Favre coming back?

Well stated. This is about the only positive aspect of the entire Favre situation. Another positive thing would be Favre replacing a black starting QB on some terrible team and doing well.

As I've said many times before, I don't think there is much difference between Favre and the black prima-donnas we all despise. This situation is just another step closer to proving my point. Obviously, he's an amazing player, and a top 3 QB all-time. As a player, he has my unyielding respect, as a person...not as much.

Top 3? I can name 5 I'd take over him...Manning, Brady, Marino, Montana, and Unitas...that's without even thinking hard. Probably a few others I'd like just as well as Favre, such as Young, Tarkenton, and some others.

I'd say he's a top 5 QB all time. I don't think top 3 though. I think the Packers should let Favre play one more year as the starter if he promises to hang up his cleats after this season. The Packers owe it to him for all his hard work and achievements he's accomplished for them!

I agree and that's exactly what I think will eventually happen.

I think he wants to play somewhere else, start over with a clean slate. He's probably bored after 30 whatever seasons playing in Siberia. Let him go to another team and see what he can do in another system. The guy deserves the option of starting a second career somewhere else. Lots of guys his age want to make a change, is he supposed to play for the Pack until he croaks?

He certainly should not be a backup with the Packers like they are saying at the moment. He's earned the right to play and start with the Packers or get a chance to start somewhere else outside of the Packers division, of course.

Great article Bart, I have said those things for years and I have been a Packer Backer since 1972 and wouldn't dream of not being one. Frankly the drama act is getting old and I'm sure his cracker posse does not help the situation since he is probably the sole breadwinner for dozens of people.

I don't agree with the critics here who think Favre is somehow anti-white or pro-Caste, but I have no sympathy for his current predicament. You don't retire as emotionally and convincingly as he did and then afew months later as training camp is about tobeginsay "I didn't mean it." The Packers have been nurturing a first round QB in Aaron Rodgers for three years now and it's time to go with him. Plus, Brian Brohm is going to be an outstanding NFL quarterback, maybe an all-time great.


It would be nice to see Favre starting and playing well for another team, but I think the Packers management is in the right on this one. Brett acted impulsively instead of thinking out the implications of his actions.

I wonder if the Jets will make a minor trade for him and give up next to nothing to take him off the Packers hands and then trade him to the division rival Vikings for a high draft pick/players. I just have a feeling that this will all end in a weird way and in a way that will not make Green Bay happy unless somehow he stays with the Pack. Rodgers could always get injured early in the preseason and if Favre is gone by then, the Packers fans will be enraged. I am a big Favre fan but all this drama is very hard to defend. Athletes have been known to change their mind before though, it happens all the time. Floyd Mayweather Jr. is not really retired, he's just on vacation for a year or so spending his millions on bling,hoes and probably making his first rap album.

We all knew Favre would be back especially after having a great year. He has been downing himself as being too old for it seems like almost the last eight years. I think he thrives on all the excitement of it all.

I like to contrast the comparison of two opposite ends of the spectrum in a basketball player, John Stockton, who the media stamped the label of "on the way out" when he was just past thirty compared to Farve who put the label on himself shortly after age 30. In Stockton's case he proved all the media "experts" decidedly wrong and now it appears Favre is proving himself wrong in underestimating his body's resilience and his continued competitive desire. This soap opera is becoming truly surrealistic. After the jock-sniffers in the media were lambasting the Packers for basically offering Favre a $20 million bribe to stay retired, it appears now that Favre is actually considering accepting the offer. This news comes only a few hours after reports about him definitely wanting to play, with serious talks going on with the Jets and the Packers' apparently now considering a trade to division rivals like the Vikings or Bears.

I have made it clear how I feel about Favre, but this is truly remarkable behavior. What kind of athlete has ever appeared so indecisive, changing his mind virtually several times a day, about something so basic as whether he wants to play a game or not? Is Favre bipolar? Can anything outside of a true mental illness explain this kind of super vacillating back and forth? When my children were still in preschool, they were better at making simple decisions than Favre apparently is.

It is becoming clear that no team wants Favre. Why would the Bears, for instance, come out publicly and say they aren't interested (as offensive coordinator Ron Turner did)? They certainly could use a player of his caliber to significantly upgrade their weak QB corps. I think the only answer is that Favre's truly wacky behavior has turned off virtually everyone in the NFL. At this point, who would trust that he'd even show up to play from week to week?

If Favre now accepts this lucrative "bribe" from the Packers, I think his name will be forever tarnished. After the incredibly big news story his "unretirement" from the NFL was, for Favre to suddenly decide to retire again after being given that kind of money is about as classless and distasteful as it gets.

I don't even think T.O.'s supposed suicide attempt was as strange as this story.

To make this story even stranger, it has been reported that Favre supposedly told the Packers that he would report to training camp today (Aug 1st). However, after Favre paid for a chartered flight to pick him up in Mississippi...he never boarded the airplane.

I'm not sure if even the most flashy, cocky, arrogant black "superstar" afflete could get away with this prima-donna horsesh*t.

I also dont think there are many takers around the league. Partly because of the media circus that will follow his every move during the season...but also because of his insanely selfish behavior the past couple months. I think this may be the reason he's taking the 20 million to stay retired.

His age is also a factor. He could fall apart really quickly. I think he wants to comeback but he doesn't want to endure the pain and exercise of another hard season. Football is a brutal sport that is hard on you mentally and physically and at 39 he is wavering about his mental commitment to the game. As for him being a primadonna he is nothing compared to TO or "Ochocinqo".

Bret certainly has never been a cancer in the lockeroom like TO and Ochocinco. I bet the packers wr corp would privately admit to wanting Bret to come back. Aaron Rodgers looks very promising but he is still largely a unknown quantity. Bret looked still in his prime last year. Just real tired of all the ins and outs of this story and Bret is sure giving his critics lots of ammunition. He has got to go somewhere and play now just to get most of his rep back. I am a big fan of his but like I posted earlier,all these twists and turns and change of hearts is hard to defend.

Looks like he's going to show up for camp after all. So does this mean that he rejected the "marketing deal?" If he did reject it, why?

Because he wants to be a starting QB again for the Packers.

Favre does not care if it would be better for the Packers to go with a young and promising QB. Whether you agree with Favre or not, it's all about him.

There are few things in sports more painful to watch than a 40-year old QB trying to play when he doesn't have it anymore. If he playes this year and does poorly, Favre can look forward to being a running joke on the Jay Leno show.

There is little reason to think he will play poorly. He's in good health, played great last year and his team has improved. Look forward to the Favre/Jordy Nelson connection.

Favre is a great football player, and a great WHITE football player. Deserving of our support and admiration.

Nevertheless his I'm-just-kidding about retirement is completely over the top and a huge embarrassment. Today's weasels on ESPN said that Favre is likely to end up in Tampa Bay. Why not? It's a shorter drive to Kiln, Mississippi than is Green Bay.

On a side note: I heard from friends up north, that the "new breed" Packer fans are booing & heckling Aaron Rodgers at the practices.

There's no reason to boo Aaron at all. This is Packer management and Favre's fault, not his. Favre will go from legend status to icon status if he leads the Jets to the playoffs this season. I hope he does. The Jets only won four games last year and alot of those were close ones in the 4th quarter, Favre is the king of the comebacks and this gives the Jets some gravitas and hope when they play the big boys like the Patriots and Colts.

I'd like to see Favre kick butt this season at age 39 and for Rodgers to do very well in his first season as the starter in GB. I root for all white QBs as they have been magnificent in holding off the NFL's desire to have blacks dominate the position. (It helps too that most black quarterbacks are terrible. )
