Vanderjagt returning to CFL with Toronto Argonauts

Kicker Mike Vanderjagt, abruptly cut by the Cowboys during the 2006 campaign after signing a big-money (for an idiot kicker) deal in the offseason, has been unable to find work in the NFL since then. And so he's apparently giving up.

Vanderjagt reportedly will sign with the Toronto Argonauts, returning to the team for which he played through 1997, before jumping to the Indianapolis Colts according to Profootballtalk.com.

Vanderjagt, who kicked West Virginia University, is the most accurate kicker in NFL history. But he also has a history of missing key kicks, including the one he put into the Gatorade bucket against the Steelers to punctuate a stunning 2005 divisional playoff loss.

I'd sign him. When he called out the Colts for not having any heart he was right.

Vanderjagt is a good kicker and has been screwed in my opinion.

Vanderjagt's "crime" was not knowing his place in the NFL. Whites are notsupposed toshow the kind of cocky, extroverted personnas that blacks are rewarded for displaying, especially a lowly kicker. Once he criticized his team, which meant he criticized St. Tony Dungy,Vanderjagt became the permanent enemy of the media and the drunk white fans.

And Peyton Manning, as much as I like him, just perpetuated the dogmatic stigma mentioned here. He openly called out Vanderjagt for being the proverbial "locker room cancer."

The Colts were flat in that playoff game, but still could have won if Vanderjagt made the kick. The bigger issue is he had a high cap number for a kicker with a groin injury who all the sudden began missing a fair number of kicks. No one wants to keep two PKs on the roster.
