There was just not reason not to play Jake. I was really pissed off yesterday, never seeing jake on the field, and seeing the the big bro not having success. He played like crap. bad coaching lost that game for kansas. I'm not so confident about Jake's role next year right now....

Danny Woodhead had a huge night in an amazing game! he had 237 total yards and 4 TDs in a 3-overtime shootout.

Chadron State emerged with a hard-fought victory, 76-73. they advance to play NW Missouri State in the next round of the playoffs.

Delta State got beat by North Alabama, ending their D-II playoff run. Ben Stallings had 9 runs for 57 yards and 3 catches for 22 yards. Chad Schroeder had 5 runs for 14 yards and a TD plus 6 catches for 49 yards. 2008's likely starting QB Garrett DeWitt played a good game and should be a dual threat next season as well. Grand Valley State won their 39th straight game against North Dakota. ND WR Weston Dressler ended his college career with a good performance; 4 runs for 9 yards, 6 catches for 99 yards and a TD, plus 2 PR for 23 and a 10 yard KR. Grand Valley WR/RB Blake Smolen led all rushers in the game with 27 for 139 and a TD plus 2 catches for 34 and 2 KR for 38. RB James Berezik ran 18 times for 116.

This week Grand Valley plays Central Washington. As JC mentioned, Chadron State plays Northwest Missouri State. Also, North Alabama gets a rematch against GSC foe (coal black) Valdosta State. Hopefully UNA will win this one. The other regional championship game pits California against Shepherd. It will be interesting to see what happens, as next week's semifinals will be on ESPN or ESPN2.

Division III-Mount Union RB Nate Kmic had 14 carries for 68 yards and a TD. They host St. John Fisher in the regional final Saturday. St John Fisher is a very white team as well, who's leading rusher has been James Reile. He had 13 for 104 and 2 TDs plus a 15 yard catch and an 18 yard KR last week. Ryan Hanson is the 2nd back, and he ran 16 times for 83 yards and had a 2 yard catch last week.

Another white D-III team, Wisconsin-Whitewater, hosts Wabash. UWW RB Justin Beaver, a Gagliardi Award finalist, ran 29 times for 241 yards and 3 TDs in last week's win. Backup RB Derek Underwood had 4 carries for 30 yards. Although they like to run most of the time, WR Neil Mrkvicka is another white star to watch for.

The other D-III regional finals feature Mary Hardin-Baylor at Wesley, and Bethel at Central.

Central is almost completely white as a team, and all their RBs are white. Main RB Vance Schuring ran 20 times for 84 and had 5 catches for 37 last week. Backup RB David Zachary had 4 runs for 28. Top WR Cody Huisman had 7 catches for 167 and 3 TDs. Bethel is also a very white team. Their QB, Ben Wetzell, led them in rushing last week with 15 for 81 and a TD. RB Dusty Wahl had 12 for 79 and 2 TDs, while RB Logan Flannery had 19 for 64. White WRs Aaron Bernstetter and Joel Quick get almost all of the few passes this run oriented team throws. Brock Bolen is a featured runner for Louisville tonight and is having a good game, so far 7 carries for 83 yards

EDIT: 10 carries for 91 and 2 TDs!

Brock ended up with 13 carries for 117 and 2 TDs! Louisville won and I'm happy! He practically matched Rice on less than half the carries!

I sent him a message through myspace on his performance.

On ESPN highlights they did not show a single play by Bolen
smiley7.gif
They showed Powell's TD though! It's like his team leading rushing had nothing to due with the win

yeah, and to avoid controversy they have given a player of the game award to Brian Brohm, who didn't have his best game instead of a runningback with over 115 yards, 2 TDs and 9 ypc...

Anyone notice that the top4 Rushing teams yardage wise started a white FB or TB? Trend or fluke?

