I think we are safer in South Africa than in Chicago at the moment. Crime is still high but we have community policing in the suburbs. We stay in the capital city, Pretoria but in the northern suburbs one of the safest suburbs in the city. City center is terrible and we do not go there, ever. The farm attacks are much less than a few years ago but still a concern. It is such a shame because it is one of the most beautiful countries in the world.
No real contenders in the 100m's. The closest is Theodore Young but not a youngster anymore at a 10.30 pb and 20.70pb. Young white athletes play rugby after school and are drawn in by very lucrative contracts. Financial rewards are great whereas track and field athletes in South Africa make no money.
Emile makes his yearly budget in Europe and by coaching but is mostly supported by me.
His trip to Europe now as an example. He paid his own airfare to Europe but received some money from the provincial club to cover his living expenses. He is a fulltime student and studies civil engineering which he pays himself. He still lives with me. He needs to make around $20 000 in Europe to cover his yearly budget.
I spoke to him this morning, he left Amsterdam for Paris and is extremely pumped for tomorrow. He has some great competition and I hope this will bring the sub 10. I include the start list for tomorrow in PDF format.
