with training camps opening all over, i thought we can use one thread to report various things happening to white players. let me start off:

RB Kyle Eckel wasn't participating in Dolphins' first practice, slight harmstring injury

SS Steve Gleason was lost for a year, Saints put him on IR with a knee injury

other than Adam Treu there were no white players cut during the first pre-camp wave this week

Scott Fujita was miles ahead of any other LB in the group on Saints conditioning test (300 yards shuttles)

Good for Scott Fujita. This former Cowboy was one of a number of white linebackers that were showing their stuff at Valley Ranch but Dallas decided to go with real affletes so only Bobby Carpenter remains.Ex Southlake Carroll LB John Saldi is in camp but don't expect him to make the team.In fact Carpenter and Saldi are the only white players on defence in San Antonio and that includes camp pylons.Pathetic.The offence has more white guys and I'm personally pulling for Jerheme Urban but once again the chances are slim for him making the final cut.

It's sad to be a Cowboys fan these days. I did notice the other day that WR Urban was a signee and I hope he puts on a show in the preseason and makes the team.

DE Bill Swancutt was cut by the Lions the other day. At one time he was projected to be a 1st or 2nd round draft pick but ended up lasting till the 6th round. He didn't play much his rookie year (2005) then last year suffered a knee injury during training camp and was put on IR. Hopefully it's not the end of the line for him in the NFL. He was a beast at Oregon State.

latest development: apparently them white people went right over the limit of starting white receivers allowed for next season and Texans had to bring in Keenan McCardell to compete with Kevin Walter for number 2 receiver spot...
i was actually quite surprised that most of the people on Texans official website still want Walter to be their number two, both in opinions and in poll (27-10). chances are he will go into the season as number 3 and then take over from a 37 year old McCardell...

Rams camp:

Brian Leonard: From all accounts he split time with Jackson with the 1's, and looked decent, but he didn't do anything to stand out. As already mentioned on this board he is not FB size. And also he was faster than expected...wonder why ;)

Brian Leonard is going to do real good things in the league. There's not going to be any holding him back.
Even if they wanted to keep him down, somehow things will break his way and he'll get his shot.

Sabby Piscitelli is having a good camp with Bucs, he had 2 interceptions yesterday and tipped a ball to Barrett Ruud this morning.

Great news. I am a huge Sabby fan. Also is Ruud gonna start for the Bucs?

Also Rams camo update:

Dante Hall is getting more and more time at WR, meaning Drew Bennett is geting less. Dante obviously does not just want to be a KR/PR and he is pushing for serious time at WR, Drew needs to up his game.Edited by: GSOT

yes, Ruud is going to start this season, and i predict that Sabby will get a lot of snaps and eventually get to a starting lineup by game 8.

as for Rams, i am sure that Drew can hold off Dante Hall.

this is coming from a guy that's out there watching Rams camp:

"
Do you really think that Hall has a chance at the #3?

Honestly? Not much of one, not fulltime anyway. I don't think they'll give up on Bennett that easily, and I hope at some point that Bennett starts clicking with the QBs, which so far has yet to happen. And I think they like to play around with that 3rd receiver, sometimes its Klopf split out, sometimes its Hall. But if he keeps producing like this, then I think they'll find ways to get him in the game for more than just returning kicks.

But I'll put this way. So far, Bennett is more of a field-stretching guy than a shifty little slot guy a la Hakim. Hall looks more like that type of receiver than anyone we've had on the roster since 2001. He looks the way that McDonald was supposed to but never quite managed."

the same guy also has a great gallery of pics from Rams training camp

also, from what i read about Rams TC so far, Carriker has some rave reviews, he absolutely manhandled several players on Saturday!

Bears figure to have 4 white starters in Dvoracek at DT, Hillenmeyer and Urlacher at LBs and Archuleta at SS plus Dan Bazuin getting in on passing downs. Edited by: backrow

The idea that little Dante Hall could surpass Bennett is completely ludicrous, even for the NFL. Hall was terrible as a WR for the Chiefs. And what's this about Bennett "not clicking with the QBs" nonsense? All I'd been reading for some time was how Bulger and the coaching staff were raving about Bennett and what he brings to the team. Did Drew suddenly forget how to run routes or catch the ball? Maybe next we'll be hearing that the great Travis Minor or Kay-Jay Harris (take your pick) has been magnificent running the ball in camp while Brian Leonard looks lost and is unable to "bond" with his quarterbacks. What typical Caste media crap.

