Bryant Salmon-Jackson Prep RB/DB

In 4 games the Jackson Prep RB has a 96 yard KR for a TD, a TD reception, and 7 rushing TDs. Bryant is thought to be the best RB in the MPSA. He is a 5-9, 160 pound Senior. Whats more is that Prep has played and beaten 2 public schools this season, following the example of many Louisiana private high schools. Prep, a AAA power in the MPSA, beat 3A MHSAA Newton County 24-0, thanks in large part to a great passing game. Last night they beat 4A Pearl 50-0. It is my hope that Bryant will keep running and end up with a nice scholarship offer.

He'll need to add weight. A 5'9 height doesn't seem to hold black tailbacks back, but 160lbs is very thin for any color. Thanks for the info though and keep us posted, he sounds like an elite talent.Edited by: ToughJ.Riggins

Bryant had another big day as he scored on runs of 1, 9, and 91 yards in a 38-14 win over Lamar School. He had a total of 17 carries for 216 yards.Edited by: Colonel_Reb

Not for a high school kid it's not. We don't want the kid to turn into a big, fat, slow Jerome "Bubble-Butt" Bettis type, now do we?

Give it time. He'll gain the right amount of weight, the closer he gets to playing college ball.

Still though, he's already a H.S senior so that is thin. Now if he were black he'd probably have some Div. 1 offers already under the condition that he'll hit the weight room. At 5'9 he would have to get up to at least 175 lbs to be able to handle the hits of the college game IMO. Muscle works as extra padding as well as adding strength. I'm not always one to buy the stereotype of adding weight but 160lbs is a bit light for my liking. If you asked most scouts they'd want a RB his size to make the 190-200 lb. range for college. Hopefully he can add a little weight w/o losing any speed.

Bryant scored last night on a 61 yard punt return, a 5 yard run, and an 11 yard pass! He had 6 carries for 29 yards and a TD, plus the 11 yard TD catch.Edited by: Colonel_Reb

Bryant scored on catches of 30 and 19 yards last night in another big win. He had 4 runs for 46 plus 6 catches for 93 yards and the 2 TDs.Edited by: Colonel_Reb

Bryant had 7 carries for 148 yards and 3 TDs tonight plus a 32 yard TD catch!

That brings Bryant's 8 game totals to 77 carries for 698 yards and 14 TDs. His pass catching ability is also a big reason some schools should be going after this kid. That is almost 9.1 yards a carry against really good competition. Bryant has also caught 13 passes for 203 yards and 5 TDs.

Of course, there is an awesome white FB on his team who also can run with it, Graham Bowden. He has run for 288 yards on 40 carries and scored 2 TDs. Graham caught 13 passes for 150 yards and a TD.

I don't know why more of these kids aren't putting themselves on Youtube. They could even post it as "I'm a white RB; College let me play" or something. You've got to wonder if these kids realize they're getting screwed. I read an article recently where a white RB said something like "yeah I run a 4.56 and get no interest; I guess colleges want a 4.4 guy." This is completely inaccurate. Your average starting Div. 1 RB runs about a 4.6 time. In the NFL it's not much faster, I'd say low 4.5s.

HB Bryant Salmon had TD runs of 3, 10, and 50 yards in another big win last Friday. FB Graham Bowden had TD runs of 1 and 10 yards.

Bryant scored both of Jackson Prep's TDs tonight in a 14-6 win over Pillow in Greenwood. Bryant had a 3 yard TD run and a 34 yard TD catch.

Colonel, what's this Bryant kid's 40 time?

I know I overdo it w/ the 40 time talk on this forum, but I still think it is our best argument. It seems, I see at least one Scout.com black "top 10 RB recruit" every year that runs in the 4.6s. But then they have the nerve to call whites that run 4.5s with great short shuttle times too "slow" and "tight hipped" for Division 1A."

Obviously, the first thing recruiters should always look for in a RB is his on field production "can he play?" Then, athletic measurables and a player's size can help determine the upside of a player at the next level. Bryant Salmon has put up "amazing" numbers against "solid" H.S competition. But at 5'9 160 lbs, if I was an unbiased scout, the "minimum" measurables I would think he would need for "any" Div. 1A scholarship at RB would be a 4.7 40 yard dash and a 4.5 short shuttle. Bryant can add a little weight so his size shouldn't be held against him if he has decent measurables.

Tough, Bryant is being listed at 165 now and is reported as running 4.40 this past summer. Bryant also plays CB for Prep. Graham Bowden the FB, is 5-10 185 and runs a 4.41. I recently found out that Bryant is the grandson of Farley "Fish" Salmon, a native Deltan who starred at QB for Ole Miss in the early part of the Johnny Vaught era.

Wow that's plenty fast enough. This kid deserves a shot with the gaudy numbers he is putting up in the MPSA. If this kid were black he'd be at least a 3 star Rivals recruit! But I didn't even see his name listed on Scout or Rivals...

I guess they're not looking for white RBs from Private Schools, but that is quite redundant as we already knew that!

The only place I can find him listed is on the Jackson, Miss. Clarion-Ledger's Top 125 Seniors list. You are correct. He isn't listed by any of the recruiting services.

Bryant had TD runs of 12 and 3 yards from scrimmage tonight, as well as a 60 yard INT return for a TD and a 79 yard PR for a TD! Way to go Bryant!

He had 12 runs for 83 and 2 TDs total, plus a 20 yard catch. Graham Bowden had 4 runs for 22 yards. Next week, Prep hosts Pillow Academy, who they narrowly defeated last week, in the first round of the MPSA AAA playoffs.

In the first round of the MPSA playoffs, RB Bryant Salmon ran just 15 times for 272 yards and 4 TDs, plus had a 26 yard catch!

FB Graham Bowden ran 5 times for 5 yards and a score.

They beat Pillow 38-0.

Bryant had well over 1,000 yards rushing this year playing for the team with the toughest schedule in the MPSA. He should get some interest at least from a Mississippi JuCo or Delta State, but we'll have to wait and see if that happens. Prep plays at Missisippi College against Jackson Academy next Friday for the AAA Division 1 championship.

Been following these guys (Jackson Prep) in the Ledger and they are legit. Wondered if this kid might get a shot with USM. I think Damion Fletcher is a bit on the small side and USM has always seemed to lean toward smaller running backs.

If Southern recruits and actually plays Bryant, that would be great! USM had a white back that gained a lot of yards in 2005. I won't hold my breath waiting for it happen though, as Bower is no friend of white skill players.

Another article about Salmon. Highlights are he's 5'9" 160 and ran a 4.35 in the spring. Is the grandson of a former Ole Miss star and is dominating Mississippi's toughest private school division and he's virtually unrecruited.

Vanderbilt is actively recruiting him. Bryant Salmon has one visit scheduled, to Harvard in December.

"I understand why the big schools would be worried about my size," Bryant says, when asked about it. "I'm small for a Division I running back, but I think I could help somewhere, maybe slotback or something like that."

Or kick returner, or cornerback, or wide receiver, or third-down back. ...

Don't think Salmon thrives only because he plays against private schools competition. He was outstanding in Prep's two victories over Class 3A Newton County (10-1) and Class 4A Pearl (3-7). In fact, he took the opening kickoff back 97 yards against Pearl.

Says Black: "He can play anywhere."
