sports guy. He's talking about a local black radio (and sometimes print) guy, who is very anti-white, like making a fool of himself when a white kid won Mr. Basketball a couple years ago. McCabe calls him out for an ignorant comment about the Detroit Public School League. It is a waste for competitive football teams, but they're all black, so they must be the best!

PSL: Pate's Simply Laughable

The High School Scoreboard Show returned to WDFN-AM (1130) last week and nearly caused the SOS to run off the road. Cohost Eric Pate mentioned the criticism he receives for talking so much about the Detroit Public School League. He then said that with four PSL schools closing, the PSL's Division I is as good as any league in the state, bar none. He said it ranks right up there with the Oakland Activities Association.

Where do we begin? While SOS was trying to keep control of his car while laughing hysterically, at least cohost Tom Markowski quickly corrected Pate and mentioned some leagues better than the PSL.

Seriously, the PSL's Division I isn't in the top 10 leagues in the state. Last week, it lost every game against an outside opponent. It is also one of the few leagues not to win a state championship.

Pate can believe whatever he wants, but the problem is Pate steers the conversation and once spent 90 minutes of the two-hour show on the PSL. Coaches and fans have told SOS that they have stopped listening, which is a shame because with a little tweaking (more Markowski, less Pate), it could be a terrific show.