Don, read the thread from Rams forums that i linked to in Brian Leonard thread and you'll see much more of this kind of crap.

DraftDaddy linked a story that says Eagle rookie linebacker Stewart Bradley has a good shot at starting. http://www.delawareonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/200 70729/SPORTS02/707290429/1002/SPORTS

also, it looks like Jeremy Bloom's work in the weight room is paying off...

jeremybloom.jpg

and finally, how about this blurb from DraftDaddy that wraps it all up nice and neat...
Minnesota Vikings' wide receiver Troy Williamsonstill needs to prove he can catch the football.

in today's Caste System, somehow black skin is enough to overcome the basic requirements of a position. one, by definition, can not be a receiver if one can't catch.
smiley7.gif

Williamson tied for second most dropped passes in the NFL last year. from the article...
The first ball thrown to Troy Williamson on the first live drill of Minnesota's training camp this week traveled right through his hands.

Sarcastic laughs and comments burst from the bleachers, providing an audible reminder of the challenge Williamson has this season, trying to recreate a trust from Vikings fans and teammates that, yes, he actually can catch...

Through two seasons, he has only 827 yards and two touchdowns - and none last year. With the untested Tarvaris Jackson destined to be the starting quarterback and the similarly unproven Bobby Wade as the other receiver on top of Minnesota's depth chart, Williamson won't have anywhere to hide. He's being heavily counted on to help open up a passing game that was lifeless last season while the Vikings went 6-10...

Often reclusive in his first and second years, Williamson displayed a side of him that was confident, engaging and even boastful when a group of reporters asked him about his status among the fastest players in the league.

"I'm No. 1. You decide who No. 2 is," Williamson said.

It won't matter, of course, unless he can hang on to the ball.

it looks like it's going to be a looooooooong year in Minnesota.

good find Jimmy, from the article:

"HOOKUP OF THE DAY: Kevin Kolb hit second-year wide receiver Jeremy Bloom with a beautiful deep ball 50 yards down the right sideline during the afternoon 7-on-7 drills." let's hope this will be in cards for Eagles for the years to come!

LBs Bradley, McCoy, Gocong are all in the mix for Eagles and maybe we can have 2 of them starting at some point.

I never thought I'd write this, but if he useshis white talent in a fair wayAndy Reid's Eagleswill be a team to root for this season. Of course that's a big "but" and I don't mean Reid's.

Apparently at Rams camp Carriker is just flat out abusing people, he is gonna be a force on teh D-Line this year. Dont worry Drew WILL be a go to guy on this offense, i was just saying that Hall is pushing for time at WR.

Also i like this quote from Randy McMichael talking about Bulger:

"I've just been praying for the last five years to be able to play with a quarterback like Bulger, and I'm just going to out there and have a good time this season." Edited by: GSOT

It is weird to see the Eagles being "whitewashed" this year. There were reports in camp that they are considering bloom for WR if he keeps making big plays. They have been impressed by his speed, according to thier website.

The Eagles with two white wide receivers? Welcome to bizarro world.

According to the article I read yesterday,Bloom is currently running in the 4.2 to 4.3 range. He is blowing by all of their corners! Jeremy has the punt and kickoff returner pretty much locked up and will most likely see the field some at wide out.

"Rams | McGarigle injured Friday, could miss one week
Sun, 29 Jul 2007 13:57:30 -0700

Bill Coats, of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, reports St. Louis Rams LB Tim McGarigle (hamstring) pulled a hamstring Friday, July 27, and could miss as much as a week."
bad news for Tim, who's fighting for a roster spot...

"Bengals | Kilmer may miss more time
Sun, 29 Jul 2007 10:20:29 -0700

Geoff Hobson, of Bengals.com, reports Cincinnati Bengals WR Ethan Kilmer (quadriceps) may have re-injured his quadriceps and there is not a timetable for his return."
damn. he was suppose to work out as a safety and cornerback, this will lessen the chances of him getting time as a nickel or dime back...

From a fantasy football site:

Top 10 Veteran Battles

9. Cincinnati FS (Incumbent: Madieu Williams. Challenger: Ethan Kilmer)

It may seem shocking that Williams, an IDP fave since entering the league 4 years ago, might be at risk. But Williams actually hasn't done a whole lot since his rookie season of 2004. He missed most of 2005 and was not much more than average in his 2006 comeback. Kilmer is an all-around athlete out of Penn State, a 7th rounder in '06 who played mostly WR in college. After excellent special teams play as a rookie, he could be ready to challenge Williams, who will hold off Kilmer.
