    2024 Indoor Season

I agree that considering what he accomplished as a high school track prodigy Boling has definitely underperformed. So this begs the question why. In truth, and to keep this fair, track is an impossibly difficult sport and there are tons of very talented guys that fall short. Many of whom are...

    2024 Indoor Season

Agreed. I want to see Boling Run the 100m and 200m races and abandon the 400m. However, it doesnt make sense right now. Its an Olympic year and he is nowhere near competitive in the 100m so that relay team is most likely out. The 200m is maybe the most competitive event for the US men's...

    Matthew Boling 9.98, 19.92, 45.17 and 8.25 LJ

Alleyne Francique doesnt appear to be a bad coach. Obviously, Fred Kerley had tremendous success with him. They have however been together a long time starting back at Texas A&M. Kerley has just left Francique and is now going to train with Watt in California. That's too bad for Boling...

    Matthew Boling 9.98, 19.92, 45.17 and 8.25 LJ

Okay after a quick analysis of this past year, and looking at it as a whole, Boling's season can only be described as a complete **** show from a coaching perspective. ( I wont say disaster because he did win the indoor 200m national title in the world's fastest time and because he came away...

    Matthew Boling 9.98, 19.92, 45.17 and 8.25 LJ

Boling ran a 44.16 split in the semi-finals of the men's 4x400m competition. It was by far the fastest split by any of the US legs. He should have been in the final instead of Justin Robinson who split 44.52 in the semifinal. Well, that is if you believe in a meritocracy.

I think Jacknyc said it best. Its all that matters at the present. Honestly, his time was encouraging yesterday all things considered. The times were all slow for the whole meet. He beat Godwin and Patterson who are both low to mid 44-point runners. Concerning though is this: He finished...

    Matthew Boling 9.98, 19.92, 45.17 and 8.25 LJ

Boling is running the open 400m on Friday in the Ed Murphy Classic. Looks like he will have some good competition - his teammate Elija Godwin will be running along with Jacory Patterson and Trevor Bassitt. Evan Miller will be running as well. It would be nice to see all three, Boling, Bassitt...

    Matthew Boling 9.98, 19.92, 45.17 and 8.25 LJ

He'll split 43 in the relays. He's already done that on several occasions. What he's trying to learn right now is how to run an open 400m and that is quite different. If he breaks 45 in the open this summer it will help his brand. That doesnt mean that I'm saying the 400m is what he should...

    Matthew Boling 9.98, 19.92, 45.17 and 8.25 LJ

In the US if you finish in the top 6 of the 100 or the 400 you're on the relay team. The video was taken right after the final. Officially though I dont think the US has announced their World Team. His odds are greatly improved to actually run given that they have now added the mixed 1600m...

    Matthew Boling 9.98, 19.92, 45.17 and 8.25 LJ

I know we've all been disappointed with Bolin's overall performance here the last few years, but think his future is pretty bright. Odds are he goes to Worlds and picks up one or two relay gold medals. Hopefully he does get to participate in the preliminary round of the men's 4x400m. He...

    Matthew Boling 9.98, 19.92, 45.17 and 8.25 LJ

Exactly! The coaching or just the coach/athlete connection may not have been ideal for Boling at the University of Georgia, but unless someone here can truly claim to know the heart and mind of Caryl Smith Gilbert, or can at least point to some verifiable racist statement that she has made...

    Matthew Boling 9.98, 19.92, 45.17 and 8.25 LJ

The 100 and the 200m is definitely where Boling's future lies, but making a team regardless of event will help him. He physically could have run 44.5 at some point this season (maybe the beginning), but yeah if he wanted to be an elite 400m runner, then he needed to be building towards that in...

    Matthew Boling 9.98, 19.92, 45.17 and 8.25 LJ

I think you mean only three athletes have gone under 10, 20 and 44. 10, 20 and 45 is still impressive, but you would have to add to the list Tyson Gay, and Bednarek. Well all things considered Boling did the best thing for him in this Championships. He really had no chance in the 100m or 200m...

    2023 World Outdoor Season

looks like there was good wind for all of the 100m and 200m races at the meet. This means the 400m races went into the wind at the start - always bad for times. Maybe he was a bit too amped up on that first 100m and then had his strength sapped on the backstretch while going into the wind and...

    2023 World Outdoor Season

45.58 for Boling in the 400m to take second. At first that doesnt sound very good, but they gave his splits: 100m 10.68 200m 21.12 300m 32.69 400m 45.58 He was in first place until the final 100m. The winning time was 45.05. He definitely is in 44-point shape. Matthew Boling also has...

    2023 World Outdoor Season

I saw the race live. You cant see it in the video but he lightly strained his hamstring. He was grabbing it after the race. If that hadnt happened he probably runs a least a tenth faster and runs a PR. There is no reason for him not to run at Nationals. He should be able to PR again.

    Matthew Boling 9.98, 19.92, 45.17 and 8.25 LJ

He doesnt need to be making any decisions about his future until this season is completely in the books, especially since he needs his coach for at least the remainder of this season. Clearly, some things are not clicking right now. But as you mentioned he did run a 19.92 last year and much...

    Matthew Boling 9.98, 19.92, 45.17 and 8.25 LJ

Admittedly this past weekend for Boling did not go quite as I had expected. However, its also not necessarily all that bad - none of us can know for sure as none of us are in his training circle. He doe not appear to be injured, and as Freedom1 said here the other day, there is no way possible...

    Matthew Boling 9.98, 19.92, 45.17 and 8.25 LJ

I wouldnt worry about this weekend. I dont think Boling and his coaches are really targeting it. Pretty sure their focus this year is solely on NCAAs, and then on Nationals the following month. The times this weekend probably wont be great, but they will advance him. Bold Predictions...

    Matthew Boling 9.98, 19.92, 45.17 and 8.25 LJ

Yeah, Boling's times were not good, but its relative to what I think they are doing - training through their meets. Again this is what they did in indoors. Running 20.12 in the final was not just a lucky fluke. Also, note that all of the Georgia sprinters performed badly: 1. Godwin who won...

    Matthew Boling 9.98, 19.92, 45.17 and 8.25 LJ

I agree the coaching has been a bit perplexing, and at best seems like a big gamble. But once again I think its a little early to come out with the pitchforks. I dont think there's any way in hell that 1) a coach would tell an athlete to not go all out in their races and 2) that the athlete...

    Matthew Boling 9.98, 19.92, 45.17 and 8.25 LJ

I would agree - he is not in "top sprinting" shape. He's probably in phenomenal condition right now and my guess is he is not doing any speed work with exception of the meets themselves. it is a bit risky as you are playing with the confidences of very young people and I'm a bit concerned...

    Matthew Boling 9.98, 19.92, 45.17 and 8.25 LJ

That's what Dwight Stones said, but I imagine we can all agree that Dwight is about the worst track and field commentator out there. He also thought Godwin was Boling during the race and he thought Godwin ran a 46.5. That means when Boling hit the 800m line the time would have been 1:31.10 but...

    2023 Indoor Season

Cool - thanks for the clarification. I would definitely agree that it would be a shame if he stopped racing the 100m. Everyone here wants to see him run the 100, and certainly, at the 100 he will have the greatest chance to be a stereotype myth-buster. I want to see him run some 60s as...

    2023 Indoor Season

How can you say you dont like the way he has been trained this season? I think that's premature and unfair. They cut the long jump which everyone wanted to see, they cut the number of races he ran, and they didnt have him running events all over the map. He stuck with just the 200m and the...