Navy1, Air Force 2, Arkansas3, WVa. 4. Also, LSU was 12 and Nevada 15th.

it's run first offenses. Navy has something like 50 yards receiving in any given game.

a couple observations of the caste system in action regarding Brock Bolen, in addition to the stated lack of any Bolen highlights on ESPN:

when the game was in the 4th quarter, the announcers repeatedly understated Bolen's athletic ability by completely ignoring his big plays. instead, each time he got a carry and burst for another 11-15 yard gain, they would simply say, "Louisville going with the safe play, handing off to Bolen who holds on to the ball."

i mean, what the crap?!?

then, after Bolen's big game, the print media of course followed ESPN's lead, and completely ignored the white running back's performance. want proof? here it is:
The Cardinals didn't so much ride Brohm's arm to victory as they did the legs of Bilal Powell and Brock Bolen.

If anything was learned last night, it's that this is a different team when it runs the ball -- and that Powell can really run it. (emphasis added by me)

what's that? Powell can run it?!?!
smiley5.gif
compare the stats of the two backs.

Powell: 13 carries, 91 yards, 1 touchdown.
Bolen: 13 carries, 117 yards, 2 touchdowns!

yeah, it's obvious who had the better game, and it ain't Powell.

also, i caught the second half of the Fresno State-New Mexico State game on friday night, and saw an impressive couple of runs from NMSU 'fullback' Brandon Perez.
brandonperez.jpg

Pereze ended the game with only 5 carries for a team-high 37 yards, but the run that really caught my eye was when he literally RAN OVER Fresno State's reported biggest hitter.
smiley32.gif
it even got the caste-speak annouoncers excited.

this is what the black db saw right before he got plastered...

i haven't even seen Matt Sieverson's name before! what a game. but apparently, he's not a real tailback... ESPN lists him as a wide receiver.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. ESPN has him listed as a WR. Was he lined up at TB this game?

he was indeed a tailback.

despite being a phenomenal tailback in high school, he began his career at Oregon State as a safety, before moving to wide receiver for this season. he's only been given his chance to run the ball here at the end of the year.

he hadn't been used much a wide receiver, either, though. he only had 7 catches before playing in the Civil War.

JC, you are wrong man.

He has been running some all season, not much but some. I told you about him at the beginning of the season. Your memory is getting as bad as mine.

i meant he's not been getting lots of carries until the end of the season! jeez! everybody's a critic!
smiley4.gif
smiley36.gif

to be completely thorough and technically correct, Matt didn't get double digit carries until October 27 against Stanford, when he toted the rock 16 times. since then, he's carried at least 10 times in each game.

tonight's game against Oregon had him set a career high in carries, yards, and his first TD of the season.

is that good enough for you?!? turd!

San Diego State's athletic quarterback Kevin O'Connell ran for 2 touchdowns (and threw for another one) against BYU in a losing effort tonight. coaches and scouts rave about his athleticism. is he the next Matt Jones?

Wow, a white runningback with a significant amount of carries in a PAC-10 game, the Civil War no less. Way to go Sieverson.

DraftDaddy echoes our thoughts again...
Oregon State tailback Matt Sieverson rushed for 142 yards against Oregon.

DD.comment:</font> The 6' 2", 220 pound Sieverson was very impressive yesterday, leading one to wonder why a kid this talented was glued to the bench for four years? Here's some potential good news for Beavers' fans: Oregon State's official website claims Sieverson "has a redshirt year available".

great job by DraftDaddy for asking what should be an obvious question, yet one that no mainstream sports/media personality has asked.

the answer is obvious, of course. he's too white to be a "real" tailback.
smiley7.gif
it seems he only got his chance when every other tailback was hurt.

here's a link to a short news story on Matt. a very odd couple of sentences in the article caught my eye...
Sieverson, a former walk-on, was recruited as an athlete.

He made the move from safety to receiver in the offseason, then returned to his natural position of tailback in fall camp.

why has this senior spent nearly 4 years forced to play an unnatural position, and as DD said, buried on the bench?
